  1. I weigh 288 pounds. I have tried many diets in the past and have lost weight, but I always gain it back to get back to the 290 area. not sure why my body seems to like that number. I know I hate it. I don't stop eating when I am full, especially when i made something or bought something that tastes great or that i hadn't had in a while. i sometimes wait about fifteen minutes and even though i am not hungry, i go back for more. i feel like i am asking myself so many questions.... how is the lap band surgery going to change this? how is the lap band going to not make me eat junk food or sweets as a meal instead of a wise protein choice? i can't seem to do that now. I lost 83 pounds in 7 months on weight watchers a few years ago and i used most of my 33 points each day on junkie food or bad choices, but i still lost weight because i kept to my points. but of course gained it all back. what is the answer to not over eating? i have read some posts from bandsters that found themselves a few years later back to the weight that they were before the surgery. what is the likelihood of this happening? skinny people just don't get what we go through everyday. why do we live to eat instead of eat to live? i am just sick of having to deal with this issue, how did we find ourselves in this situation? life is hard enough without having to worry about your weight. why do some people have this connection with food and others don't? maybe i should go into this like a recovery addict does- ONE DAY AT A TIME.
  2. be able to wrap a regular size towel around my body after swimming and showering; this is a big TMI if i ever heard one, but why not lol; feel confortable being on top during sex.
  3. my husband is the same way. i am 288 and he says the same things. last week i said that carry underwood was pretty and he said, you are prettier than her. get new glasses babe. but you know, when they love us, they love us. thank god, we are hard enough on ourselves. you seem to have a great support system at home and i wish you luck. i am going to banded on 12/1/11 so i look forward to sharing my journey with you. I need to work on eating withouth drinking. not sure how that will work, we eat out alot and i finish my drink before the appetizers come. major life change. we need to learn how to eat to live, not live to eat. Best of luck on your journey.

you are right, success is not only measured in pounds or inches lost, but in being able to participate in a 5K or 10 mile race. keep up the good work and i wish you luck in the future. sounds like you have the tools to reach your goal.
  5. wow, i love my surgeon but for this reason only i would love a different one lol. i have to do two weeks pre surgery liquid diet due to my BMI being over 45. that means my birthday november 17th and thanksgiving will be a liquid diet. but i am going to start the liquid November 18th, i must have one last birthday at Carmine's in atlantic city, family style italian food. thanksgiving is going to be tough. i am italian, holidays are all about the food, but that is also the reason i am in the shape that i am in. consider yourself very lucky. wish you much success in your journey.
  6. most insurances want a six or seven year weight history. if you do not have a primary care doctor do you have a gynocologist? my friend used her gyno as her doctor to give her the weight history and letter of concent. insurance wants to know that you have been over weight for the last six years and tried without success to diet in the past. good luck and you will find that this forum is soooo helpful. i am pre surgery and hope to banded on december 1st. much success to you
  7. good luck to you. i wish you much success. i hope the week goes fast for you. i can't wait until i can say i have one week to get banded. my date is december 1st and it seems like an eternity. keep us posted

why do some of us have to do the 14 day diet and others just 2? does it depend on the BMI or the surgeon? my dietician allows fruit yogurt milk and oatmeal. how about a fruit smoothly with plain yogurt and fruit? good luck
  9. congratulations!! you seem to be really focused. Keep up the good work? you had this success with the lap band - unfilled? is that an option that you chose on your own or was this something that you and your surgeon decided?
  10. I sent you an e-mail. if you have any questions, just e-mail back. i just went through this process and it is fresh in my mind. i have horizon blue cross blue shield Federal and they required the same two pieces of information.

