Hi Everyone!! I am scheduled to have surgery on April 14th, and I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet. I have already lost 6 pounds, the problem is, I still feel like crap. I have had a headache for the last three days, it stays with me at all times, while I sleep, while I am awake, ALL THE TIME!! It got so bad that I almost went to the ER on day 1, but I managed to keep it at bay with a couple of Percocets. Also, I feel really week. Like walking to the bathroom makes me tired. Is this normal and it will get better, or do I have to deal with this for the next couple of weeks? Any input would be appreciated.

Yes - completely normal! The first few days of the pre-op diet...I think it's like your body is detoxing. The good news is...it WILL go away and while you'll still be hungry, you will feel "healthier".

Hang in there - this is one of the hardest parts of the surgery!

My doctor recommended 60 grams of Protein. I think that is helping me to not be weak. Also, I discovered I can have split pea Soup - that has really helped. Just broth and Jello was not working for me. I too had the headaches:cursing:....from lack of food and also going off caffeine. I am on Day #8 of my liquid diet and tonight I have a headache again.....our bodies must be in shock after feeding it for some many years!!!

I am just thinking I want the surgery to well, and shrink that liver! Also, it will make it easier to adjust to eating less....when we get to eat we will feel like it is a ton!

Good Luck!:bored:

I am now wondering why I was stupid enough to volunteer to make Easter dinner for my husbands whole extended family, knowing I would be on my pre-op diet. And I don't want all of them to know, so how do I keep this a secret? Why do I tell them I am not eating?

Hey we are in the same boat. I am on day 4 of my preop diet and I will be banded on the 14th also. I still have a few headaches and my weakness is going away. It will get better, try naps, walking, and Water. We can do this! Only 10 more days!! Feel free to message me anytime!

Yes it is normal. The headaches can be from going off sugar and carbs and detoxing other things out. It is an intense headache but if you get enough Protein and drink all your Water, you will feel better by day 4. You will also start to lose your appeitite and that gets better each day. By a week, you will start to feel energetic and healthier, as well as losing weight!

Hang in there - it is worth it.

I too have started my liquid diet 3 days ago. I am having a hard time! My husband is out of town a lot during the week which means I have to make sure the kids get feed. If my husband is home he cooks and I go down stairs and ride the bike so I don't smell the food. I have had carrots and a few crackers. I to wonder what to due when we go out to dinner at someone's house for dinner. I am waiting for them to let me know my surgery date which should be by the end of April. I have hope this get's easier!!

While it did get easier, I have to say I stayed very tired and weak throughout pre-op. My doc has a VERY strict pre-op and I was averaging 600-700 calories a day....I quit feeling like I was starving about day 5 and the headaches got better about day 4 but the fatigue carried through until I was post-op and could consume more....don't over do it!

Oh and yeah, it is so totally worth it!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
