Lap Band or Sleeve?????
me myself, I'm going with the band. I don't like the idea of being cut. the fact that they leave the part that they cut to "float" scares the bageebies out of me...I've heard of people getting cancer in their floating stomach that has no function. I like the fact that the band, should anything go wrong can be removed and my stomach return to its normal self. Good luck in whatever you decide!

Not sure about this!!!
Don't do it...you aren't ready for the commitment...

NEVER, NEVER AGAIN....
It like previous posters have said...maybe the band wasn't for you. May you have better luck with your RNY. But you must also follow the rules no matter what type of surgery you have. I have an aunt that had RNY about 10 years ago and she looked real good. LookED...past tense...yeah, she's probably about 25-30lbs from her presurgery weight. Not because the RNY didn't work, but because of bad eating habits. I still don't see why so many people want to rant about their short comings with the band. I don't hear that much about the original "swedish bands" maybe I should look closer...but they have been using them since the 80s if I'm not mistaken and if they were so bad or didn't work why/how did the FDA in our good ole U S of A approve them in the 1st place? And we have some of the best health care in the world!

Carpe Diem
Congrats! Keep up the good work! What is your goal?

Preop Diet, Not sure if this is right
Btw...for my sanity, I'm going hi protein, low fat the week before surgery...can't hurt! :-)

Preop Diet, Not sure if this is right
My surgeon as well doesn't require a pre op diet. She is one of the best in the state and I trust her judgement. You're the 1st that I've heard of that had to do the mag citrate...do you know what its for? You have that right to question why/how your pre op goes. And most surgeries say nothing by mouth after midnight. At least for my knee surgery and my kids tonsilectomy there was no eating after midnight...

Off topic But really need advice about relatioship!
If you want you marriage to work then you must put in work. Like your mother said, you're both even. You understand how he felt when you seen your old flame. Do you trust him now? Does he trust you? Talk to him about your fears if you really want to make it work. And don't make it work for the kids sake. Make it work because you want it to. Kids suffer more in an unhappy marriage..

HELP.....question on post surgery insurance!!!
I think those that are having a hard time getting insured are those who private pay for health insurance. I'm not sure, but that's what I think. I can't really see a company or corporation having an exclusion for maintaining the band when they paid to have it placed. But stranger things have happened. Let us know what you find out...

waiting, waiting, waiting
Me too! Except my surgeons office was faxing it to the wrong number but once everything was straight it took insurance about 30mins...surgeons office 4weeks...smh...but its done so no harm

have you seen a video of the surgery?
Maybe the day AFTER I will :-)...but right now, I'm just a big ole wimp...lol...

Is it okay to vent here? Not to scare anyone....
Stand your ground, provide them with the research that you've done on the band, the process, your surgeon. People only see and report the negative. We need a happy news channel! Good luck, don't sulk...it makes you look weak and not educated about your choice. Stand tall, be proud of the decision that you have made not only for yourself but for your son!

have you seen a video of the surgery?
I haven't had surgery yet, but I refuse to watch it! I have passed the stills on youtube but I feel if I watch it I won't go through with it. I watched a adonectomey (sp?) AFTER my daughter had it done and I cried! My surgeon provided me with the scope of my knee and again I cried! I. Am. A. Wimp. I am woman enough to admit it. Have you seen a video? Going to watch before or after your surgery?

Dr Feiz the disappearing surgeon!
I think that the surgeons job is that...surgery...my surgeon is super busy she not only does bariatrics, but she does other surgeries as well. Its like a car salesman, they may get you the best deal, be super nice, set you up real good, but they really don't know about car maintence. That's where your mechanics come in to play. The PA's are there to keep you tuned up, and answer any and all questions that you have. Good luck, I hope that you become more comfortable with the total staff, nurses, PA's, receptionist and everyone.

not frustrated anymore
I have been bugging the doctors office the insurance company and I will do it no more! When it is time for me to be scheduled, it will happen. I do want to get it over but this is stressing me (and my blood pressure). So I have decided not to fret, worry or keep a 24hr vigil over my lapband process. I have bigger things to worry about right now, like breaking up all this ice from my walkway, switching laundry detergents because my girls are breaking out, making sure that my son is on track to graduate and go to college (oh its FASFA time!) I'll be around, just not getting frustrated on why someone else and not me.

Approval Anthem BCBS
So I'm calling my surgeons office on Monday to see what's going on. Another Anthem BCBS person here. I'm nervous now...they said they submitted it last Friday, but when I called anthem on Monday, they hadn't received anything :-( I'm also calling anthem back...cross your fingers!

why am i not super excited!!!!
My advice, keep a picture of the old you somewhere near looking fat, preferably with food in your hand/mouth. Remind yourself how you don't want to be that person anymore. Keep a bottle or 2 of old meds that are not going to be part of your routine, set a goal for yourself, a new pair of shoes, size 12pants, remember why you are doing all of this. And my personal saying, you have to please yourself before you can please anyone else...and you deserve this! If all else fails, laugh...laugh at the fact that you can walk a flight of stairs and not be winded, laugh that you don't drive round and round at the mall waiting on someone to leave a spot close to the door, laugh that you can dance...the WHOLE song! Don't say what if, say why not! Good luck, and I'll stop rambling now and go to sleep...lol...
