  1. i am so excited and anxious, but to me honest, for a bit there, all the negative posts were getting to me. alot of posts about bandsters that are two years out and they have gained all of their weight back. i didn't think that was possible to do that. i thought for a second that the band was going to stop me from eating but my doctor told me that if I do not eat my calories, I will be fine. I am promising myself to stay away from any creamed soups or ice cream shakes. I am going to take it one day at a time, just like any other addict, because I am addicted to foods and always made bad decisions in the past and will make a effort everyday to think about what i am going to eat and plan every meal. congrats to you on your success and i hope that you feel better each day and continue your journey to a smaller you. keep in touch.
  2. hi red chick; i am from south jersey also. originally from brooklyn new york and moved to barnegat 11 years ago. having surgery december 1st at SOCH
  3. i am 41 and i soooo wish i thought about doing this ten years ago. BUT, december 1st will be the 1st day of the second half of my life. my son is 11 and my daughter is 15 so my husband and i and the kids still have alot of good times ahead. good luck
  4. anything beats clear broth, Protein shakes and sugar free Jello. lol. You are lucky that you and your husband are banded at the same time, you can go through it together and support eachother in your daily food intake. that seems like a great success story there. good luck to you both .
  5. My birthday is november 17th and that is the day i am supposed to start my two week liquid diet. my surgery date is December 1st, but my surgeon gave me the go ahead to have my birthday dinner and start on the 18th. i think he realized that i am going to have to miss thanksgiving so he figured he would give me my birthday. I wonder how thanksgiving is going to be? at least i can have some turkey broth lol. good luck fellow december bandsters. i was waiting patiently to see a December Bandsters post. i feel like it is just around the corner now.
  6. some surgeons do not require the pre op diet, i heard somewhere that it their way of showing us what to expect after surgery and after each fill. that way you can get used to the liquid diet. if that is true, i am mad because i have to do if for two weeks and that takes my thanksgiving away from me. but it is a good practice anyway and you get a jumpstart to weight loss. good luck and don't worry.
  7. be careful, my dietician says that a headache is a sign of dehydration. sip sip sip whenever you get a chance.
  8. good luck with your appt. dont be afraid to be your own advocate and ask the primary to support this decision. let him or her know that you struggled all of your life and you know this will be difficult and you know that the lap band is just a tool to assist in the weight loss. my doctor wanted to know that i didn't think the band was going to do all the work. tell him or her that you researched this for a long time and you feel that you will be a good candidate. please respond to me directly when you get the news. I would like to know if this works out for you. Good luck
  9. post op shopping list is so important. i am not banded yet, but i have read over and over about what you will need for your liquid diet following surgery. hopefully some of the bandsters can give you tips on that. you will not be able to do a big shopping after, so make sure you have plenty of gas x and all the protein shakes that you will need for the week to follow. also vitamins and supplements are needed and plenty of water if you do not drink tap water, make sure you have plenty of bottled water. good luck in your journey. just keep checking the pre and post surgery forums, so much crutial information. go to the source, the doctors and nurses have not been banded so talking with people who have been can give you first hand information on your journey following surgery. GOOD LUCK
  10. look how much you are smiling in the after pictures. what a great accomplishment. keep up the good work and keep your spirits up and most of all congratulations to you.
  11. Thank you Rachel, i just went on amazon and ordered that book. i also ordered a cookbook so i could get free shipping. Thank you so much for the tip, i think that book is going to be very helpful.
  12. thank you for your suggestions and I will look for that book elgrande. congrats Dr. Pickert. what a successful journey you have had so far. i wish you continued success and i will def check out your blogs.
  13. one day at a time. that is all you can do. just take it one day at a time. good luck, just keep your eye on the prize. take care
  14. On my first visit with the surgeon i was there for an hour and a half. after i spoke with the surgeon i spoke with the insurance lady and i was given a packet that showed exactly what my insurance required. in the last three months i had to get clearance from a cardiologist; pulmonologist; gastroenterologist; therapist; letter of support and weigh history from primary care doctor and have three sessions with the hospitals nutritionist. have you done any of these? definitely call them. good luck
  15. I was interested in buying a book to help with my lap band journey. my nutritionist mentioned a book called Eat This Not This, but it seems like there are alot different choices and that got me thinking about how Lap Band Diets are pretty unique so i figured I would go straight to the source. Thank you for your suggestions. seven more weeks to go to surgery.
  16. i was interested in the breathing exercises. is this something that the surgeon will tell you about after surgery? today at my second nutritionist appointment that topic came up but i didn't think to ask what that involves. Thank you. In reply to: Also, its not a shopping item, but make sure you take a walk and are doing your breathing exercises during the day. I would do my breathing, then take a walk around the block. It all contributes to a super fast healing process. Be prepared to sleep sitting down. I slept in my recliner for the first few nights since it hurt so much to sleep on my side.
  17. i just don't get people. instead of being happy for you, they have to be ugly. i have been jealous of people in the past but my jealousy comes out as being happy jealous and wanting to bask in their enjoyment. now i understand why some people start over after a huge weight loss; new job, new town. the way you get back at her is get that size four dress and wear it proudly and keep the tag on and let it hang out so she can see it. be proud of yourself and instead of kill them kindness, kill them with hotness. congratulations!!!

i clicked on a few profiles and i see a few that have different numbers next to the reputation. i think it demends on how active you are on this site. i thought for a second someone reported me. lol.

On my profile, next to reputation, there is a number 1. what does that mean? how do you get a reputation on this forum? did i offend someone
  20. excited for you. best of luck and wish you a speedy recovery
  21. that is great that you had your surgery in a weight loss surgical center. best place to be and have the best care. your posts are very positive and i look forward to sharing my journey with you. it is so funny that we all seem so comfortable talking about such intimate issues (especially gas, lol) but i think that we all seem to be in the same frame of mind and we are all sympathetic of how life can be for an overweight person, especially girls. glad we have this opportunity to support eachother. take care and continued success.
  22. my dietician suggests taking out some of the gas bubbles by stiring the soda with a spoon. try that.
  23. great news. hope each day is a little better. what is the one night stay at the hospital like? not many people talk about that. were the nurses experienced with Lap Band? are you able to get dressed or did you stay in a gown. just wondering because not many people talk about that. it always seems the topic of comversation is GAS. oh that dreaded gas. i have read so much about that. after my first c section, the gas pains were like contractions. not looking forward to that again. well, glad you are doing well. and good luck
  24. Thanks Arenetta; you are right. you ARE doing this right now. how is your recovery?
  25. you are right. this answers the questions in my blog. thank you. i guess i have to learn how to say these words and believe them. you have the right attitude and i think you will do well in your journey. now if i can just believe that i will. Thanks
