WEIRD post surgery issue...Restless Leg Syndrome?! help!

Recommended Posts

Okay...this might be one where

the board goes, "Huh? Nope, you're the only one!"

But I'm gonna test it anyway.

About 2 weeks after surgery,

when I lie down to go to sleep my

legs start to get really anxious,

like I need to get up and run.

(If anyone has had Benadryl withdrawls,

this is what it's like.)

I have to constantly move them or

it feels like I'm going crazy.

My brain and eyes are tired,

but my legs are WIDE awake.

It lasts about an hour or two

then stops and I can sleep.

Along with it are randon nerve firings (little itchings)...

on the bottom of my foot, then on my hip,

then arm, then head, then side of foot,

then a place on my back I can't reach, and so on.

I have never had this happen and

I really don't need to solve one problem (my big fat ass)

and ease into another problem (insanity).

Anyone know why this is happening?

What it is, if it's not Restless Leg Syndrome?

Happen to anyone else?

ARRRRG!

If it's not RLS I would say it's the rest of the anethesia getting out of your system. Everybody reacts differently to it. If you're not walking and flushing your system it's still in there and can take up to 6 weeks to be out completely.

I had considered that, but I have been working out.

Plus this only happens at night when I go to bed.

I just did some research and

it appears that Iron deficiency

is one of the causes of RLS.

However, if that's my problem,

wouldn't more people have reported it here?

I'm confused!

I hope you are right about the anesthesia.

That means there's an end in sight.

EDIT: I just spoke with the nurse and she said

anesthesia would NOT have that side effect.

She agreed (based on my pre-surgery lab work) that I may need some Iron.< /p>

I was already on the low end to begin with.

So now...I don't feel so crazy.

I'm not post surgery, but I have RLS. In the medical community views on RLS are split 50/50, those who believe in it and those who think it's a load of BS. Also that it is very hard to determine a reason for it. HOWEVER...most people who have it also have Thyroid problems, which I do! I'm not a doctor so I'm not diagnosing you But maybe it's worth a look?

Yes, I had it in exactly the same time frame. It went away after a few days. I don't know why it happened, but my DR did not know why either.

After I read that one of the causes of RLS

was Iron defeciency I went and bought

SLOW FE (gentle iron) and THAT night my legs were fine.

I haven't had an episode since getting the Iron.< /p>

If others have RLS and it doesn't relate to iron issues,

there is a great natural oil made for RLS and it works.

I have 2 friends who have it and this stuff helps.

You rub in on at night...no RLS.

Yes. I too have this problem. I had restless leg in the past but it was once every once in a while but this, this is every night. I’m 1 week post op and tbh I haven’t been taking my Vitamins properly. I had gastric sleeve. Hopefully once I start back in track with my vitamins it will get better.

You need more magnesium. I take slow mag. It is timed released so you have enough to keep those leg cramps and restless legs quiet.

I do take,Magnesium, it is wonderful,at preventing, muscle spasms. I believe,at least a,part. is Stimming, that's not something you willfully do. It relieves the tension the 🌏has given us. The few I have dicussed this. " later than usual " diagnosis, most medical personnel, do seem,to understand, one person, I have demoted them to mere acqaintance from, active friend. Her response, was " Her you dont look retarded ! Well,of coursr not, many people who,are challenged,,intelligence look, perfectly aversge, but okay, actually,i am High Functio and have tested, high enough for zMensa, I may be Socially inept but,i,am Smart. Just a minor wrinkle that sets me apart. I tell people I am Limited Edition, never merely average. But,i do know Restless Leg, late hubby had it, it really affected his Relaxing times.

I had the same issue after surgery. To the point where I was exhausted from not being able to hold still and go to sleep. My mind was exhausted but my legs wanted to dance. It went away at about 3 weeks.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
