  1. Happy Bday Wheetsin. I loved the idea of wrapping it up and giving it to him for his Bday. It's clear he wants it. Actually he sounds like a dear man. My ex celebrated all the birthdays in the family...in fact in the state of Wi, sitting in the local bar getting sloshed.
  2. Had to wait 6 weeks for the 1st, then 4 weeks, then 4 weeks again. Now if I need another it will be 4 weeks. Our clinic wants to see us every 4 weeks regardless. I think that's an excellent idea.
  3. I guess what none of us realize when we get banded is that the surgery it's self isn't what makes us thin. There is nothing there untill after we get enough fills to give good restriction. For some, that's just 1. For others it's several. Just hang in there and be patient and follow the rulses and your day will come! HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Wow, Tina You look great and so do they. How lucky for you to get to meet them.
  5. You don't say if you live close to the border and can drive to Mexico or if you have to fly. I would think it would be just as expensive to be flying back and forth as it would be to get a Dr closer to you.
  6. Yikes.....I better not tell you what I think!
  7. I think if I could've done the raw diet I wouldn't have needed the band. It's such a good way to lose weight but who can stick to it?
  8. Kefirchick, I could have written your letter. I know exactaly what you are feeling!
  9. There are so many people over 65 that have WLS and medicare even pays for it. Was that her PCP that said that or did she see a WLS surgeon? I would advise her to look further into it and to read the board on here for the people 60 and older. We all have health problems. That's one of the main reasons for having the surgery at this age!
  10. The hospital I was at wouldn't let me leave alone or in a cab. I had to call my sister to come and get me. That was just their policy. You might want to check with your hosp. I think you will be fine alone. I spent 48 hours sleeping, sipping, walking, sleeping.....was happy to be alone. You won't need help with anything unless you do now. You will just be tired and a bit uncomfortable.
  11. Hi Joann, Medicare pays if you go to a center of excellence so be sure you ask if they are before you start working with any Dr. They don't pay all of it but my AARP supplemental ins. pays the rest and yes, they pay for fills etc. There was no wait for medicare to ok it but it was a 6 mos process getting all the pre=op tests etc done. Good luck
  12. Wow, I'm impressed and jealous.....but happy for you.
  13. After surgery my Dr told me I had one and he fixed it. I didn't know before then.
  14. My dog Sophie, doesn't know she's a dog. She has always slept with me. Our cat gives her a kitty bath every morning and she loves it. She loves the snow and comes in all covered with little snowballs. She was hard to house break and was a yr old before she was trustworthy. Oh well, I love all 8 pounds of her.
  15. Hi Aggie, Good for you. You are in a great field. Never a shortage of jobs. 2 years ago our family was in cabins in northern Wi on vacation when my sister had a cardiac arrest right in front of me. No one else knew how to do cpr but they learned fast! I was only 3 mos post op from knee surgery and started the cpr but showed other family members how because it felt like my knees were on fire from kneeling. We had to keep it up for 20 min before first responders came with an AED and got a rhythm. Then an ambulance came about 10 min later and took her to the hosp and then she was airlifted to a largr hosp. She arrested 5 more times the next 2 days but she is alive and well (but terribly over weight) I think that was the happiest I've ever been to be in the medical field. You just never know when your experience will be needed.
  16. I drink choc slim fast every morning and I'm actually sorta tired of choc. Never thought I would say that!
  17. Hi Sams46 aka Sharon, I guess that was a popular name back in the day. There were 4 in my nursing class of 21. Welcome to this site. Keep us updated on your progress.
  18. Accordigal, What a cute little dog. Is it a maltese? My little Sophie is maltese/bichon
  19. Hi Holly, Janet, Beth, Hot Mama, I am right there with you. Can't get anything down in the am . By night when I should just go to sleep I'm starving and could eat everything in the house. However you gals have done better in the losing dept. Hopefully we'll all figure out how to work this thing. I wouldn't mind eating the same thing everyday if I could just figure out what would work.
  20. I'm so tight in the morning and so loose at night. I have to come up with a way to adjust my eating pattern to this. I've been having a slimfast for breakfast and I'm still hungry but anything thicker gets stuck. By bedtime I could eat anything as long as it's well chewed. Any ideas?
  21. Do you have any protien bullets? They are clear flavored protien. You can dilute them in your water or use them to replace some of your water in jello. Not delicious, but better than starvation.
