What's with all the sneezing?

Recommended Posts

I am not a sneezer.

I don't have allergies.

Unless I directly breath in dust or something...I do not sneeze.

But since the surgery I sneeze often.

Is this a weird side effect or something?

Thank goodness my incisions don't hurt anymore

because it was like a punch in the gut when I'd sneeze.

I haven't heard of this associated with banding, but know MANY people who've had Roux-en-y for whom sneezing is their "full" signal.

I have this problem too. It must be a nerve thing. If I even take one bite past my full I have a sneeze attack.

It seems like sneezing from hay fever. It seems like that is part of my "slime" process.

I agree with Humming Bird. I think it has something to do with the sliming process. I have it alot when I start to eat. It seems to be a warning to slow way down. I usually have it at the first of the meal not at the end.

My husband has not had WLS, but he has been a mealtime sneezer for the 17 years that I have known him. When he gets full, he has a sneeze attack.

I've done some research and found others who have sneezing related to eating, and there are quite a few people out there who do, but the answers are more assumptions and guesses rather than any proven medical fact.

The most common theory has to do with food in the esophagus, and the nerves therein being connected to the nasal passages. Apparently, so goes this particular theory, when there is food in the esophagus, it triggers a sneeze response in some individuals.

I would like to find a definitive answer on this tho, and maybe see if there is something that can stop it -- my husband is an incredibly LOUD sneezer, and it can be quite attention drawing in restaurants :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
