  1. I also have United Health Care but I think it depends on each seperate policy. The first time I called them they said I did not have bariatric surgery. I spoke to my HR dept beccause I had already done 5 months of my 6 month diet and they switch insurance companies. HR informed me that the person was wrong and we did have coverage. So to make sure I called UHC back again and that person told me we did have coverage and read me all the criteria. Also the girl at my surgeons office called them and got the criteria too. SO you just need to check with the insurance or have the doctors office check for you. If you don't get the answer you want then check again. Good luck making your decision I know it is a tough one, I almost changed my mind at the last minute. So glad I didn't.
  2. Jessica, The band is not and easy fix, it still takes work and self control. You will have a pre-op diet and a post-op diet, it takes lots of willpower when you are back on solid food because you will need a few fills before you have restriction. Good luck on your decision. The band is a great tool but you still have to do the work.
  3. That is not very much. My powder has 22 and I add it to skim milk which has 8 so I have 30 grams. I have one every morning and it gets my day started with a good amount of Protein. If you like premixed, the Premier Protein that is advertised on here is good and has 30 grams.
  4. I lived on Diet Dr Pepper and Dt A&W Rootbeer. Quite honestly it wasn't that hard to stop. I think once you get your mind around the idea it is easier. It is just what needs to be done to make this a successful journey.
  5. The nutritionalist at my doctors office has a field trip to the grocery store every couple months.
  6. Congrats and thanks for sharing!
  7. My doctor said, only drink soda it if you let it go flat first (no bubbles).
  8. Had my surgery Wed and went back to work Monday with no proplems. (desk job)
  9. I had my first "have you lost weight" yesterday. One of the best feelings every! Congrats to you!

  11. I had my first fill today and I feel great. Soup for dinner and liquids tomorrow. Small price to pay. I would also like to say I love this site!
  12. I have no advise on the port but thanks for the laugh. The chicken timer cracked me up! Congrats on the weight loss, awesome.
  13. I had pizza Saturday night, I did not take the toppings off the crust BUT I did cut it in very small pieces and it was a thin crust.
  14. Ask you doctor for anti-nausea meds. If you can't take a pill they come in suppositories.
  15. Until you get restriction it is a matter of will power. You have yo be able to say no to things that are bad for you, We have all geen thru this and you can to. Have you been to a support group? That might help.
  16. My doctor said "do not let anyone wait on you, get up yourself and move, you will feel much better faster". Although a little spoiling is great, you need to keep moving. The more you move, the better you will feel.
  17. You will find a lot of support and information on this site. Good luck on your journey.
  18. I was told no lifting over 20 lbs. But as fas as excercise if it hurts stop, otherwise your good.
  19. I just want to add that you need to be careful who you tell, once it is out there you can not take it back. I made sure the people I told knew this was not to be repeated, this is my story to tell to those I choose. I was very lucky that I did not get any bad feed back only support. If you are staying in your own cabin and only sharing one meal a day you should be fine.
  20. I would say 60 lbs in 6 months is wonderful! Congrats to you!
  21. They wanted to schedule my surgery one week before we had a cruise booked. I told them it would have to be after the cruise. Glad I did. I was not in pain a week after surgery but would not want to be on liquids on a vacation. My doctor had us on two weeks liquids and two weeks mushies. It might be hard if you have not told your family, they will question what you eat. I have only told 4-5 people that are close to me, I get the not sharing thing. Good luck on your decision.
  22. I take a multi viatmin and I just got Caltrate soft chews today because I needed more calcium. They come in vanilla and chocolate, I got the chocolate and they are a great chocolate fix.
  23. My doctors orders where no lying down at least 30 minutes after eating.
  24. My doctor said fluid is fluid, just get enough. She also said try to stay away from caffeine. Since no soda and I don't drink coffee, I have really cut back but I still have a glass or two of ice tea everyday.
