Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I go for my nutrition class on May 3, pre-op with Dr. Provost and pre-register at the hospital on May 5 and surgery on May 7. I am on the pre-op liquid diet now, drinking 3-4 Adkins shakes everyday. It is so hard cooking for the family and not having a bite of food. I have not had any full meals but have grabbed a few slices of shaved deli meat or a bite or two of baked chicken breast at least once a day. I did buy some low sodium, fat free chicken broth and sugar free Jello last night to have in the evening, maybe that will help curb my craving to eat something else. :scared2: If anyone else has any other ideas that work for them please share.

I am a May-Bander too! My surgery is scheduled for May 6th. Started my pre-op diet on April 23rd--two Protein Shakes (BariatricAdvantage) and 1 serving of Soup (any kind except for creamy soups) each day. While I have not been hungry--I just crave things that I know I can't have like sweets or something crunchy and fried..lol!!! Every now and then I will eat a few ounces of baked chicken breasts. I also take a Calcium supplement, a chewable Vitamin and drink plenty of Water.

I am excited about being banded!!!! I can't wait until my new beginnings!! I wish everyone wellness and success on this journey!!!:scared2:

I am so glad I found this group - and I need to get on it and read more often!!

Mscafe32 - I'm not required to do any pre-op diet, either. I asked my doctor why (just like my 3 yr old!) and he said - one - most people can't truly follow them, and two - studies have been done that shows that they are not very effective. :scared2: I'm so so very glad I don't have to do it! I've been..... eating, and eating, and eating. Very bad, I know. But it's like I just can't stop with the Last Supper mentality. It's the candy that gets me. I went to a baby shower on Sunday and they sent everyone home with a huge candy bag. I'm making my through it, none too slowly. So, with that being said, it's the psychological/mental attitude that is going to be my single most biggest challenge. I am an overeater - always have been. Usually, I eat very healthfully for 95% of the day.... but the sweets will get me everytime. But I suppose it's all about to change!!

Oh - I had my pre-op today. Met the surgeon for the first time - really liked him. Then went to anesthesiology to go thru all my stuff. They said b/c of the sleep apnea, that I should come prepared to stay the night, in case I have to. But if it all goes smoothly, I should check in at 6am, surgery around 8:30am, and checked out and sent home by noon. They also said I could call my primary care doc and get a script for anti-anxiety meds for the morning of the surgery - to help with my panic/anxiety over the IV needle!!

Hi all :scared2: I guess I'm a May 2010 Bandster  I was supposed to be banded on April 22, but as it turned out, they couldn't do both my gallbladder and lapband at the same time...so they did the gallbladder, sewed me up and sent me home with an apointment it just over two weeks to come back  May 10

My husband is going to be banded on May 6  He started his liquid diet on the 22nd and is showing more will power than I ever thought he had! I don't have to do a liquid diet, since I don't have a fatty liver, so these past few days of me having to eat and him not being able to have been hard on me (I feel bad to eat around him even though he says he doesn't mind).

I'm a bit worried that it'll be harder for me to recover from the band because I'll still be sore from the gallbladder, but I feel like I've come too far and put too much into it to turn back.

So today was day 9 of my liquids and I'm starving! I have to admit I cheated with a few saltine crackers (it felt good to have something solid). I have 9 mores days till my surgery and I hope today wasn't a huge screw-up to the overall progress.

Tracey,

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't have a pre-op diet. Don't get me wrong, cause I'm not complaining. I certainly am glad that I don't have to deal with that on top of everything else. I was just a little concerned that everyone was required to do one and I wasn't. Good luck with your surgery next week!

Well, my pre-registration is done, Im down 26lbs now pre-op and on day 10 of my liquid diet. For those that dont have the pre-op diets, the only thing I can think why not is because your insurance. Most insurance will only allow one bariatric procedure at a time. Meaning if they go in and the liver is too fatty and in the way, they cant safely install the band. So there goes your one attempt. IF your insurance doesnt require it, most likely they have no limitation on surgical attempts. The whole point of the pre-op is to shrink and firm up the liver. The instruments used when moving the liver out of the way, can puncture it causing complications. I guess thats pretty much why I was so scared to not cheat. My insurance only allows one attempt at it.

But on the bright side! May 5th is coming REALLLLLY fast! I cant wait!

Hello May bandsters, I am hoping I am one of you! I just received word yesterday from my surgeon that they received the yes from my insurance so I immediatly called for my Pre-op specialist visits. I was very lucky to get them all in one day, May 13. AND my surgeon's receptionist said my pre-op diet will only be 1 week, so I am thinking it will be the last week of school (I am a resource teacher) and since that week is a no brain work week, it would be PERFECT!

Which Isopure are you using? I am unsing the ready to drink because they taste good. They come in really good flavors like passion fruit and fruit punch. I want to get the powders but I'm afraid it won't taste as good. I was wondering if you use the isopure chocolate or vanilla powder. I think I'm definately going to pick up the unflavored one to add to broths post op.

I am using the zero carb already made ones. They are clear and come in a 20 ounce glass bottle.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
