  1. I lost 19lbs my first 2 weeks and 4 the 3rd week and only 2 this past week... I have been noticing that I can actully eat more lately, although I still try not to. I think i am ready for a fill. I had my surgery in Mexico, so I have to wait until I am 6 weeks post op to have my fill through the local clinic... they won't do it until then. In the meantime... any words of advice to keep me on track. I am struggling with the excercise, but have walked the past 2 days at work... problem is we walk and get chi tea... which is 180 calories I would otherwise do without... but I want the excuse to walk.

    Tough first week

Tomorrow will be 1 week since I was banded and It has been very hard at times. I am still starving to death and can't wait to eat something that may stick with me for more than 3 seconds. The good news it I get to try creamy foods tomorrow! Yay... and I have lost some weight... but not weighing in again until tomorrow, so I will post tomorrow how I did in week 1. The issues I had were completely my fault for trying to add coffee and a protien shake too soon, so I have learned my lesson. Please everyone be sure to follow "your" doctors orders... he/she gave them to you for a reason and just because it worked for someone else doesn't mean it will work the same for you. Be careful! Second issue I am finding is that I have not had a BM all week... has anyone else had this problem? I think i will try some prune juice tomorrow, but not today since it isn't a "clear" liquid... not taking any chances. Good luck to all!

WAHHH... my insurance won't cover it!

I am sooo sick of hearing people complain that their insurance won't cover their surgery and / or won't cover their fills... did your medical insurance buy you the hoho's and bonbon's or the couch and video games that helped you get here? Suck it up, if you want something bad enough you will find a way to make it happen. I am a single mother with 3 kids and 2 jobs. I drive a used car and don't do many extra things because I put my health on my priority list a few years ago and saved for my surgery... self pay!!! I have to pay for all of my fills and follow ups myself and am sooo sick of hearing all the big babies complain that they have to pay a portion of the cost themselves... WAHHHHHHH, cry me a river!!!

WAHHH... my insurance won't cover it!

it's just really frustrating to hear this crying every day on here... i like to read the encouraging things and the frustrations and successes of those who are doing it and making it work...and how. of coarse there are some monetary frustrations, but c'mon today the poster was complaining about paying for a fill for gods sake... she got the surgery and all previous fills paid for in full... and she was complaining about $250... then yelled at me for suggesting that that was a good price for a fill. I have heard of them being as hight as $1200 with Flouroscopy. In addition... I also pay a fortune for health insurance for myself and children and it does not cover anything for me in this regard... nor will it cover any problems I have related to the band. I gained my weight after being hospitalized after DV... and the ending of my 12 year marriage... depression and total lack of self control or care for that matter. Which brings me to the point that by the time you decide this is what you want to do you should be honest enough with youself to know what you are willing to do to achieve your goal, and complaining about a few dollars weather it be $250 or $15k isn't the issue... your health is and if you want to succeed you will make it happen. Money comes and goes... you only get one body! Most people are on here to learn and support each other not listen to babies cry about a few bucks... my point is that if you don't really want it bad enough to do it then don't.
  6. This is the post that set me off! I simply told of my research regardig pricing and that $250 is a good price for a fill and this is what I got... so Wahhhh... if you want to cry about it, and yell at people, go yell at your husbands employer! You don't need to be YELLING on here! Grow up and quit expecting everyone to pay for your mistakes... no one got you fat, you did it on your own!
  7. You are correct... we don't all have the same bills/needs... some of us live within our means and take care of elder family members as well as our own children... some of us even do it after horible divorces that leave us homeless with nothing more than our smiles to get us started again. I do not have a high paying job, I am simply a hard worker who works my butt off to take care of my mortgage, 3 children, 83yo grandmother (with no Income), and myself. $250 is a lot of money to me... and takes me 3 days to earn... but without my health I can not provide for my family, so it is a priority to me. Maybe you can pray for someone else to pay for it for you, so you can continue to pay for whatever it is you and your husband find as priorities. Good luch in your search for a "cheap" doctor.
  8. You look AMAZING.... Congrats!!!

  10. Sounds like you won't be getting a fill if you are unwilling to make a sacrifice and pay for it. A good majority of us on this forum sacrificed a lot and had to pay out of pocket for the whole thing... so i don't think you are going to get much sympathy on here for having to pay for a fill. Glad you had good insurance and have not had to "pay a penny" so far. Maybe you can find someone on a corner somewhere that will inject you with something "cheaper"... but if you want a reputable doctor to do a real fill you will have to pay... and $250 is at the bottom of the fee scale for a fill... unless you are willing to risk problems.
  11. I live in Washington and had to self pay for my Band and will also have to pay for my fills. $250 is actually a good price for a fill. I have seen them between $175 (by a nurse) and $600. Pay the $250 with a good doctor and be happy you didn't have to pay for the surgery. You are blessed to have had the coverage to get the surgery.
  12. I have a desk job and had surgery on Friday and flew home from Mexico to Washington on Sunday and went to work on Monday... I was fine except I had not planned my food well and ended up feeling hungry for a week or so. Buy your food in advance and you will be fine. Just don't lift anything heavy or try running around. Take you time to get up and drink your water.

