Ever since I can remember, I have been the "fat guy". That is what I was known for. I never took my shirt off at a pool or a beach, ever! That is something I want to change though. So, my best friend who I graduated high school together has always been much slimmer, popular, girls flocked to him; I sure you get the drift. Although we have been friends for over two decades I feel he never took me seriously because of my weight. At parties, clubs, bars, social situations I was always the one who was ignored and not payed attention too. Well, he moved out of state and we see each other about twice a year. He has a very stressful job and as a result has been emotionally eating and gained a significant amount of weight. He is one of the few that know that I had my surgery and he is very supportive. We saw each other for the first time in over a year last week and guess what...drum roll.....I weigh less than him. He even made a comment on how I was flirting with the waitress at the restaurant we met at. It felt like I was in his shoes for once. It felt truly that the tables have turned.

    Work

I work at a school and I have my surgery two days before I go back to work and a week before kids return. What was it like going to work post op? How long did it take for you to go back to liquid? Sent from my LG-M150 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Forever

I can relate. Back in 2011, when I was 370 lbs. I wanted to make changes, but I didn't want to commit to anything permanent. Well, I got exactly that. I lost 70 lbs, but then started gaining some back and I just couldn't break 300 for more than a day. No matter what I did. I struggled for like 7 years. Finally I had the band removed and revised to the bypass. I can't tell you how many times I've regretted not getting the damn bypass in the first place. Those 7ish years could have been SO MUCH BETTER! But... I was too afraid to commit, and in the end, that's what sabotaged my weight loss, lack of commitment and follow through. So, if you want something that's going to work, and last, and your biggest issue is that it's going to be a "forever" change... you have to ask yourself, how long do you want to be overweight? Do you want to get only some of the way to your goal and then have that non-permanent solution fail you? And yes, I know that there is a rebound risk with all WLS. But, the changes that I personally have been forced to make, in order to make this revision to bypass work, are forever changes, because they need to be in order for them to work.

    Pain after swallowing

We are surgery buddies. I had my procedure the same day. I am experiencing the same issues. If I eat popsicles it doesn't give me that awful pain, but if I sip water or my protein shakes I get that tightness like I swallowed nothing but air. I see my doctor on Thursday and hopefully will get some help as to what I can do or expect and share what I have learned. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi there, Yes forever is a long time. I did not opt for the sleeve as they remove your stomach where as the Bypass they leave the stomach in you. This has come in very handy for me as the Bypass has left me with multiple issues and they are going to have to reverse it. Had I had the sleeve that would not be an option.
