Totally Blind, Considering Lap Band
I'll tell you what scares me. Getting so big that I can't take care of myself. Being in a nursing home unable to wash my self, caregivers hating me because I'm killing their backs (I've been one of those care givers) Being unable to wipe my own butt, having little kids point at me, having teenagers giggle about me, having adults ignore me, needing 10 EMTs to get me in the ambulance (I've been one of those EMTs) and needing 10 strong pall bearers to carry my casket. If you get diabetes you will need needles and finger pricks several times a day. The pain and agony you can end up going through from all the co-morbiditys of obesity versus a couple little needle picks is like comparing a grain of sand to a gravel pit!

Susan, I have trouble with my pills in the morning when I'm tight. What I just started is to take all my pills that I only take once a day, in the late aft when I can swallow the easiest. Now I have only 1 big one to take in the AM. The little ones go down OK. That seems to be working out well.

For those who suffer from anxiety
See your Dr. Some antidepressants also help anxiety. Paxil does. He can't help you if he doesn't know what you need.

Urge to pee?
Are you on any narcotic pain meds? Sometimes that will happen with narcotics.

Do you ever worry you'll be ugly afterwards?
Look at the before and after pictures on here. That should put your mind to rest! Some of the gals were plain before and ended up gorgeous. Every body looks younger and happier. Don't worry. You'll love your new look.

Karen aka lkgrubb, You did such a good job on our list of geriatric members but I think it needs up dating . We seem to be picking up more members all the time. Could you update it again. It would be nice if we had the state we are from there too. Oh and bra size (just kidding)

fibromyalgia
I have fibro too. I get accupuncture treatments. I think they help. It's hard to stay off NSAIDs. Also makes it hard to exercise. The only thing I can do is water exercise. I'm sure loosing weight will help. Sure can't hurt!

Welcome to our site SusieQ. I'm so sorry that you lost your Husband. I lost my oldest son 2 years ago and really piled on the weight after that. For the dizzieness, drink more fluids. You might want to drink some gator aid or broth so you get all the electrlytes you need. There is a food section here that has recipes and ideas for every stage of the process. Hope you can find and get some ideas.

Negative people with negative feelings
Sometimes it's best not to tell ppl . I wish I wouldn't have. I feel like everyone is waiting for me to lose a noticable amt of wt. and it's been so slow due to lack of restriction.

Do you buy any clothes while your weight is transitioning down?
I'm really lucky because my daughter is a size smaller than I am and I can borrow her clothes. Now she is doing WW and she has gone down a size so I got her old wardrobe. Luclily for her she still had her "skinny" clothes packed away so she has been finding things to wear. I'm going to buy her a special occasion outfit that I like because I know it will eventually be mine

My Hair!!!!????

Lap Banding and Medicare
Hi Markie, You didn't say which sharon you were addressing (there are at least 3 of us) but I will answer. Yes, they pre approved surgery. I don't know about the overnight stay. My Dr said that I might go home the same day but He would see how I did after surgery. I don't think he would say that if he knew medicare wouldn't pay....and he is very up on insurance and medicare. He runs the support group for the bariatric clinic and I've heard him answer hundreds of insurance questions. Anyway I had to stay because of low 02 levels so I'm not 100% sure Also I don't believe medicare requires the 6 mos diet but maybe your surgeon does. Hope I've been some help with my wishy washy answers. :crying:

Help! Thick liquid stage...
Just throw anything you want into your blender, magic bullet or food processer Thin it down if you have to. It should be thin enough to run slowly off the spoon.

Finally approved and have surgery date
Congratulations and good luck with your surgery. Keep us updated on your progress.

Pre Op Diet Experiences
Hi Gordan, I think most of us have to do that 2 week diet before hand to "shrink the liver". I agree that it's probably partly to get you used to eating a certain way. As far as yogurt, you are the first person I have heard of that was told to just eat yogurt. Many of us were put on protien drinks and some on clear liquids. Yogurt sounds better to me. But being realistic, you could shrink your liver just as well if you threw in some green veggies and lean protien. After surgery it is important to stay on liquids or semi liquids but I can't imagine why it would be important before. Now I'm going to get all kinds of flack from other bandsters for saying that. I'm running away:)

My passive-aggressive mother.
I think she is feeling left out of your brother's life. Some Moms just can't let go. Sounds like you are doing everything right. Hang in there.

In the morning
I consider myself tight because I can't eat solids. But I have no problem drinking a protien shake or slimfast and a cup of coffee. Since I didn't have any solids to wash down I slowly drink at least 2 glasses of water before lunch.