  22. I wasn't self pay and Iam still horrifeid. For one thing, those are the kind of people who lower the stats on the band working, thus making it less likely that insurance companies will pay in the future. I would have had a hard time keeping my mouth shut!
  23. Here's something I think you can relate to: >What Made Me.....Me > >Long ago and far away........In a land that time forgot, >Before the days of Dylan,.....Or the dawn of Camelot. >There lived a race of innocents....And they were you and me, >Long ago and far away.........In the Land That Made Me Me. > >For Ike was in the White House...In that land where we were born, >Where navels were for oranges.....And Peyton Place was porn. >We learned to gut a muffler.......We washed our hair at dawn, >We spread our crinolines to dry...........In circles on the lawn. >We longed for love &romance......And waited for our Prince, >And Eddie Fisher married Liz....And no one's seen him since. >We danced to "Little Darlin".....And Sang to "Stagger Lee" >And cried for Buddy Holly......... In the Land That Made Me Me. > >Only girls wore earrings then......... And 3 was one too many, >And only boys wore flat-top cuts.....Except for Jean McKinney. >And only in our wildest dreams.........Did we expect to see >A boy named George with Lipstick......In the Land That Made Me Me. > >We fell for Frankie Avalon,......Annette was oh, so nice, >And when they made a movie.......They never made it twice. >We didn't have a Star Trek Five.....Or Psycho Two &Three, >Or Rockey-Rambo Twenty...... In the Land That Made Me Me. > >Miss Kitty had a heart of gold........And Chester had a limp, >And Reagan was a Democrat.......Whose co-star was a chimp. >We had a Mr. Wizard........But not a Mr. T, >And Oprah couldn't talk yet............In the Land That Made Me Me. > >We had our share of heroes........We never thought they'd go, >At least not Bobby Darin...........................Or Marilyn Monroe. >For youth was still eternal.........And life was yet to be, >And Elvis was forever...............In the Land That Made Me Me. > >We'd never seen the rock band......That was Grateful to be Dead, >And Airplanes weren't named Jefferson .....And Zeppelins were not Led. >And Beatles lived in gardens then.......And Monkees lived in trees, >Madonna was a virgin................In the Land That Made Me Me. > >We'd never heard of microwaves.......Or telephones in cars, >And babies might be bottle-fed......But they weren't grown in jars. >And pumping Iron got wrinkles out.....And "gay" meant fancy-free, >And dorms were never coed...........In the Land That Made Me Me. > >We hadn't seen enough of jets.....To talk about the lag, >And microchips were what was left.....At the bottom of the bag. >And Hardware was a box of nails.....And bytes came from a flea, >And rocket ships were fiction.........In the Land That Made Me Me. > >Buick's came with portholes...... And side shows came with freaks, >And bathing suits came big enough.....To cover both your cheeks. >And Coke came just in bottles......And skirts came to the knee, >And Castro came to power..........In the Land That Made Me Me. > >We had no Crest with Fluoride......We had no Hill Street Blues, >We all wore superstructure bras.....Designed by Howard Hughes. >We had no patterned pantyhose.....Or Lipton herbal tea >Or prime-time ads for condoms.......In the Land That Made Me Me. > >There were no golden arches.......No Perrier to chill, >And fish were not called Wanda.....And cats were not called Bill. >And middle-aged was 35........And old was forty-three, >And ancient were our parents........In the Land That Made Me Me. > >But all things have a season.....Or so we've heard them say, >And now instead of Maybelline.....We swear by Retin-A. >And they send us invitations..........To join AARP, >We've come a long way, baby.......From the Land That Made Me Me. > >So now we face a brave new world.....In slightly larger jeans, >And wonder why they're using.......Smaller print in magazines. >And we tell our children's children.....Of the way it used to be, >Long ago and far away.......In the Land That Made Me Me......... > > >
  24. When I have a fill, I lay down on a bed with a pillow under my loyer back, The Dr freezes the area and a few minutes later injects the saline into the port, puts a bandaid on it in case it bleeds and helps me sit up, Then I drink a glass of water to be sure I'm not too tight. Then i leave. No discomfort at all and I can eat right after. Different Drs do it differently and some people have to do liquids for a day or so after. Hope thar's some help.
