  1. Check with your dr's office about the heating pad; mine wouldn't let me bring one.
  2. The word "therapy" comes to mind. How about going with him to see a therapist about the problem? It doesn't sound as though you will be able to convince him out of his insecurities. Therapy may help him deal with his problems and may help you deal with him. Good luck and please seek out professional help. Congratulations on having made the decision to improve your health and quality of life.
  3. Your doctor's insurance person should be able to answer that.
  4. Call your doctor about that incision.
  5. Whatever my doctor told me to eat. I don't know your doctor's policies on when to eat what.
  6. One week? Ignore the scale, follow the doctor's orders and you will get results.
  7. You don't want to know how I was going to reply to this post. You must be feeling better and I'm glad.
  8. I agree with the others. And if you refuse to follow your doctor's orders now, how will you be able to follow them the rest of your life? Get with the program and enjoy the results.
  9. If you drink coffee, it would be a good idea to gradually wean yourself off it. You don't want to suffer caffeine withdrawal in the hospital and you may not be able to drink it until your stomach has healed some.
  10. Please don't call yourself a cow and please don't think of yourself or anyone else that way. You have improved your health, quality of life and appearance and will continue to do so. Try to think of it that way. You have come a long way in losing weight and you are not done losing. You can do this.
  11. Keep remembering your goal, which isn't the surgery but the benefits from the surgery. Also, keep reminding yourself that pre-op is for only a short period of time. You can do this.
  12. I have no medical training or experience, but one thing that jumped out at me was your comment that you try to offset exercise and calories. It doesn't seem that would get you anywhere, that your eating is cancelling out the weight loss effect of your exercise. Why don't you try your nutritionist's advice? She is the expert.
  13. This is not a small nsv; it is huge. Congratulations!
  14. Congratulations on your weight loss and your hard work to get there. You should be very proud of yourself.
  15. It does take a while. I think it took me a month. Are you taking all of the supplements in the amounts you are supposed to take? You must push the fluids and protein. You must.
  16. My surgeon required four group sessions with his nutritionist: three before surgery and one after. The meetings were extremely helpful, covering nutrition, supplements and eating habits during the pre-op diet, the post-op diet, the mushie stage and the rest of my life. She did not try to help me lose weight so that I did not need the surgery. We are all at this point because we have tried dieting, lost weight and gained it back again. The purpose was to get me ready for the surgery and the life I would have afterwards.
  17. I don't know whether it is common or not. My surgeon required $495 after the first appointment to cover the binder of information they gave me and administrative expenses until my insurance approved the surgery. I was not required to pay anything else up front. BCBS federal is my insurance and my copay was $100. I paid that after the surgery.
  18. Please keep us updated. As you have found, this site is great for suport.
  19. What about the quantity of your food at dinner? Too much will definitely have you hanging your head over the bowl.
  20. If you're a woman, you should be taking calcium anyway.
  21. Probably not what you are looking for, but I drink water with ice.
  22. Try drinking a glass of water when you wake up at night. Sometimes we interpret thirst as hunger.
  23. You have the spirit. Just keep on working towards the goal. Whatever happens, you will be healthier for it.
  24. What a burden you are carrying. My heart goes out to you. Although there is no way to ease the pain of having lost children, I hope your weight loss will help you in the future. I know you didn't go this way in the post and I am reluctant to bring up something that is unrelated to your very real and painful situation, but I feel I must. Is it possible that the injuries of your cousin's children may be from child abuse rather than neglect? If you suspect that, I encourage you to call your state's version of a child welfare department. No child should be subjected to the physical and emotional pain of abuse.
