April Bandster Bunnies

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I got a date of April 29th, I will be going for all my testing on the 16th of March. I do have a question, my doctor told me if I have a hiatal hernia, he will not band me. Why wouldn't a doctor fix the hernia oppose to the more drastic bypass surgery that he requested I get. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am not sure but when I meet with mu surgeon yday, he stated that if I had a hernia problem he would go ahead and repair it whiles he is in there. I am not sure what a hiatal hernia is but from a most of the post I have been reading it appears that some people had thier hernias repaired during the surgery. I would ask the doctor why?

My 2 cents

Hello all....

I just got my surgery date for April 5th. I'm very excited and have been very fortunate w/ this process through Tricare. They only thing I am concerned about is the pre op appt w/ the hospital. Guess I am a little nervous they will find something on my EKG or x rays...:sad:Guess I will wait and see.

Good luck to all the April Banster Bunnies!

My date is 4/22/10.....long journey to get here. Let us know about the Unjury, as I am lactose intolerant also and would love to know how that worked for you.

Congrats to the new Bandster Bunnies. I am so excited that we are growing. Anyway, my pre-op testing showed that I have the H Pylori bacteria (causes stomach ulcers, reflux etc) and my doctors put me on a bunch of pills called the Prev-Pack. The medication makes u feel like the first trimester of a pregnancy. I was tired the whole day, bloated, nauseated, gassy and just an overall sick feeling. This is treatment last for 14 days. This is going to overlap with Pre-Op diet so u see I am about to be once crazy looking person:mad:

From my research, I am not the only one with these side effects. Just thought I wld give a heads up in case anyone has to go thru this. :blushing:

I am so sorry to hear they found this. I understand that the treatment is not very fun, but think how much better you will do with the band if you are not fighting this bacteria too. Hang in there - it will be worth it in the end!!!!!!!!!

Mamasugar - sorry about all the pills that you have to take - doesn't sound like fun.

It's true though - think how much better you will feel once you are all done with the medicine. Then it's BAND AWAY!!!!

Good luck.

My surgery date is April 7 and it is coming up fast. I have been eating horribly for the last few months so I am doing some dieting now. I would appreciate any ideas folks have.

During the week I am fine with an unsweetened soy milk and soy Protein powder shake for Breakfast and again for lunch. When I get home I am having lean chicken or shrimp and steamed brocolli or cauliflower. I eat some raw veggies like bell peppers, celery, or other really low carb veggies. Of course I add sugar free Jello and sugar free popcicles and broth.

The weekend is harder and I find my self eating more at home so I am sticking to meats and low carb veggies. Today I had scrambled eggs with peppers, green onions, and lean deli sliced turkey. I topped it with some of my soy cheese with less than one carb per slice.

I have found Propel Water packets that have no Aspartame in them and are clear (don't look like you are drinking KoolAide). Aspartame makes my joints hurt, but Splenda does not. I have totally stopped drinking Diet Coke and caffeine.

This is day 7 and I am down 10 pounds. I hope to keep this up until my surgery. My doctor only requires two days of liquids before surgery so I am lucky. I figure I had better start shrinking my liver now so the surgery will go well.

I have been a successful Atkins dieter in the past (never stays off though) and this seems to me what the preop diet is doing, cutting carbs to use up glycogen stores. Am I right?

My next step is exercise. I hurt and hate to walk, but I know I have to get started.

Any feedback? I feel I am doing well, but need support to keep it up!

I probably won't make the April Bandster Bunnies but maybe May. I go on Thursday and if I am approved at that time maybe I will have a date in May.

Good luck to all of you. I will be following your posts and hopefully joining your group.

I'm not sure if I will be banded in April or May. I have my last nutritionist visit on 3/19. After that, I will just be waiting on insurance approval. Wish me luck...and good luck to all of you!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