congratulations. it is an exciting time. i am presurgery also. i went to a lap band seminar at my local hospital on August 10th and i have my date set for december 1st. you wil have a few doctor appointments to go to; depending on your surgeon and your insurance you will need clearance from a few specialists but i am already done with that process. good luck to you and congratulations.
  12. i am so sorry that you have to have your band rremoved, but of course your health and safety have to come first. how unfortunate but i hope that you keep a positive outlook towards your diet and reach that goal even without the lap band tool. i wish much success to you and remember that your journey is not over, you just have to find a new road to travel on but they can have the same end result. take care
  13. i look forward to someday not having to go to a doctor's office and have everything blamed on the fact that i am overweight. that is what my goal is for this surgery, not to fit into skinny jeans (even though that would be nice also). so many health issued that came along over the years that were blamed on weight. ughhh. well thank you so much arnetta for your response. <BR>
  14. wow that is absolutely wonderful, what a great accomlishment. Keep up the good work. has your experience been positive so far? i am pre surgery so i love to hear other people's experiences. r u hungry all the time?
  15. Hi I am Ro from Manahawkin, N.J. (the jersey shore). r u pre surgery like myself?
  16. what a shocker. I had my upper endoscopy yesterday. wasn't bad at all and my blood pressure was good throughout the entire procedure even though i was nervous. i found out that i have gastritis (which my dad had); reflux esophagitis (both my children as babies had reflux) and something called gastric mucosal abnormality characterized by erythema (whatever that is)lol. I have to take a med called Aciphex now and i hope i can still have the surgery or that this doesn't delay the surgery. the doctor took four biopsies so i will know more in a few weeks when i have my follow up with him. thank goodness we get this opportunity to have our health checked out before the surgery. i wouldn't have known that i have these problems. i get heartburn some times but nothing more than that so i would guess that i have mild cases of these ailments. This is my last test and i hope in two weeks i get clearance from the doctor and i can be on way to my December 1st date of surgery. anyone had these problems? did it delay the surgery? anyone on Aciphex? Thank you for your support
  17. oh that is great news. congratulations!!! you have shown your stregnth in not giving up and with that stregnth, you will be very successful throughout your lapband journey. i can't wait to hear how the surgery goes for you.
  18. WOW, i swear that i could have typed every word myself. you got me at the walking over to a chair slowly to see if it was wide enough for me to sit in. we all go through the same things everyday. maybe if we learned to love ourselves as much as we should, life as an overweight person wouldn't have to be so depressing. well, i wish you nothing but the best and i hope you have much much success. keep us posted.
  19. that is wonderful. thanks for the response. good luck on your journey. i hope your surgery goes well and i look forward to hearing about your positive outcome post surgery. what do the last few days before surgery feel like?
  20. my surgery is set for december 1st which means that my first liquid diet day is november 17th. I was told that since my BMI is 46.5 i will have to do the liquid diet for two weeks. WELL my birthday is november 17th so it is safe to assume that i am starting that lovely liquid diet on November 18th. lol. HAVE to go to Carmines in A/C for my birthday dinner and of course have a canoli while I am there. what is one more celebration before the surgery? lol. good luck to you and much success.

did you check your temperature to make sure you do not have a fever? cold and shivery could be an indication of a fever and a fever could mean an infection. make sure you check that. hope you feel better and good luck
  22. i have my last procedure scheduled for tomorrow. i am having my upper endoscopy. i already received clearance from primary doctor (letter of consent and weight history); cardio doctor; pulmonologist; psychologist and this is my last schedule test. I have two more dietician appointments to go. I hope everything goes well tomorrow and i have to wait until october 14th for my appointment with him to go over the results of the test. i don't know about you guys, but i just can't wait until surgery. i am scheduled for december 1st and i hope that we can keep that date. i am so anxious about the surgery. i wish it would just come tomorrow. can't wait to meet the skinny Roe inside RoeRoe. lol. Do the last two months of playing the waiting game drive you crazy or does it go fast? I have horizon blue cross blue shield federal. does anyone have that insurance? when will i know that they approved me? will i receive word from the surgeon or will i receive a letter from insurance? this forum is a godsend. thank you. can't wait to see the post for December Bandsters. i will know that I am close when i can join that. thank you for your support. it means the world
