  1. sorry for your loss. i hope you are doing well. great news that you lost the first week and were able to be successful even though you were away. keep up the good work; you are an inspiration. i start thursday for my two week liquid. by the way, my youngest is 11 and i remember those days of asking people, did your son sleep through the night at 7 months, at 8 months, etc., it is all a blur now. hang in there.
  2. that is great news. honesty is the best policy. great job on the 12 pound weight loss and i wish you the best during your surgery.
  3. Rosy that is so great. this is just what a prebander wants to read. keep up the good work and congrats. have fun at the wedding and enjoy your accomplishments.
  4. my seminar was august 10th; first meeting with Surgeon August 15th and surgery December 1st. the time at first went slow but now the last month is flying. good luck. the best things are worth waiting for.
  5. why does the diet vary from surgeon to surgeon? it should be standard, but so should the insurance specifications. some insurances require a dr supervised diet for six months and some do not. just would be nice if we were all on the same page, but i guess all things are worth fighting for. Matt you lucky stiff. i have known about the pre surgery diet since my seminar so if you haven't been told about it by now, i am sure you will not have to do it. Rejoyce, you hit the nail on the head, the better condition you go into surgery, the better you go out. the dietician also said the high protein liquid shakes help with the healing process also 24 hours after surgery, so the week or weeks before, the more protein you consume, the better you should heal after surgery.
  6. good luck; this is a tough season to do a liquid diet, but we made this decision and there is no turning back. i received good news last night; the pre surgery diet will allow you to replace one of your protein shakes each day with 3 ounces of plain grilled chicken. i am going to try to not do this at all but on thanksgiving i am going to have this with the 1/2 cup of salad and fat free italian dressing i am allowed and enjoy a dinner with the family. there is a god; i can eat some sort of a thanksgiving meal with the fam.
  7. on this forum i have read many many posts from people that said that the two week pre-surgery diet is not a "liver shrinking diet". it is just the surgeons way to get you used to following a liquid diet. some people even said they didn't follow it and advised others that it wasn't a big deal if they didn't follow it. last night the dietician told us that yesterday she saw our surgeon and he was very upset. she said he just had a tough surgery where the patient did not follow the diet at all and they had so much trouble maneuvering around his liver and trying with difficulty to retract the liver to successfully complete the surgery. the patient's liver was hanging down too far to retract it. it took longer than it should and finally they were able to complete the surgery. she told us that the liver shrinking diet does reduce the amount of fat around the liver and around your stomach and is an imporant part of this process especially if you have a high BMI or a fatty liver. just thought i would share that story.
  8. hey matt; we talked before on the december bandsters post. This is the best birthday gift we can give to ourselves. my birthday is next thursday the 17th (fellow scorpio) and that is the day i start my two week presurgery diet. i am italian originally from brooklyn new york and i can certainly relate to the Manga. way too much of that going on. a plate of pasta as a first dish and a second dish of some sort of meat. here's to a thinner us in 2012 and the many many many extra years we incurred. good luck on your surgery.
  9. my date is december 1st, pretty close and that way i can give you one week notice of what to expect since i am starting everything one week before you. lol. i live in new jersey by the jersey shore. i am 41 and a wife and mother of a 16 yr old girl and 12 yr old boy. i am staring the pre surgery liquid diet next thursday. drop me a line, i would love to go through this together with you. i am also on facebook.

just realized that mine doesn't work on my blog either. maybe it only does it on a post in the forum and not a blog. i will be checking back to see if you and i are doing something wrong. lol.
  11. thank you so much for the information.
  12. anyone have any ideas for us December bandsters, as far as an exercise goal or walking goal. starting tomorrow November 8th can we pledge to walk a total of 3 miles a week or work out for a total of an hour a week. what do you think and how can we get the word out to all december bandsters. i wish we all lived in the same town so we could walk together.
  13. i was just looking into my benefits book for Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield BASIC option. it seems that i will have a $150 per night fee for the hospital (one night) and a $150 per doctor (I think there will be 2 surgeons). just wondering if anyone else has this insurance. thinking about what other costs i will incur for the surgery. i already paid all my co-pays for all the specialists to get approved for the surgery. wondering if there will be an anethesia (spelling) cost or co-pay. just want to prepare my husband before all the bills come rolling in. thank you.
  14. i am so sorry for all of you and i hope that your situation gets fixed and without any troubles in the future. my question is did your surgeon suture the band to your stomach on your originally surgery? my surgeon says he does that so the band will not slip. wondering if it still can slip even after suturing it in place. thank you and good luck.
  15. texas bandit; i am so sorry that you had to go back to the hospital for this. good thing you realized it was serious and got it taken care off. hope you on the mend and feeling better soon. make sure you drink your water to flush that infection out of your system. are you on antibiotics?
  16. i am sorry, read it too fast. that is fantastic that you are spending your pre pre surgery dieting. i should be more like you and do that. my friends at work are sort of bringing in things that they know i like, flan and rice pudding, and of course i am eating them. i think next week i will ask them not to do that, because i am going to gain weight in the last three weeks presurgery instead of beining disciplined like you and losing. good job and keep up the good work.
  17. when you click on the ticker it will open up the original ticker that you made on the website and you will see a button to "edit/update weight data" put in your pin that you set up and then you can change your information and save it and copy that new ticker over the older one in your signature, delete the old and keep the new. hope that works for you.
  18. you will have to do a liquid diet for one to two weeks (depending on your BMI and your surgeon) prior to surgery. i have to do a two week liquid diet starting on November 17th through December 1st, no thanksgiving feast for me ; ( . i asked my husband if he would do it with me and he said no but he promised to do the cooking for those two weeks so i am not feeling too much torture.
  19. my paperwork says that post surgery, you should aim at 60 to 80 grams per day The typical pre-op diet will include 70 to 120 grams of Protein each day. this is from my paper work also this promotes giving your body energy since you are not eating carbs and also helps the body prepare for healing.
  20. i drive a very small car a saturn that is very low to the ground. when i get out of the car, i have to put my keys, wallet and cell phone in my right hand so i can use my left hand to push myself out of the car. i always wonder what i look like when i get out of this car. i should have someone record this before the surgery so i can see just how i had to overcompensate in life to do the simple things that others take for granted. what i want to be able to do in one year from now is to get out of my small car without having to use any hands, just the stregnth of my own legs.

  22. If you don't mind, may mention this on my facebook account? i know a number of people that would want to donate their candy including me. thank you so much. this is a wonderful idea.
  23. why does the diet vary so much from surgeon to surgeon. mine is three protein shakes (2 made with skim milk, the other water) one cup of fat free veggies; broth; vegetable juice (not V8 fusion) sugar free apple sauce and pudding. fat free yogurt only plain and vanilla; cream of wheat and plain oatmeal. why can't my surgeon allow me to have a healthy dinner? well, great job on the 2 pounds already that is great. did you take your before pictures? keep up the good work.
  24. Don't forget to take plenty of before pictures even before you start your pre -surgery diet because people have lost a good amount of weight during that period. I am going start taking mine.
  25. OMG, i can't stop eating the halloween candy and my last dietician appointment is next tuesday and i do not want to gain any weight. the first two i was the same weight and this one is at 6:00 at night so you always weigh more at night. liquid diet in two weeks and surgery 12/1/11 so if the halloween candy is not done in two weeks, i am throwing it away. lol. hang in there and don't bananas. when do you start your liquid diet?
