Would Really Like To Have A Buddy/ Mentor!

I am 25 years old from New Mexico. I am currently on my first week of liquid diet and have two more to go. My starting weight is 351lbs (5"5') and I have an ultimate goal of 180lbs. Eating is a very self soothing activity for me and has been a problem ever since I was born. I don't know what it is like to be in a normal weight range. All I know is that food was the only true, and consistent happiness in my life. But I want to be healthy, I want to feel beautiful, and most of all I want to have children. I am very dedicated to this lapband journey but I would love some support from someone who has gone through or is going through the same.

I sooooo understand your pain. I am such an emotional eater. It is very self-soothing to me. I am so afraid that this journey will leave me depressed and unable to help myself. But I am so excited to start this journey and find myself again. I am so excited to love life and feel good again.

So you have to do a 3 week, pre-op liquid diet? I have been instructed to do a 2 week pre-op diet. I am a bit intimidated by this, but I know I can do it. What are your pre-op diet guidelines?

I have to have two protein shakes per day and either one cup of soup or 1 cup of low fat cottage cheese. I can have one snack of fat free, sugar free pudding, yogurt, or jello. Sugar free drinks and veggie juice is ok too. I hate the protein drinks though. They make me very nauseous and even though I am not supposed to chug anything I have to chug them or I get sick. I have tried two different types so far but both are pretty bad. But it seems like most people like them better than I do. :)

Ashley,

Try crushed ice in the shakes. I throw some crushed ice in when I blend and it helps so much.

Also, I could not stand them with water, I use fat free/skim milk and that also helps.

Some doctors allow milk and some don't.

hi ashley

i am on day 2 of my pre -op diet. for the next 4 days i can have 2 shakes and lean cuisine dinner. then i am on liquids only. my hub found a whey protein powder made w flavor of cookies and cream............DELISH........i also have fusion in chocolate mousse...i nearly free the water (to a slush) and it tastes pretty good. i am around your size and want to get to the goal weight that you have set. i am more worried about 2 wks with no food and that is scary to me. def will use the jello, pop isciles, broth, drained chicken soup (low sodium),,,,,,,,,,,,,and WATER............hub also got me margarita crystal light, that is the bomb diggity to me. hang in there. i am in your shoes (or flip flops in my preference)

Have you started your diet yet? I would like to know how it goes. I have gotten very, very depressed while on mine. I want so badly to call the whole thing off and go binge eat. I am not hungry on this liquid diet, I just feel like someone conning off of drugs. There is nothing that can satisfy me right now but to eat the food that I am craving. I'm actually really scared for my future. I don't want to suffer like this for the rest of my life. Did anyone else feel like this? Does it get better?