    2 weeks post-op down 19 lbs

it has been hard... i won't lie, but now i see the results so soon and feel great! i wasn't getting enough protien at first and was dying of hunger, but have begun to try to correct that and am feeling fairly satisfied. not really sure i know what hunger is other than when my stomache has been growling like a lion. but the last 2 days have been good. my 9 year old daughter hugged me today and said "wow, mom you're loosing weight... i used to not be able to touch my fingers now i can do this- as she entertwined them together  made me feel really good... i had to tease and ask "are you sure your arms didn't jsut grow?" 19 lbs in 2 weeks tho... i feel great! hoping i can keep loosing at a good rate.

14 days post-op first time throwing up

I was finally having an ok morning... had yogurt and v8 for b'fast... no snacks(not that i didn't want them), and went to lunch with a co-worker. Ordered beans and shredded chicken with pico in a bowl... took a few bites and had to run to the restroom... first time throwing up, I could clearly see (in the bowl) why It happened... I didn't chew well at all. I'm empty again now and sipping water. I am afraid to eat again. How long should I wait, or should I just do pudding and stuff the rest of the day?

12 Days Post Op and still starving!

I'm thinking this was a HUGE waste of money!!! HUGE!!!! I am starving to death, sick, tired constantly... to the point where i am afraid i could loose my job because i can not get motivated. I can't get full... I've been trying to follow all the diet rules and eat what I was told to eat, but I can not get full on 1/2 cup or even 2 cups of food... my stomache is growling constantly. I gave up today and ate about 10 mini twix bars... and am ready to have more... damn candy dish on my desk! I called my dr in mexico he says i need a fill... but i live in WA state and can't get one with NWfills until I am 6 weeks post op... i could gain a ton of weight in the next month... loose my job, become severly depressed and hide in a hole before then... which would do my 3 kids and i no good at all. I'm a single mom and thought this would help me, but it is not... it is just making life SUCK!!! worse than ever... guess i'd rather be fat than fat and starved and sick and tired all at the same time.

12 Days Post Op and still starving!

I'm still STARVED! I have tried protien shakes but they are disgusting... haven't found any one that i like yet and I've wasted about $200 on them now. I was not on a liquid diet or any diet of any kind before my band, they said my BMI didn't require it. I started this journey with a great "can do" attitude... but to be honest... the only support I am getting about my decision to do this is at work and on here... my family thinks I'm nuts and have wasted my money. I just want to be happy, and this is truely Hell! I think if i could get a fill it would help, but I can't go back to Mexico to do it because of work and I am scared to death to feel like this for the next 4 weeks before i can get a fill here. Today I had an odwalla juice for breakfast... a sugar free pudding mid morning, about 1/4 of my chicken and vegi stir fry for lunch, another pudding, about 5 small 3 muskateers, a huge burito from the mexican resteraunt for dinner (of which i didn't eat the cheese or most of the tortilla... just the beans and meat), and then about 1/2 cup of frozen yogurt... and i am still starved... I drank 6 bottles of water today (12 oz), and a glass of water before lunch at the resteraunt. I eat slow and chew thouroughly, I have only felt the chest hurt a couple times from going too fast, and it was not comfortable, so i am really trying... just can't beat the starving feeling. I feel totally healed and my doc says i'm probably ready for a fill... uugh!!! and i haven't lost anything in the past week... but lost 14 in the first few days.

    Surgery in Mexico

These seminars are designed to bring in money for the doctor that is hosting the seminar... i think they will tell you anything they can to scare you. I debated the band for over 3 years before doing it and know dozens of people who went to mexico for the surgery and not one that had any problems. Other than not following the rules and not loosing the weight... but that's not a banding issue...

    Surgery in Mexico

I was successfully banded on 1/8/2010 by Dr. Lopez Corvala. Everything was fantastic from the planning to current. The hospital was beautiful and clean, the surgery and the staff were wonderful and the after care as far as phone calls and such (for my own dumb mistakes- not following directions) has been wonderful too. I paid $5995 and was picked up at the airport and taken to the hospital for 2 nights then a 5 star hotel for a night then back to the airport. It was a great experience. I highly recommend Dr. Lopez Corvala and his team. They represent health care as it should be!

  22. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! How exciting!!! I am only 11 days post op and hope to be telling a story similar to yours soon. Keep up the great work and enjoy those jeans... you can send them my way when you shrink out of them How many cc's did you get for your first fill? and how big is your band?
  23. Please keep us updated on your journey. I strongly suggest contacting your surgeon and an attorney. See what the surgeon has to say/offer for your pain and costs associated with surgery... then if you are not completely satisfied contact an attorney.

I would demand that the surgeon pay for you to have your lap band re-done and all future fills and appointments in connection with the band as well as any doctor bills you owe for visits associated with the pain of their mistake. With the Flouroscopy there is no reason they should not have seen that the band was not in place.

I had my surgery in Mexico and they gave me my floroscopy exrays and explained to me what i was looking at and what they were looking for in the picture... sounds to me like someone didn't fully look at your picture.

It's your body, you only get one... don't let sureons and fill experts who charge an arm and a leg get away with not paying attention to their job and your needs.

    Good luck!

    almost 1 week pre-op, concerned.....

I had my band put in on 1-8-10 and have been having the same issue. I am hungry every couple hours and don't get full like I expected. I am still sticking to the diet of mushy foods and trying hard, but feel like it isn't working. I had my surgery in Mexico and am not scheduled to even talk about my fill until 6 weeks post-op. It's a bit frustrating...
