800 calories isn't much. Are you male or female? I really would need to know your stats to give my opinion. Weight, height, age, how long have you been banded?

Well I don't know if it's healthy or not but I'm on my pre-op diet and its 800 calories a day so I feel your pain if your starving like me. I have lost quite a bit of weight 15 pounds in 9 days. Hope my liver is skinnier.

Still need to know your weight & height to give an informed opinion.

Have you talked with a nutritionist? If not, I recommend you do. Then you will know exactly what you should be eating in order to remain healthy while you lose weight. If you don't eat enough your body will go into starvation mode and hold onto your fat instead of letting go of it.

I try to stay around 1,000 calories per day. My nutritionist says I can have up to 1,500. I wasn't losing well at 1,500 so I try to have less. I find that if I fluctuate my calorie intake I lose more regularly. Some days I only have about 800 calories if I'm not feeling as hungry. Other days I am super hungry and have more.

You need to find what works best for you since we are all different. Again, I recommend you see a nutritionist. The nutritionist will be able to tell you what you need to eat to maintain proper nutrition.

Like Happy2Lose,

I am also doing 1000 calories a day. Self imposed but it is helping my weight loss. Lots of good information here, but make sure you are being safe and getting the proper nutrients.

I'm not "on" it, as in "imposed by a doctor," but have a miserably slow metabolism that does function best around that caloric level. Which explains my need for the band!

I'm curious! May I ask you all what you eat on 800 cal a day? Could you give me an example of a menu ? My nutritionist says 1000 - 1200, but some days i know i consume twice that, and other days no where near that. all depends on my band... But I'd like to find a happy medium - 800 - 900

Any help and suggestions would be great! :-)

I try to keep at or under 1000. My typical day may be something like this...

2 hard boiled eggs w/ olive oil mayo

7-8 low salt crackers

1 cup of leftovers: could be 4 oz of Tilapia or 3.5 ounces of homemade meat loaf w/ steamed veggies

5-6 oz of fresh fish or 3.5 oz of meat loaf or 4 oz chix breast baked w/ steamed veggies or salad with no sugar added dressing.

I do not eat added sugar and I do not eat processed foods.

I also drink a crazy amount of Water...somewhere around 100-120 oz daily

I eat 1200-1500 per day and have a Protein intake of at least 60g per day. I eaten this way since I was banded 18 months ago.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
