Anyone else have Medifast for Pre-Op?

Recommended Posts

I'm on the Medi-Fast diet for my pre-op and I'm adjusting to it. I didn't know if anyone else was doing this portion for their pre-op. It's amazing how all of our doctors have different pre-op diets. I was also wondering, if you are doing the Medi-Fast, if you have any good recipes for the pancake mix. I got a box of that and after gagging while trying to eat the first pancake, I decided that I have GOT to do something with those things.

Their hot chocolate (Amaretto) is really good. So, I give that a 2 thumbs up. The chicken Pasta Soup isn't bad, either.

Anyone else?

I was told I could have I can't believe it is not butter and sugar free Syrup on the pancakes.. not so bad.

I really liked the vanilla shakes with Jello added in (sugarfree of course). I survived you can too.

Did you add Jello sf pudding or just the Gelatin? I think the thing that I hate is that I can taste all of the artificial sweetener in everything and I hate sweetener. The good side is that I don't crave sweets AT ALL. I'm actually grossed out by them, now. Three days of this pre-op diet totally did that in. LOL!

I was on Medifast for a month preop, and did really well, weight-wise. Mostly, I stuck with the Soups, the hot cocoa, the scrambled eggs (surprisingly good- try them with a little parmesan cheese and chives mixed in!!), the pretzels, the little puffy things, and the bars. I'm now using some of those things again postop to keep my Protein intake high.

Hang in there- they have enough choices available so that you don't have to eat what you don't like.

Good luck!

I'm on a two-week Medifast cycle prior to my surgery. I was given a box by my surgeon, which doesn't have most of the stuff you guys are talking about.

I have oatmeal, pudding, Soup, a couple different kind of bars, shakes, and that's it. (Of course I use these terms loosely.)

I once lost a bunch of weight on Nutrisystem, but gained it all back because I got sick of the food. This stuff makes Nutrisystem seem positively gourmet. I'll live, it's just two weeks.

My doc didn't give me much in the way of what to do with the food itself, but gave me a bunch of receipies, for the lean and green meal. I'm going to try one tonight - Mesquite chicken.

Hey, Bull,

I have to admit, I got all the exotic stuff by ordering my own assortment off the Medifast website, rather than to do the preset box of stuff.

I totally agree with you about the Nutrisystem...I had done that years ago, and some of the things were just nasty...I particularly remember tuna fish salad in a can that even my cat wouldn't eat, lol!

i added about 1 tsp of the Gelatin. I had picked out my 14 boxes at the dr office before I tried them. Some things I could not stand and still have all but the one I tried. I ended up losing 17 lbs before surgery. So i guess it makes it worth it. I slipped a few times like I had a pickle because I needed something to crunch. It is possible to make it through just hang in there.

I did medifast for my pre-op. I already had a good supply from a previous diet attempt.

I have to say I don't care for the stuff. It is much too bland. But it did the trick. I lost 8 pounds and the surgeon said my liver was very small, healthy, and pliable. I couldn't ask for more than that!

I had to just chug down the shakes. I did like that it had a 'lean and green' meal, though. At least I got to chew every day.

I am getting banded in April and I have been reading alot about the pre op shake diets everyone is doing. My nutritionist has me doing a protien shake at Breakfast and one at lunch as long as they are not over 225 cal (I have left over medifast shakes at 90 cals each) all the salad I can eat, green only veggies on it with salad spritzer and in the evening a lean cuisine. I am doing it for the one month before my surgery and I am losing, only been on it for a week ( so I will technically be on it less than a month), The only problem I have is that I am eating so much veggies I fart alot (so much for the ozone layer)

gingerjane....not sure what all you are allowed to eat but I was watching Barefoot Contessa the other day (cooking show on food network) and Ina (hostess) made some zucchini pancakes. I was thinking that you could add the shredded zucchini to the pancake batter along with the little bit of chopped red onion and then use a cooking spray in a non-stick pan to cook them. (Of course, you would need to like zucchini and was even thinking you could mix it half and half with a yellow squash or just sub the yellow squash.) Here's the link to her recipe.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
