Anyone gaining A LOT?

Recommended Posts

I feel like Im gaining weight like its going out of style. Im 16 weeks and have gained a lb for every week Ive been pregnant. I still fit into me prepragnancy size clothes but the pants are getting snug. I so did not want to gain a ton of weight with this pregnancy but I cant stop eating. I had 2cc taken out of my band and now I have absolutely no restriction and Im hungry all of the time. Anyone else in the same boat? Everyone I talk to is losing weight or staying the same blahhh!!

I am now five pounds away from gaining all the 45 lbs I lost thanks to my lovely lapband. Am I sad? yes. Destroyed?nope. I am still in MUCH MUCH better shape with this second pregnancy than I was with the first. I acknowledge I have really enjoyed myself with food. It was more nostalgic emotional eating than anything else. But IT WILL come to an end no more than 2 months after delivery I will fill the band to restrict me once again and get back on that wagon. I looked TOO GOOD and felt great before getting pregnant. I want that back! think positive, and remeber how much better skinny hanky panky is when compared to the big ol' butt version

I am about to have my baby any day now and I have gained over 60lbs with this pregnancy. I am getting filled 6 weeks after delivery and CANNOT wait. I lost all of my weight (like over 100lbs)and had a lower body lift before getting pregnant a year after the lift. It has been really really hard for me to gain all this weight. Everyone tells me that I will lose like 1/2 of the weight just after delivery - within 6 weeks and the rest will be from resuming my normal expercise routine, breast feeding and restricting my diet. I CANNOT wait to start losing - it is really killing my self-esteem and unfortunately preventing me from fully enjoying my pregnancy as much.

Rain: Everyone's weight gain is totally different. I have friends who gained 30 lbs in the first trimester and then leveled off at a total of 35 lbs for the whole pregnancy. I have another friend who didn't put on anything until almost 24 weeks! I'm due on Sunday and to date, I've gained 35 lbs... today is the first day I haven't worked and I'm a little nervous about gaining a few pounds between now and my delivery date since I'm not as active as I am when working and boredom can contribute to eating when not hungry!

Karen, losing half of a 60 lb weight gain after delivery is unrealistic so don't beat yourself up about it. During delivery, you should lose the weight of the baby (7-8 lbs), the placenta (1-2 lbs) , the amniotic Fluid (2 lbs), and perhaps some blood and Water (3-5 lbs). That's a maximum of about 15 pounds... delivering the baby doesn't make us lose the extra fat stores we put on over the course of the pregnancy.

I'm in a similar situation to you as I've lost over 110 lbs and was at goal for years before I got pregnant. I had a *very* hard time with seeing myself grow larger with the pregnancy. I maintained my 3-4x/week workouts up until week 33 but since then, I've just relied on the 2 mile walks I'd get from commuting to NYC.

The good thing for all of us is that we've got the tools and the drive and we already know how to get the weight off again. Here's to HEALTHY babies and happy moms who keep our kids active :frown:

I agree that everyones weight gain is different. One thing I remember from being banded in pregnant is that I was sooo hungry the first trimester that there were times were I felt like if I didn't eat something soon I would eat the bark off of the trees, lol. I also remember going shopping at the grocery store and eating something by the time I was in the car. Early pregnancy gave me a voracious appetite, and then I was fine thereafter.

As far as losing 30 pounds post delivery, I had lost that much by two weeks out. Not everyone does, but if you are retaining a lot of Water it can happen.

One unfortunate thing I noticed after pregnancy is that it is a lot harder to get back into losing mode. Our bodies are readjusting. There is also some difficulty switching from the "I'm feeding my baby so I can splurge a little" during pregnancy back to toeing the line. The other factor is that you are extremely busy with a new baby and time to focus on yourself or your health is hard to come by.

My baby is 8 months old, I weigh 146 now but I did weigh 138 prior to pregnancy. I was 188 on the day of delivery. At the rate I am going post pregnancy over the last few months, I am lucky to lose 1 pound a month.

I am not exactly where I want to be, but I am OK under 150 pounds. Not gaining for me is an accomplishment in itself.

Good luck everyone with losing those post baby pounds.

Thanks ladies for your replies. It just gets discouraging seeing the weight creep back up. Im now really focusing again and tracking on Fitday.com so I can see where Im going crazy. Of course I upped my calories for the baby. I just want to hold steady for the next few weeks so Im not huge by the time delivery gets here.

I must add that with my daughter 5.5 years ago I had lost over 100 lbs with Weight Watchers and gained it all back during my pregnancy and do NOT want to repeat this. I thought oh I can eat whatever I want its so easy to lose. Not. I never lost it and then got the band 5 years later. But as most of us know food is an addiction and it overides the brain that knows Dont eat that or youll regret it later.

It really IS hard, and strange to watch those scales creep up. I got a total unfill at 8 weeks due to a gall bladder attack and never got refilled. For some bizarre reason, pregnancy killed off my sweet tastebuds first trimester, but they're back in force now.

I'm 25 weeks and have gained about 10 pounds so far, though I started my pregnancy still 60-70 lbs overweight, so my target was supposed to be around 15 lbs. I've had to accept that I'm probably going to gain closer to 20-25 pounds. I think I've managed to do fairly well, but the worst part for me is that means seeing the dreaded 250 on the scales again. Bah. I'm at 244-245 now (pre-preg weight of 238) and I think it's highly unrealistic to think I'll only gain 5 pounds in the last trimester.

Hang in there though! You still have the band and you still know how to take the weight off. I think my biggest successes in the first half of the pregnancy came from focusing on still eating like a bandster as much as possible (lean Protein, produce) and adding in the HEALTHY things I had missed--like the raw veggies that used to get stuck, a big bowl of salad greens, some whole grain bread, etc. I don't limit my food, just try to use some of those old diet skills by filling up on lower cal produce. I think it will be easier to pare those back than it would be to have to eliminate white bread/pasta/rice/sweets.

I get stuck sometimes but most I get through but I have been resorting to lots of slider foods I admit that!

The scary part is monday they are checking for multiples!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
