Sooo Confused
RunningScared, Wanting to set a good example for your child is a good thing not a bad thing. Sholitxmom, I am sorry I do not live in your area but hang in there. We have just started this journey and it is a slow process. I have heard several people get depressed after Lap Band surgery. Have you asked your doctor about support groups? My doctor has a list of some in our area. Good luck to you and your daughter.

Would Really Like To Have A Buddy/ Mentor!
Ashley, Try crushed ice in the shakes. I throw some crushed ice in when I blend and it helps so much. Also, I could not stand them with water, I use fat free/skim milk and that also helps. Some doctors allow milk and some don't.

Gas Pain!!!
Walk, walk, walk and take gas-x to help the gas. If you had a hiatal hernia repair you may get some diaphram pain too. As for the port, my surgeon told me it can be sensitive to lay on for 3-4 weeks. Although I could lay on mine after 4 days.

Swallowing Pills After Surgery?
I tried crushing and mixing in applesauce, YUK! I use a pill cuter and cut my larger pills in half, some even in quarters. I have one capsule that I open and empty on to a spoon of applesauce. Most can be cut or opened, if it is not scored just ask the pharmacist.

Sleep Study/cpap Machine For Surgery?
Lappyloo, If you haven't had the sleep test you don't even know if you need the machine. I had to take my machine to the hospital but they never used it. Good Luck.

Frustrated!
That is the exact reason I only told 5 people, my husband, my son & daughter-in-law (I would never have any surgery with out tell them), my sister and my friend. I don't have people at work watching me because they don't know, the ones I eat lunch with think I am on a Protein diet. Which I am! People just do not understand what it is like to be 100 lbs over weight. It is easy for them because they have never been there. I hope you find some good support, my husband has been behind me all the way. Don't get to upset with Granny, she is from the old school and just does not understand. Good luck on your journey, it looks like you're going right down that to do list.

My Surgery Induced A Shingles Outbreak!
This is going to sound really crazy. I friend of mine told me when she had shingles they covered them in Listerine (yes the mouthwash) and they healed up much faster. Sounds crazy but I have heard crazier. Hope you feel better soon!

Frustrated
We all need to vent sometimes, I would be very upset also. The doctor was not very professional. He should have made it clear before your surgery what was expected and what you should do post-op. My doctors instuctions after surgery were two weeks of liquids, two weeks of mushies and then start solids after 4 weeks post-op. I know if you feel great and are healing it is hard to understand but your body needs to heal inside as well as out. Don't eat just to get back at your doctor you are only hurting yourself and not him. Sorry you got such an uncaring doctor and staff, hopefully things will get better for you.

Are Fills Mandatory!!?
Not with my doctor, I was banded 4/25/2012 and I have an appt for a first fill 6/5/12 and a second fill on 7/23/12. Six weeks after surgery and another 6 weeks after that. I am fairly new to this too but from what I have read fills are not mandatory but are necessary to get to the "green zone".

Pre-Op Appt. Today..on Liquids 3 Days Now...
Lilbelly, Yes, I did loose most of my weight on liquids, pre-op and post-op liquids. I started mushies last Wed 5/09 but I am trying to only weigh once a week. I will know Wednesday night how I am doing on the mushies. I have my first fill scheduled for June 5th.

Food And Drinks
I got my protein powder from my doctors office prior to surgery. Since then I heard people talking about the Premier Protein shakes that you see advertised on this forum. I think they taste like chocolate milk and they fill me up.

Pre-Op Appt. Today..on Liquids 3 Days Now...
I was also starving on liquids, I am now on soft foods or mushies. My stomach hasn't stopped growling since my surgery 4/25/2012. I could have fat free popsicles and fat free Jello on my liquids. The jello was the one thing that sort of filled me up. Good luck to you on your journey. AND remember the liquids don't last forever, you will move on.

Hospital
I had the choice of staying overnight or leaving. I had surgery at 11:00 am and went home at 7:00 pm. I had some pain that was relieved with the pain meds. I believe you are more comfortable at home in your own bed.

Banded Plication And Vacation 7 Days Later
I had a cruise planned when they called me with my surgery date which was one week before the cruise. Although I had to postpone my surgery a month I am still very glad I did that. I enjoyed the cruise had a great time and started my pre-op diet when I returned. If I had went after the surgery I do not think It would have been as enjoyable. You have to decide what is right for you but I am very happy I took the vacation and postponed the surgery.

Hello
Hi Cristal, Just my opion but I think you should set your goal at whatever makes you comfortable. I weighed 277 at my highest after talking to my doctor we decided 100 lbs was a good goal. So I set my goal at 175, WHEN I get to 175 I can always set a new goal if I think I need too. You can do the same, so set that goal where you you feel you need it you can always change if you choose. Good luck on your journey.

First Step - Consultation
I had a sleep study and I went to the hospital at 9:00 pm, they have you get in PJ's and then they stick wires all over your head. You just go to sleep like you would do at home but they monitor you while you sleep. It does not hurt, it is not uncomfortable. Hope that helps. Good luck on your journey.

Newbie To The Band
I know exactly how you feel and that is the same reason I chose the band. I had surgery on 4/25/12, two days before my surgery I was freaking out, What am I doing? This is crazy! I am not doing this! My friend talked me through it, I had my surgery and I did awesome. Very little pain and I feel great. I must say I am hungry, liquids for two weeks just does not cut it but this will pass and I will move on to the next stage. I am a little scared of what is to come but also looking forward to it. Tickers: http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php It will give you a code to paste into your signature. Good luck on your journey.
