Peritonitis Lap Band Removal
Of course there is support here. I'm so sorry for what happened to you and I understand the mourning. Are you eating to comfort yourself? I'm sure that's what I would do because I still haven't learned better ways to comfort myself. Right now I'm depressed because it just keeps snowing and we are snowed in with bored kids and dogs. All I want to do is eat.

tenacious tens-what are your intolerable foods so far
I can't eat anything before noon. It takes me all morn to get my pills down with slim fast. Around noon I can only eat yogurt, applesause etc. By 3 pm I can eat absolutely anything. I'm hungry all aft and eat too much. Night time pills go down with no problem. I wish the restriction could even itself out!

It's working!
Thanks to all of you for giving me hope. I just am not losing...but don't have any restriction after 2pm. Sometimes I read that someone that had surg in Oct lost 45 0r 50 Pounds. Makes me want to cry! And all it does here is snow so we can't get out or go anywhere. I'm so bored and depressed today. Then my grandson comes with his Haloween candy that he had stashed away ond wanted to give it to me and I ate 2 Reeses peanut butter cups. That did NOTHING for my self esteem or mood.

Redeeming my morning coffee
My clinic says that caffiene is a gastric stimulant which means it will cause faster digestion leading to faster hunger. That's why they say no-no. I still have to have a cup every morning. Of course my weight loss has been less than spectacular! I'm not goingg to blame the coffee though. I prefer to blame our 80" of snow keeping me inside most of the time.

Need a little support and encouragment
My goodness Princess Sophie, that's what I call my dog when she's bossy or finicky. No actually we call her Princess Sophia then. Usually she's just Sophie. Hope you aren't insulted. She's pure cuteness. As for you and surgery, It sounds like you would be the perfect canidate. Please understand that it isn't a quick fix though. It can take forever to reach the point of perfect restriction (case in point right here).

Any other slow losers?
Kbinaz, We had our surgery about the same time and have lost about the same amt of weight. I haven't seen the scale move for 2 weeks. I'm trying not to get discouraged.

What do you think???
She was in the wrong...absolutely. If only moms with autistic kids used it it wouldn;t get much use. I think she has some mental problems herself,

Dentures!!!!!!
I got a partial on the top that replaces some back teeth. I got it while I was on mushies and at the time thought that I wouldn't have needed the LB if I had known how I would hate aeting with the partial. I did get used toit eventually but I wish I would have spent more and got the implants. I ddidn't because my dental insurance won't pay for implants and does pay for dentures and partials (half)

Anyone with a band and a Kidney transplant?
I don't have a kidney transplant but I do take a lot of meds. I just break them up and take one every 15 min or so. At night it's easier because I'm not restricted much at night.

question about pain meds
Liquid roxicet in hosp. They sent me home with about a pint...which I never took.

New Guy Here....
Hi Chicago, Welcome to our group. First off, I think your brother needs a fill. He shouldn't be able to eat so much. He isn't using his band like it's intended to be used. . The you do enough reading here you will learn that this is a slow process....slow and steady if the fills are kept up. The bypass is much faster and if you need to loose a lot fast, that might be your best option. I think a couple years down the road it all evens out but the lapband takes a lot of committment and work. Good luck with what ever you do. And talk to that brother of yours about getting a fill.

my story of frustration, restriction, and confusion
There are some real good answers to this question. I will try to find one and copy it for you since I wondered about the same thing. OK I found it. Here goes: This is from Kat "This is my understanding---we are encouraged to chew our food to mush so that it can pass through the stoma slowly---when we fail to chew well enough, then we get things stuck. Other times you can chew, and it is just the nature of the food to ball up, as in breads or foods with a high gluten content---they dough back up as they break down---so can turn into a giant ball of dough, which is difficult to pass through. If we chew our small bites to a slurry texture, then it is heavy enough to move slowly, and allow our pouches to feel full---and yet it is able to move through---without becoming stuck. When you chew it properly, and drink too soon, it simply liquifies everything and allows it to move through to quickly to feel full. I don't know if you have ever used a cake decorating bag or not, but I kind of see it the same way. The frosting is soft, and easily moves out of the bag, but it must be squeezed, it does not just flow through if it is the right consitency. But when you squeeze it down to the tip, it goes through. When we put food into our stomachs--or the pouch, it automatically begins digesting---kneading and moving the food around to break it down for digestion---much like we would squeeze the bag of icing. Now if we toss something in the frosting, that does not easily fit through the tip---it stops up everything. They tapered shape does not allow it to roll back up out of the way, it is simply stuck, until it either breaks down, or is removed---or in the case of our stomachs, it is stuck until is either breaks down, or is PB'd. Sorry for the lack of technical explanation---this is just the best way I can visualize what I want to do with my band, and the food going into it. You are almost half way -- good job!!! Kat"

In between surgery and first fill
I pretty much stayed the same after the first week. It's taken 3 fills to get a little restriction. In the morning I am really tight and it takes forever to get my meds down. By dinner time I think I could eat a whole pizza.

Newbie want to say hi and document my journey
Welcome Luuu.I have found lots of health professionals who know nothing about Lapband. My dentist was very interested and asked millions of questions. My PCP had heard a little about it and knew it wasn't the same as lapband but not much about fills, diets etc.

I can be prejudiced too
I think there are two different issues. You don't have to respect anyone who doesn't earn your respect. BUT you can still treat everyone with respect. As a nurse I have had all sorts of experience with filthy (and filthy mouths-minds) people and I certainly didn't respect them but I tried hard to treat them with respect.

Medicare
I t isn't so much if the Dr will accept medicare as it is, does medicare approve of the Dr. The clinic has to be certified as a "Center of Excellence" in bariatric surgery for medicare to pay. They work hard to get the certification so if they tell you they don't accept medicare, they are just not admitting that they aren't good enough for medicare to pay. Please join us on the sixties thread.

Family tells me what to eat and do!!!
Say "I'm doing just what my Dr wants me to" and smile sweetly. After about 100 times she should take the hint (maybe)

Scales (at home)...are any very accurate?
I like mine. It's a Weight Watchers and I got it at Walgreens.
