I have a desk job. About how long after surgery do you think I will be off work?

I have a desk job, also.

I had surgery on a Friday and was off the next week. The 2nd week I had planned to return. I caught a cold sometime around my surgery date and did half-time the 2nd week and was wishing I had taken the entire week.

Many people return after one week. Some even return after a few days.

I could not have returned in a few days.

I. have my done on 2/2/10 , Tuesday and I plan to work 1/2 days the 2nd week, what part made you wish to take od=ff the nd week your cold or the surgery?

I went back to work on the 4th day, then again I work for myself and from home, but I had several meetings that day that I needed to take. So day 4, meetings, errands and I totally felt like I over did it by the end of the day, so I went to bed early... woke up and made it through the rest of the week then thanks to the holidays had some down time :cursing:

I have a desk job and I went back on the sixth day after my surgery. It was a rough day and I got tired easily. My bra hurt. It would have been better if I had waited a full week.

I have a desk job and had surgery on Friday and flew home from Mexico to Washington on Sunday and went to work on Monday... I was fine except I had not planned my food well and ended up feeling hungry for a week or so. Buy your food in advance and you will be fine. Just don't lift anything heavy or try running around. Take you time to get up and drink your water.

I'm a physician assistant so lots of standing and walking but no straining. Surgery was on Wed, I was back on Monday. The first 2 days by noon I was worn out but made it through the day, after that I was fine. I had issues with clothing. The waist band on all my work clothes bothered the heck out of me when I sat down, even elastic waists...the only thing I found comfortable for about 2 weeks was a pair of leggings...be prepared :cursing:

I was back at my desk the next morning, although I ended up going home for a nap midday and then coming back in the afternoon for a couple more hours. By the 2nd day after I was fine. However, I work for myself so was able to set my own pace. In some offices, it may be a 'desk' job but it can still be demanding mentally, even if not physically...and you still are dealing with the anesthesia in your system.

If you can, take a couple days off...your body will thank you for it.

I think a week is a pretty good plan, but you never know how you will react from the anesthesia or the surgery.

I had a 4 day migraine from the anesthesia, so was glad I took off an entire week.

I had surgery on Wednesday and was back at my desk full time on the following Monday. However, I was exhausted most everyday when I got home that week.

Hi Tweety, I am not really sure. It was most likely the cold. All that coughing certainly did not help the recovery :cursing: And the cold definitely sapped my strength. If I had abolsutely HAD to return full time the second week, I could have powered through it, but I have a great boss who understood and told me to take whatever time I needed to get back to normal. By the third week, I was fine.

The next day, Elfie Poo? Wowser! You are Da Bomb!:scared2: How did you do that? I'd say your recovery was the exception, as are those that take more than a couple of weeks to feel normal.

I could not imagine driving myself to work the next day, much less sitting at my desk hunched over a computer. Also, part of my duties is shipping and receiving. I can walk up to 1 1/2 miles a day around the building. Walking is good after surgery, but on my pace, not Fed Ex's or UPS's. :cursing:

But, we all have our tasks that we must accomplish. I had no true need to be at work immediately after my surgery, so I wasn't. It is amazing what you can do when you have to get it done.

I had my surgery on a Thursday and didn't go back to work the entire next week. If I had a desk job, I could have gone back Monday. Here's me:

Thursday - surgery

Friday - huddled up on the couch in and out of sleep all day

Saturday/Sunday - cleaned my house from top to bottom, with lots of rest

Monday - drove 100 miles each way to LAX to pick up my boyfriend...energy fine, pain minimal

Tuesday thru Friday - fine on energy, pain minimal

I returned to work the following Tuesday, as a teacher, and was exhausted by the end of the day...that's lots of walking, bending over to help students, meetings after school, etc. I don't know if I was tired from my body still recovering or just being back at work after being lazy for a week with my boyfriend! But, by day 2 of work I was fine, and I'm doing great now, a little over 2 weeks post-op! Good thing - I don't have another day off (after today) until Feb. 6th! Funny, that's also my first fill date!

I am a medical assistant - i was out for 2 weeks - also am an emt on rescue, was out there for 3 weeks because of lifting.

I was scheduled to be off for one week, but I ended up needing about 10 days before I felt good enough to go back. Now, I have to be on my feet all day, so I'm sure that plays a role, but just make sure you take all the time you need!

I went to the doctor this morning (yes on a Sunday) and we scheduled my surgery for next Sunday 1/31. I am really excited. Dr. told me that I should stay home for 3 days minimum.
