Do I have a medical degree no. Considering a huge majority of doctors, includeing mine keep people on Clear Liquids for 7 days, full liquids (tomato soup) 7 days I think your doctor is setting you up for physical damage. I would not have been allowed the type and consistancy of foods you mentioned for 4 weeks! I agree with a previous poster go watch a surgery to see what your body has gone through. I am not saying these things to be mean spirited. I am almost a year post op and I have read many many postings on this site that scare me. One person wrote in they were disappointed in the surgery because one week post op they could eat a big mac. Blenderizing food so early is like finding a loop whole in the tax law. Just because you found it does'nt mean you should use it.

honk got a reaction from MaryAnn862 in Approval by Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield
Empire did not require me to do a specific diet but my surgeon required a loss of % of body weight. So my doctor wanted 10% loss which meant 30-34 pounds. By the time I had done all my surgery requirements: tests; group therapy sessions; appointments with nurses, nutritionist, surgeon it had been 3 months. So the question is what other requirements your doctor has and how much weight they want you to loose. My surgery had to be postponed for other reasons but I had finished the requirements including weight loss in 3 months.

whey isolate is the highest quality Protein. Personally I feel GNC is a rip off. Vitamin Shoppe has much better prices. Isolate is a little more expensive but worth it.

Went in to meet with Nurse Practictioner today and she does'nt see anything that indicates a leak. She does not however have an explaination of why I lost 4 cc's over the last year.
NP mentioned she was going to present my case at the departmental meeting and have the surgeons review my upper GI, endoscopy and fluoro.
The loss of saline was discovered when I went in for an appointment and they always check the saline level.
I tried to stay with some lap band serving sizes but admittedly I was making some bad food choices. This would be keeping crackers at my desk for lunch/snacks. Since I work long hours it can be a long time between lunch and dinner. Esp. considering I go to the gym after work.
Before my first meeting with the NP I had banished the carbs from my desk.
I was a little annoyed that she did not comment on my 9 pound loss since my last appointment 21 days ago. I think that's pretty darn good for someone with no band support. As I mentioned earlier I never stopped my exercising. Image how much I would have gained if I had!

After not having insurance that covers the band for a year I finally got insurance that includes bariatrics. I knew I had gained weight but sad reality was it was 40 pounds. Ouch I know. Though please note I do 60 minutes of moderate/intense cardio 7 days a week.
At the end of my appointment the nurse pulled out 7 CC's when there should have been 11 CC's. She sent me for an upper GI and the doctor said there was no where near 11 CC's in there (per nurse some saline could be in the tube). The Barium just flowed right through with no restriction. Went for an Endoscopy no erosion. Had a fill under fluroscopy and there is no leak in the port or tube. Doctor did see though that the contrast /saline was pooling in one section of the band. Which he had never seen before. All leaks he has seen have been in the port or tube.
Seems like an explanation as to why my band is no longer working if the saline is not evenly distributed around the band.
    Anyone else have this happen?

honk got a reaction from JOANNE M HOLL in How Much Restriction Is Enough And What Are The Risks?
I think the biggest thing to remember is that the band is literally connected to living tissue. And living tissue whose main function is moving around and twisting. My restriction does change depending on the TOM, weather, stress.
Most doctors say that at restriction you may not be able to eat solids at Breakfast. If you are having trouble eating solids at Breakfast (and it is super early before work) that does'nt shock me. I have Greek yogurt with half a scoop whey isolate and 1/3 cup Kashi Go lean high Protein Cereal and some walnuts for breakfast. The Protein powder and cruncies make for a very thick mushie. I do have a cup of coffee before to loosen things up.
As the day goes by my band does get looser. I would strive for being able to eat solid Protein at lunch (3 oz) and about 1/2 cup veggies and then some fruit (couple grapes or cherries). If you can go 4.5-5 hours before being hungry you are at restriction. Then at dinner measure out your food and don't eat anymore even if you feel you are hungry. Though if you are at restriction you probably really wont be physically hungry; more of a head hunger.
Some people do keep their bands WAY to tight. Can't tell you how many times I've read "I need a fill because I can still eat bread!" I'm at restriction and can eat bread. I just choose not to. Some of this is still about will power. Thin people like to eat junk food. They choose not to.

Sorry I'm going to be a contrarian. A mother who is that concerned about what their child eats would have researched what the child would be fed before committing to that camp. Sounds like this woman was looking for advertising for her group that she founded. Personally I think this kind of behavior is what causes eating disorders. Telling a child certain foods are evil and bad is guaranteed to give them food issues.

Well I guess the question is what kind of event. What I've been up to walking a 5k maybe not. Are you talking about a graduation or a wedding? Probably my biggest concern is will involve food and will there be something there you can eat or will you feel comfortable bringing your own food. I think setting yourself up to have to eat foods you're not allowed just because you have an event to go to would be a bad precedent.

Most doctors submit your original weight. I would only be worried if by loosing weight you become a normal weight. In which case you probably don't need surgery in the first place. My surgery was delayed for 7 months due to other health concerns. I lost 50 pounds, but still was morbidly obese.
This is the time to developed a new relationship with food. A PERMANENT relationship. The band is not a destination, it is the starting line. The band will NEVER stop you from eating candy, ice cream, or doritoes. You have to choose healthy foods.

For those who don't know you can get grilled chicken breast at KFC. Just make sure to pull off the chicken skin. KFC is actually one of my go to places when I'm out and need to eat quickly. Depending on the location some have corn on the cob and green Beans. Still high in salt but the fat content is pretty reasonable.

Remember your body may be different from someone else's. You may need to be on mushies instead of solids. Personally I would back off solids for a while.

Flu season is not yet over. I am a recruiter for a major MA hospital. All my new hires must get the flu shot until the the chief doc declares the season over; and it has been radio silence on that front.

You can normally find healthier options when eating out. May cost you more but such is life. Most fast food places have grilled chicken sandwiches or salads. Just avoid mayo and high fat dressings.< /p>
