So scared to get rid of fat clothes!

Great ideas to keep a couple of key articles of clothes as a reminder of things past. Maybe I'll get a shadow box and frame some granny panties and a bra... just for laughs inside the closet door.

The majority of my stuff that I've outgrown was either donated or tossed depending on it's condition. However, there are 3 pieces that I have had altered twice so far. They're exceptionally comfortable, high quality and the silhouette remains flattering on my frame. They were a reward to myself when I lost 75 lbs and even still with an additional 60 lb loss I can still wear them (my tailor is worth his weight in gold).

But don't just keep unusable clothing sitting around !!!

I saved one pair of 'FAT JEANS' so that I can look back and see what progress I have made. I was afraid to get rid of my clothes at first but I looked at it this way..this is the new me. I am NOT going back to the old me. I am starting over and I refuse to let that alien body take me over again. I am happy now. Before I was depressed and fat. I still have a long way to go but I am 60lbs lighter, started in a 22/24 and am now an 18. I own one pair of 24 jeans that sit on the top of my closet. Next year I will take them down. Just like we have to get rid of those old habits of allowing food to control us, we have to let go of other things too. It's ok to keep those clothes around for a little while. But just think of how much space you will have for NEW clothes once they are gone. Or space that can be used for something else if you aren't replacing with new clothes.

This is us people. WE DID IT!! Feel proud of yourselves.

This is gonna be a hard one for me because every time I have finally felt confident enough to get rid of my fat clothes (after losing significant weight), I regained AFTER getting rid of my fat clothes. It was like giving away the fat clothes jinxed me. Or, maybe I just like shopping for clothes. LOL

Honestly, it is more fun for me to go shop for new fat clothes than have to go into an old box for stuff I wore before. So, part of me does wonder if it made it easier to gain weight because I did give away my old fat clothes.

In any case, this time I am gonna let them go as I lose weight (at least the really big sizes). If for no other reason than my DH hates clutter and boxes of stuff lying around. But, as I get close to my goal weight and am down into the lower sizes (like 10s and 12s), I would hang onto at least one size up just because even naturally skinny people have their seasonal ups and downs. I don't expect to go all the way to goal and never have a blip or bump along the way.

save your fat jeans so you can hold them up for a picture when you reach your goal!

I undertsand the frustration, lost and regained major weight 2X before. I pull the too big clothes out of the closet and box them. About every 3-6 months I give them to good will , etc. ( by then I am sick of the box) I have a few ugly big items to remind me where I started (has to fit on 1 hanger). I don't get rid of all items in the size I just dropped ( for times when non- binding helps, e.g. bloating) i also dig the next item out of my 'saved' clothes or buy 1 pair of slacks for work- in the next size smaller - something to work towards. Yes, stuff is still, too big, but not that big. And I can take my time 'giving up' the item.

I have gone through 10 wardrobes, each time i needed a new set of clothes i took the old ones out laid them on the floor and took a picture then gave them away! It's a great feeling, i kept one pair of jeans and one shirt to reminid myself and the rest went or i wouldnt be able to have anything else in my house!

So i took a deep breath yesturday and packed up everything. I had to stacks of clothes one for goodwill and one for storage. The really big stuff i sent to good will and the one size up i packed up to keep. I realized i have nothing to wear i have been wearing the same 4 outfits. So time to go shopping. I have to admit this has been the hardest thing i had to do since getting banded. I just couldn't let go of the past but i feel so much better now that the stuff is out of my closet.

I had lost and gained 40, 50 pounds or more so many times, I struggled with this also. I was used to keeping a wide range of sizes in my closet. (I'm in my 4th year and have been maintaining for over 2 years). It took a while for it to sink in that this time it was different. I finally started giving my "fat" clothes to a close friend - I felt like I could get them back if I needed them. Also schedk to see if your support group has a clothing exchange. I also packed up boxes of my favorite, most expensive things and put them in the atttic. When I realized I had been maintaining for a year, I was finally able to let go and get rid of all my old clothes. It's a really weird experience, but it's incredible to realize that my favorite jeans are a pair I've been wearing for over 2 years, and they've never gotten tight. This band is really different than all those diets we've been on before. It can take time to get comfortable with that fact, but it's true! Best of luck!

I've been mulling this question over in my head ever since last week when I was able to buy size 20 jeans. I had been wearing my size 26s with a belt to hold them up.

I think what I will do is wash everything, then box them up in a rubbermaid box, then put them in our storage room. After a year, I will then donate them to Goodwill or give them to another bandster or maybe even take them to a consignment shop (like my nicer work clothes).

Some things (like cheap t-shirts) I may just toss. I will definitely get rid of my saggy baggy butt granny underwear!

I get almost giddy going through my stuff and bagging up the things to give away. I like to make room for the new stuff. I have given myself permission to shop! It's so much fun buying new things and not feeling guilt for spending the money because I really do need things! After the last cleanse of big clothes my closet was empty. I'm not buying lots of stuff in my current size because I hope to be down another size in a month of two. I guess I just feel like I've accomplished something when I give them up. I never used to give my stuff away because I knew I would do the usual and go back up.. this time however I am dusting off my hands and saying I'm finished with being fat, I'm going to give these things away!

I saved one pair of pants and one shirt..... so I can see the progress. I am in 14 with them loose so as soon as I switch they will go in the donation as quickly and the 16 and 18s did. I WILL NOT GO BACK. Not to mention it feels really good to purge and buy nicer stuff!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
