My Fitness Pal Food Nutrition Tracker

I use MyFitness Pal too. I started using it about a month ago. I don't know if you have noticed how to changed the percentages but I adjusted mine to suit my body. Everyone is different. I require a lot more protein according to my surgeon and less carbs to lose. So I currently have it set at 40% carbs 50% protein and 10% fat. I have my calories set at 1400 but rarely do I get that many. Keep in mind too that when you log your exercise it will add available calories for that day. I hope you like it as much as I do. It has really helped me focus on what I am eating and how much I am exercising.:smile2:

    I have a new baby...

Congrats! Good idea by the way!
  4. I believe it does happen alot faster for some people. I had surgery 12/09/09 and I was officially off all of my insulin 6 weeks later. Still haven't had any issues. Congrats on your lower blood pressure, that is awesome!

    2nd fill yesterday

So I got my 2nd fill yesterday bringing me to 5.2cc in a 10cc band. My first fill was only 4 cc. WOW, what a difference a small amount can make. I went home to the normal 24 hours of liquids my doctor advises and had a glass of milk. I drank it just like I had been and soon discovered that isn't going to work anymore. I had to, I know gross, PB some of it. I had never had that happen with anything before. Never PB'd before at all. So lesson learned here, I must drink much slower and I am betting that when I am back to solid food, I won't be eating as fast either. Amazing the little lessons we learn along the way. I am currently sipping my coffee! lol
  6. I was banded 12/09/09 and so far nothing stuck. I do get uncomfortable if I eat too fast though. I have 5.2cc in a 10cc band with really good restriction right now.

    Everything is Down hill

At the time I thought the 6 months diet was crazy too but looking back I realize now that one of the reasons they do it is to see how serious you are about making a commitment to getting the band. It actually took me over 2 years, long story, but once I did the everything and had my surgery, I can tell you this side of the fence is the best place in the world. I WAS a severe diabetic 7 weeks ago. Now I am off one insulin and most likely coming off the other soon. I feel 10 years younger and in control. Believe me when I tell you that it will pass quicker than you think and you too will join me over here where life is good and healthy. I will keep you in my prayers!

    ME

  12. I had surgery on Wednesday and was back at my desk full time on the following Monday. However, I was exhausted most everyday when I got home that week.
  13. First of all you are already doing the most important thing you could do and getting prepared and being supportive now. I personally could not have done this without my family. I personally told my family and my brother who I am extremely close to was very upset about me having it. Now I am 3 weeks out and doing so well, he finally sees that it wasn't a horrible thing and that I am happy and on my way to being healthy. If your wife doesn't want to tell anyone, that is her decision and you should support it. This is a personal decision and should only be shared with those you choose to share it with. It is inspiring to see a husband who is so supportive. Good luck to your wife!
  14. I found the 6 pack of 8 oz bottles of Isopure Alpine Punch and Grape at CVS. They run about $10. The punch is my favorite and has 15 g of protein per bottle.

    December Bandsters 2009

Hello everyone! This board was so helpful to me so I thought I would drop in and offer some experience to those still pre-op. I am 7 days post-op and feel awesome! Surgery went great, recovery so far is wonderful. My biggest complaint has been the gas pain but like those before me walking, Gas X strips and a heating pad seem to do the trick. I am so excited for all of you to join me on the other side, so Merry Christmas and best wishes on your banding!!!!
  16. I was in the same boat as you. So many tried to push me to get Bypass, but I decided what was best for me and got the Lap Band. I think the most important thing to remember is that it is YOUR decision and that the Lap Band isn't a fix all. It's a tool to help us achieve what all of us have struggled so long with, to lose weight. My Nut put it best I think. She said that I had to make the choice of using this tool to my advantage, or letting the tool use me. I can tell you from the other side, I am 1 week post-op, that I am so happy with my decision and would make the same one again and again. Good Luck!

    Is it worth it?

I have heard that question a million times since my surgery on Wednesday. I am 4 days post-op and would do it again in a heartbeat. Even going through the trouble I had, it is worth it. It is worth getting my life back. It is worth being able to play with my niece, who is the light of my life, and not get winded after a few minutes. It is worth coming off the $300 a month worth of medicines I am on a month, most of which will go away once I lose the weight. It is worth the energy I can already feel bubbling just below the surface. It is worth walking into any store and picking something up off the rack and it fitting rather than having to order everything through mail order. Most of all it is worth the knowing that I have done something that will make me healthy, healthier than I have been in many many years. So my answer to the question is, YES it is worth it!:tongue2:
  18. I had surgery 12/9 and will be going back to work tomorrow, 12/14,but only for 1/2 days this week. I had a major hital hernia so still not really strong. I probably could stay all day but I have the vacation time so I am taking it. My surgeon told me that everyone is different and that I would know when it was right for me. My mom took 3 days off and stayed with me the day of surgery and left Friday afternoon 2 days after. I am getting around and doing for myself just fine, just get tired really easy. Hope this helps!

    December Delights 2009

You are so right Austro about the coughing and pain meds. I was banded on Wednesday. On Friday I developed a nasty cough. I finally called the on call surgeon, who happened to be my surgeon, today and he said to take my pain meds that there is codeine in it and this is a cough suppressant. Apparently I had a really bad hital hernia and the work that was done to repair it aggrevated my diapragm(sp?) and it is causing me to cough. Who would have thought the pain meds which I didn't feel like I needed would actually turn out to be my savior?

    December Bandsters 2009

I'm finally coherent enough to post since surgery yesterday. Surgery went great, of course according to my surgeon he fixed the biggest hital hernia he has ever seen on me. I was sick all day and night from being put to sleep but feeling better now. Really sore but nothing I can't handle. My mom is staying with me for a few days and the plan is to go for a nice walk this afternoon so maybe I will get rid of some of the stiffness. I have been trying to get up about once an hour and walk around the house but feel super drained so that is hard. Hope everyone is doing ok that was banded yesterday.

    December Bandsters 2009

I am getting ready to head to the hospital but wanted to pop in to say good luck to my fellow bansters who will be in surgery with me today! I will try and pop in later this evening and let you all know how it went.
  23. I am on day 10 of 14 of the Optifast diet and I have the following tips. 1. The first couple of days stink. This is the reality, no other way around it. I slept alot those 2 days. 2. The shakes taste better if blended in the blender with ice and add artificial sweetner like Splender to them. Makes them so much better. 3. Make sure you are following the exact way your doctor tells you to do them. Mine is 5 packets a day. Do not skip 1, makes you miserable the next morning for some reason. 4. Lots of Water or you will feel, for lack of better words, stopped up. The water does the trick I promise. Amazing the amount of knowledge one can gain in 10 days of nothing but Optifast shakes. I can tell you it does get easier after the first couple of days and is really not bad now. GOOD LUCK!!:w00t:
