    December 2020 Surgery Updates

You look fabulous. Keep it up! I had a sleeve to RNY for severe GERD. I am happy to say the reflux is 100% improved. I started at 206 and am at 175. My goal would be 165 since I am 70 years old and can't get too gaunt. I have had only one episode of vomitting and that was my fault. I can eat anything and do. I keep my portions in check and don't overindulge. I do enjoy an adult beverage couple times a week. Overall I am very pleased with my progress. I do need to get my #ss in gear and start getting more exercise. Seems like spring had finally hit Iowa so getting out more. Bought new walking shoes and going to get going any day now. Thank you for starting this thread and I hope we hear from others. Bonnie

    Struggling

I am glad you are feeling better about this. Just remember through any stall (because you will have a few through this process) that no human can survive on the limited calories we are consuming (assuming you are sticking to your plan) and not lose weight. Your body may fight it for a little while but the loss is inevitable.

    Advice

Hello All, Quick question. I've read on here that you can get the Gastric sleeve paid for through Medicaid. I was told by my PCP as well who recommended. I originally was going through my insurance but due to decrease in hours I've lost my insurance. I am currently in medically needy Florida share of cost $1400. I am unfamiliar with the process but I think after calling enough places I have a better understanding. When calling around to local surgeons, I can't find anyone that takes medically needy share of cost or straight Medicaid just Medicaid humana. I am willing to drive around Florida if necessary. Anyone with recent success?

    May Surgery?!

I had my surgery on May 4. After 4 days the nausea subsided make sure you take the zofran and if the offer additional nausea meds while your stay in the hospital get them. They also gave a a patch that goes behind your ear that is good for 3 days for nausea. As for pain they did give me norcos but I don't like taking them. Fyi they do contribute to nausea so i just took extra strength tylenol for about 3 days after surgery. I do on occasion have incision pain but an ice pack works fine. As for preop diet they didn't put me on a full liquid diet. It was more of a high protein low carb diet and it worked I did lose 10lbs in 1 week. If i can ill post diet as attachment. Well good luck to everyone and hope all have a speedy recovery.

I had a failed sleeve - I did drop about 60 lbs with it but then started to gain. It was so stretched out. I lost a further 50 lbs with bypass. I’m now looking to do a distal to help shed the remainder of this weight I just can’t get off.

    Surgery Day!!!!!

Good luck! I struggled with protein right after surgery. I drank a lot of Fairlife skim milk and Pedialyte.

I am near 2 months out from Bypass to bypass revision. Weight loss is slower this time around, but I'm actually glad of it. It is consistent and manageable- I feel good. My vitamin levels have been stable - a million times better than after my original bypass. I have a long way to go yet, but so far, worth it.

    Poop talk

I don’t take fiber supplements because I find they back me up. I do drink Smooth Move tea most nights, and take a senna tablet on the nights I don’t. Since WLS, I find not going for more than two days is radically uncomfortable for me. The times I miss my tea or tablet typically results in days of misery getting back on track. I go most mornings with my tea or tablet and I am a happy pooper! 💩😬
