I need help with suggestions and recipes for Protein Shakes that don't taste horrible and do not have aspartame. I am supposed to have between 70-100 grams of Protein a day and no more than 800-1000 calories per day. I tried the doctor's shakes and they are nasty!! I went to GNC and they suggesed the Lean shake which has 9g protein and all the nutrients and mix in a scoop of the wheybolic60 which has 20g protein per scoop. I haven't tried it yet.

Angie, keep us posted on what you discover. I haven't done a lot of research yet on the Protein powders but I would like to find a place online where one could order a sampling of several different kinds - say 1 or 2 choc and vanilla of like a half dozen different brands in single serve packets. I like "milk" chocolate and a "chocolate malt" flavors best.

I just ordered a "sample pack" from bariatriceating.com though I haven't received it.

One good option is to by the unjury unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything you like and are allowed to have-- Soup (if it's not *too* hot), milk, juice, ... I've even added it to creamed Soup. It truly does not add ANY flavor and it doesn't seem to thicken, either. It's good whey isolate-- which is the best. 20g of Protein per scoop, and 80 calories. No other ingredients besides the whey isolate.< /p>

I also like the Myoplex Lite (by EAS)-- they are, I think, 15 g protein per, and at first tasted a little medicinal to me, but now I don't even notice it. They are low fat... I don't see aspartame on the label, but clearly you should check before you buy.

Sometimes you can find samples of stuff at GNC... I *believe* they also have a return policy if you don't like it you can return it. But obviously check with them... that might have been only a local thing.

I have the BSN "Dessert" Protein shakes which can be purchased at GNC. My favorite shake is from "Beach Body" Meal Replacement shake in chocolate but I've only and ordered that online. It's delicious! Neither contain aspartame. BeachBody has fructose though. I also have the unjury powder which I have yet to try....hopefully it's better than that chicken flavored Soup.< /p>

Tip: I usually make mine with ice, and occasionally add soy milk or choc soy milk instead of milk, and PB2 (lowfat Peanut Butter powder) and shake it up some. Delicious! Taste like a milk shake....

I am a HUGE fan of the Inspire Proteins from bariatriceating.com.

I have tried forty bazillion Proteins in the past--and these are really good. I especially like the dutch chocolate cake flavor. The Pom Razz Sangria (out of stock still, I think) is great mixed with Crystal Light lemonade, too.

Thanks, these are all great suggestions. I recently tried the GNC lean shake and added a scoop of wheybolic. Both chocolate. I mixed it with Water and ice and a 1/2 banana and it was very good. The lean shake only has 9g Protein but the wheybolic has 20g per scoop. I am definitely going to try an unflavored to add to Soup so I can have a hot "meal" of sorts.

I love Pure Protein Shakes. The Cookies and cream one. I get them at Target they are pre-mixed (which is easy for me to grab and go in the morning before work) and they are 4 cans for I think $6.99. I just looked at the label and there is 110 calories, 1 gram of fat, 1 gram of sugar, 21 grams of Protein and no aspartame.

I am a fan of Isopure Protein Powder and Isopure bottled beverages from GNC. Each scoop of powder has 25g Protein and each 20oz bottle has 40g protein. So far, my liquid diet schedule has been as follows: powder in my morning coffee (to make either a mocha or latte), powder in milk for a snack, serving of sugarfree Jello pudding (with powder added to the mix) for lunch, powder in milk for another snack, and a cup or 2 of broth for dinner (and sometimes either sugarfree jello or a popsicle if I feel like dessert)... approx. 600 calories, 120g protein, and 25g carbs...

Has anyone used the Atkin Advantage? I got the Dark chocolate Royale today because I am travelling this week and next which are my last two weeks so I needed something easily accessible so I didn't want to grab something I'm not suppose to ea.

The doctor said I have to have at minimum 60 g of Protein a day from shakes alone. These have 15.

The Protein Powder I got from the doctor was called Chike, it's not the best tasting but I am wondering if the Atkins are okay instead. They only have 2 g carbs and 1 g sugar.

It's been quite some time ago but I have tried them. I bought them to use as a Meal Replacement like Slim Fast except since I am diabetic, there is less sugar. As I recall, I wasn't crazy about them but then I'm not a dark chocolate fan - prefer milk chocolate or chocolate malt - like chocolate and vanilla mixed together. Anyway, colder is always better. I thought they were a little on the thin/runny side. Let me know how you make out as I might be convinced to try them again.

My doctor has approved Muscle Milk Light for me. It is the same profile as Optifast, except less carbs and more Protein. I have tried it and it tastes very good. I think it sells at costco and I am going down tomorrow. It also has 20% of all Vitamins needed per serving, and each serving I believe is 160 calories.

The cytosport website shows something different though and I have posted a thread here to try and confirm if the above label is indeed correct......

I haven't found any samples yet. smoothie King also has Protein powder you can buy. In Louisville Ky, it is the protein powder that one of the local hospitals refers its patients to use.

I really like the lean shake from GNC and I add a scoop of wheybolic60 protein. I end up with 29g of protein per shake but is a little high on the calorie side so I am looking for other alternatives. The shake is 180 cal but the one scoop of added protein is an additional 80 cal. I drop a 1/2 a banana in mine with ice and Water and it comes out really thick like a shake.

ajd7, I've been combing the cytosport websites and comparing the products. The regular powder comes in a very impressive array of flavors - 2 scoops in 10-12 oz of Water is about 300 cal and 32 grams of Protein. The muscle milk light liquid chocolate and vanilla comes in 14 oz bottles at 160 cals each with 20g protein. They also have a Mocha Latte light flavor that comes in an 8.25 oz serving that is 100 cals and 15g protein. Muscle Milk Light Powder mix is 195 cal for 2 scoops (I'm assuming 10-12 oz of Water again) and 25g protein, 2g sugar, 11g carbs. Hope this helps.

Let me know what you ended up purchasing and how you like or rate the product. :tongue2:

Check out the Muscle Milk Light powders. They have 195 calories for 2 scoops and 25g protein, 11g carbs, 2g sugars. Not sure if they come in as many flavors as the regular MM powders but at 25g protein with a half banana the calories would be about 250 so that would be a saving of about 50 per shake. Granted, the protein is a little less per shake but 4 per day would be about a 1000 cal and 100g of protein. You could cut the banana out of a couple of them to save about a 100 cal. There are also premixed liquids in bottles of 14 oz servings for 160 cal and 20g protein and an 8.25 bottle for 100 cal and 15 gr protein.

Try Designer whey, Atkins and Jillian Michaels. I liked Jillian Michaels the least, but if you add a packet of Nutrasweet it cancels out the horrid stevia taste.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
