Focus.. it's such a lonely word...
When my father was alive and my mother insisted on keeping him home I found wonderful services with the city of Boston. That was where they lived then. Based on income I got a person to bath my father 3 times a week and for 2-3 hours a week someone to clean the house. It really helped my mother. My mother was 87 almost 88 then. Today when I saw my mother she asked if I was her oldest daughter, I am her only one and the youngest of 3. Dementia really sucks. Good luck and accept all the help you can get. Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!!!

What do you mean I get no candy for Valentines Day

Focus.. it's such a lonely word...
I feel very bad about your father. My mother is almost 95 and had to be put in a nursing home. It was hard for us for she was the care taker of my retarded brother. My mother has dementia. She is near where my brother lives. We refer to my mother's room as her apartment and she is doing ok. She knows her 3 children and knows her grandson's faces but has no idea what their names are. It is very hard. She hates to change her clothes and take showers. That is what nursing homes are for. I am Jewish and my mother was never into going to temple. She now goes to Friday night services and takes her black friend with her. It is better for her. It will kill you because it kills me that my mother who was the world's greatest cook and baker doesn't recall any of that. She doesn't remember where she lived for 46 years. It is very hard. I am here if you need help with this. I wish your father well. Arlene

Battle
My weight isn't as low as I thought it would be either. My highest was in March and I was banded the end of July. Since the band I am down 40lbs. I don't think that is super but it beats a gain. Since March I am down 68 total. Before the band I gave up breakfast foods for a protein shake and that helped me lose weight and I became more aware since seeing the dietitian for pre surgery. The band is a slower process than other WLS and that is why I chose it and also I didn't like the sounds of the others, too drastic for.I have been around 199-203 for 2-3 months now. I see the doctor Friday for another fill. But I have joined a gym and do some weight type machines. Who knows Just remember, any lose is wonderful even if an once.

Being healthy doesn't always matter!
Cheryl, you're too young to have lost so many young people in your life. I was with a cousin today who has small cell lung cancer. Being a nurse maybe you have heard of it. You die within 6-12 months. He is trying to live life to his fullest. Good luck finding your new home. The prices in FL are very low. I live in extremely expensive Boston.

great quote I stole
I watched the end of The Biggest Loser and the man voted off said, I did not want another man to raise my son. I loved that. I don't want another woman with my husband or her wearing my jewelry and being grammie to my grandsons. So I can quote him too. I now know I am doing something to keep me around longer. Enjoy your day. Have a happy Fat Tuesday to all who celebrate.

Just wanted to brag:)
That is super. Every once I celebrate. I love the gym and never thought I would.

FAST FOOD
Happy birthday to all your family members. My son has not been plowed out yet so I hope he makes it to his own party.

FAST FOOD
Am I the only Bandster that hates fast food? my grandsons always want it and I always take them to sit down restaurants because I think fast food tastes awful. At McDonald's the only thing I would eat are salt free fries. I don't use salt. to me fast food is pizza and we have a love story. I can't go without pizza. That is one thing I have to have. I know it's not the best to eat but I was told there are no, no foods by my dietitian. tomorrow my son will be 38 and his wife is having a surprise party at a pub and ordering appetizers. I don't know if I will eat any of them, though but I will be there to celebrate with everyone. Have a great Sunday everyone.

I had my first slime incident, and now I no what it's like!
Hi, I don't know about your doctor but I can only take chewables or liquid.I was told never swallow pills. Maybe check again with your doctor. Good luck.

Thankful for my health
Thank you for doing your wonderful job. I thank the people at my mother's nursing home all the time. she has dementia but knows her 3 children. She knows the faces of her grandsons but not their names. She sometimes remembers my father and they were married for 67 years when he died. My mother will be 95 in July and my oldest brother and I wish she would just close her eyes. Enough is enough. There should be a pill.

BRAS
they only asked for bras. You bring them to your local Soma store. That I can't help you with. I know my local one is about 5 miles from my house. Giving your clothes to Hospice is wonderful of you.

It's my life lesson!
Wonderful. When I started at the gym in December, I could only do the bike for 5 minutes and now 25-30 minutes. We all start slow. My son last night told me the bike is a waste and to do the elliptical even if I only do a few minutes and work it up. A trainer at the gym also told me the bike is a waste. Because of knee and back troubles I can never use a treadmill. My husband does it. Have fun at the gym.

Discouraged
you didn't say you were from the Boston area. So of course it will be hard to get a doctor to talk to this weekend but then they may be on call. Be safe in this storm. I live south shore, Randolph.

Discouraged
When in doubt-call the doctor. This has not happened to me. The doctors are there with all the answers even on weekends. Good luck.

BRAS
Good afternoon from blizzard Boston. In the local paper there was an article from Soma Intimates. They said that when women that leave their abusive person they usually forget bras. So Soma is collecting used and new bras for DOVE. I know having lost weight I have many large sized bras. Maybe some of you do to and we can all donate them. Enjoy your TGIF.

Learned something new....
One of my many dietitians said that you need to increase calories, also. I do about 1200-1300 a day with 100g of protein. I try to go to the gym everyday but lately it's been 4 times a week. I understand because my weight has not changed for 2 months but the inches have.

a new WLS
They showed it and explained it on tv. If you go to Night Line's site I am sure you can see how gross it is. I have never did the fingers down the throat. That to me is too gross.
-
a new WLS
While most of you were sleeping I turned on Night Line around 12:30am and they talked about a new WLS, something Aspire. They hook up a device onto your stomach and 20 minutes after you eat your meal you hook up a vacuum type device to your stomach thing and it empties your stomach contents into the toilet. How gross is this? My husband said it is like throwing up. It is being used in Europe and tested in the US. They did mention the Band, Bypass and the Sleeve and said the Aspire is less invasive. Never would I ever think of something that gross. I had an appointment with the doctor tomorrow for a fill but Boston is getting a blizzard so it is now next week. I am happy about that because my oldest son is turning 38 Sunday and we are going out for dinner. Now I can eat and not just have a hot tea. Have a super day everyone. Time for food shopping and the gym. Arlene

Starchy carbs and why we don't need them
I eat all of them. But in much smaller quantity than I ever did. I would go out for dinner and eat a basket of bread and ask for more. I now only have a small portion and it makes me happy. For lunch I had mashed potatoes but since there was skin on them I had maybe 2-3 forkfuls. I was satisfied with that small amount. I see my doctor for fill and dietitian on Friday. A new dietitian for me.

Two week check up!
Great news! When I had my band I couldn't go in a pool for 6 weeks. You are lucky. I was banded 7/29 and have a pool at my condo and couldn't go in.(:.

fish oil
I saw my PCP today and went over my meds etc. She said that about 6 months ago a study said that there is no evidence that fish oil helps against heart health. I see my WLS doctor Friday and I am also going to ask him. Has anyone heard of this? I have been taking fish oil gummies since the Band in July. Have great Tuesday everyone.

Bad Night. feeling down doesnt begin to cover it..
Everyone is right, people are just mean. I am very proud of you for eating those cookies. See your day was not all hell.Your friends should have turned off the chat and /or stuck up for you but being that you are 21 they still need to grow up a bit. At 21 I don't know what I would have done about sticking up for someone. Smile, one day you will be that thinner you and maybe help some over weight person in need.
