  1. Today my husband had an appointment in downtown Boston. We never go there even though I live about 10-15 miles from there. If you know Boston there is a real tourist trap for non-stop eating, QUINCY MARKET. Very famous place since the beginning of our wonderful country. My idea to go walk around and have lunch. After walking up and down and looking at pizza, ice cream, candy, Italian pastries, clam chowda, lobster and other goodies, I had a very boring salad. I was good. Hub had a chicken & cheese Philly sub with fries. After we went walking around and my idea, again, we stopped at the Boston Chip Yard. Fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies. They are small and I did eat 4 of them over an hour. I was bad. About 32 years ago we had a push cart at Quincy Market in front of the Chip Yard and Carmel Corn popcorn. I ate both every day and at closing the Carmel Corn people would give us the left overs for free. I didn't see them today, happy about that. If you ever visit Boston this is wonderful place to visit, they have street entertainment, tours, Old Ironsides isn't too far away and the wonderful Aquarium is near there too. That is today's tour of Boston and eating. Enjoy your weekend. Arlene
  2. That is wonderful to be able to find your own green zone.
  3. I have been married 42 1/2 years. I get for no reason gifts. I once mentioned I wanted a diamond wedding band, he surprised me with one! You never know.
  4. you are a very sweet man. Lucky wife and husband, works both ways.
  5. i would call your dietitian about the Chia seeds/nuts. I never have anything without asking first. Go over your menu with someone, see if you are doing something different. Have you been exercising? I have been within the same 4 pounds since February and my surgeon is thrilled with my loss.
  6. Good for you. I love your words and how you use them. Don't give up BBQs or weddings etc. Go, just have fun without thinking about the food. I go to everything and properly. I am Jewish and in September I was only banded a few months and went to a New Year's break the fast buffet. I ate perfectly and didn't think about other people and had a nice evening out. My son does Texas BBQ catering, I eat his food, just a small amount of what I know I can have. I am going to my brother's for Father's Day. Don't give up your life. Arlene
  7. Good luck. I am from Boston and had to have at least 3 visits with the dietitian before the insurance would allow the band. They were 1 month apart. Because of the hospital being taken over by a bigger one it took me 10 months for the surgery to happen and that was with getting pushed through the system. Every hospital is different with their requirements.
  8. Wonderful! I have always said I didn't get fat in one year and I expect it to take 1 1/2-2 years to get to a livable weight. I know it's a tool, not a cure all. I love when you share your thoughts with us. Thank you.
  9. feel better. at least you're in the right place.
  10. I knew when I started this whole venture/journey that it took years to get fat and I planned on it taking 1-2 years to get to a livable weight that I would be comfortable with for my age. I had chosen 170 for a goal and then thought maybe lighter than that and when I saw my doctor 1 week ago he said he is thrilled with me now, 60% of my BMI gone. When I got married 42 1/2 years ago I was 144 (with diet pills) and that was a nice size for me, I think. Take one day at a time and one pound at a time. It may take over 1 year to get to the magic number for you.
  11. Dark urine is also from not enough liquids. Better check, is right. Also about shakes, I was given one before I left the hospital to make sure I could keep it down. I am very happy you are feeling better today. Each day will get better.
  12. Congratualtions on being banded. Use a heating pad for the gas pains, it does help. The gas pains lasted about 3-4 days with me. Good luck with your new journey.
  13. How is your mother now? MRSA is so bad.
  14. Surgeries going wrong/bad has been a topic lately. This can happen with any kind of procedures done by the top doctors and hospitals. About 3-4 years ago my dermatologist didn't like a small mole I had. I went to a top Boston hospital to have it removed. Because it was under the belly fat they had to tape my fat belly. I don't do well with tape and got tape burns, aloe took care of that. The mole was removed and I got an infection from the incision. The infection turned into MRSA (I hope I spelled it right). It took 3-4 different antibiotics until the right one was found to get me healed. I was at the hospital every 2-3 days to have them look at it. My husband had to clean it for me 2-3 times a day with saline and medicines. That was suppose to be a no brainer removal. So you just never know. I have had zero problems with the BAND!! Everyone is different. Please stop knocking the Band, I love it, it helps me be under control of my intakes etc. Yesterday I had a stuck moment, it sucks when that happens. I walked and then burped and was fine. My fault, not the band, it just reminds me to be more perfect. No one is perfect. Enjoy your weekend everyone. Stay dry-Boston is heavy rain for the next 24 hours. Arlene aka Eye Candy

  18. You have a wonderful husband but you must be wonderful too. Works both ways. Thank you for the massage lesson. I am happy you're feeling better from them. Did you ask your insurance if they cover them? I know in MA some companies do when for medical problems.
  19. So today I went to the dietitian and then the doctor. Went well. The doctor said I have lost 60% of my fat and he wished all his patients lost that much. I was banded July 30th, so it is 10 months ago. He said if I stay at this weight the rest of my life, he will be happy. I want to lose more but don't know how much. I did not have a fill today. I was told I have 1.8 in my band and that was 3 fills. My doctor does slow and it works. I am down 10 pounds since February and he was fine with that. I have bad allergies and so I bought Walgreen's children's liquid and the sugar in it has given me stomach problems. The doctor told me to try swallowing the small pills I have and said the worse thing is I will throw it up. I don't need to see the doctor for 2 months. I feel wonderful about today's visits. Everyone have a wonderful weekend. Arlene

I wish you and hub lots of luck with trying again. About gaining, you can control it. My DIL had a son 6 months ago. Max was 1 month early and weighed over 6 lbs. and my DIL watched everything because she has medical issues and she gained 11 lbs. When Max was 2 weeks DIL was wearing her jeans again. Keep us posted and we are all cheering you on!!!!!!!
  21. I meant to tell you before, very pretty picture.
  22. I like that you said you kept 52 pounds off longer than 10. What a wonderful way of looking at any weight loss. Thanks.
  23. I could have written the yo-yo part. Since February's fill I am down about 10 lbs but that changes daily within 2-4 pounds, too. I see the doctor Friday, but I am down. I figured this weight loss would take about 1 1/2-2 years. I have as a goal 170 but may want to be less. When I got married 42 1/2 years ago I was 144 with diet pills. During high school I was around 160-175, I think. Too many years ago to remember that weight. Sizes are weird. I wear a size 14 bottom and xl top at 191.6. In high school I was at least 20 pounds lighter and wore that size or a 16. The clothes manufacturers are playing mind games on us with sizes. I know my face is thinner, being 62, I see more wrinkles and I hate them but hub says beats being fat, He's right, just need lots of money for face lift, body lift etc. Great blog today, thanks. Arlene
  24. Congratulations on your weight loss. I feel sad you're not happy. Maybe call your doctor's office and they have some one to talk to about this. There are obesity therapists. When my son was around 10ish we took him to one because he has been over weight almost his whole life (he is 34 now) and he is finally doing something on his own. Good luck and stay in touch with all of us.

MILs are also mothers. A friend's mother told me that about 40 years ago. I am a MIL to 2 women, one I think loves me and the other goes for the ride. She lived with us for 10 months and we didn't get along too well but then there were 4 of them, 2 cats and I have a 2 bedroom townhouse condo, so it was small for 6 of us. As for weight lost, my husband is the only person I tell, that way no one can criticize me. A dear friend asked recently and I said I don't share that and her look was priceless. The scale is just numbers, a tape measure really tells it the best and clothes falling off. Relax and don't worry about MIL, we are really trying to be nice and want our momma-boys to be happy and well taken care of.
