  1. Started by omrhsn,

Yay! I was avoiding the scale over the past few days and only checked this morning to find myself below 100 kg! I can't remember the last time I was at this weight but I'd say at least 20 years ago. What a pleasant and timely surprise. I turned 40 yesterday. So excited for my next birthday already ?.

Celebrating my 11th year anniversary of my RNY. Age 78, height 5/8, 299 lbs. Lowest weight was 165 (ideal) but the COVID "home bound" situation has caused some gain that I need to work on . Age now is almost 84 and some health issues are adding to water retention that has add to my weight. My story is that I gained weight after having 2 sons, starting two businesses created stress and a lot of responsibility fell to me. Diabetes became a big issue and while I reached 299 lbs.... diabetes was a big concern. My decision to have Bariatric surgery was guided by the fear of how diabetes was not under control. I was very fortunate to live near Indiana University Med…

  4. I considered wls for many, many years, but never seriously. When I was a new RN in 1997, it was fairly new and I saw people die from it, so I was always scared of it. I also never had insurance that concerned it, so I knew I'd have to pay out of pocket, and I was overall healthy, so I figured I could do it on my own. I had my son in 2010, and that's when I really started to gain a lot of weight. I had done WW before I got pregnant and had lost 45. I was down to 263. After he was born, the weight started piling on. I was sick all the time and got diagnosed with asthma. I was in pain all the time. My liver enzymes increased slowly year by year, until 2020 when my doctor d…

  5. Hey guys! This isn’t as much a success story as it is a progress story but I just had to share! I had surgery in late April of this year and got weighed at my doctor’s office today and I officially crossed under the 25 bmi border! I’ve still got a ways to go but I have more energy and feel like I have my life back! Now I can keep up with my son’s sports activities! I’ve had a couple of bumps along the way (who doesn’t?) but with dedication and prayer have moved past them. Here’s my progress pic! Cheers! Queso

  6. Coming up on 2 years post op and life has never been better. The gastric sleeve opened up a world to me that i thought would never exist. Ive learned so much about health, nutrition and exercise, that i wouldnt have if i didnt take the first step with the sleeve. I have a healthy relationship with foods now. I try to keep myself to the 80/20 rule. But i probably am closer to 90/10. Make good choices 80% of the time, and enjoy some of my favorite things the other times. Its funny tho, a lot of my favorites have no become healthy choices. So that makes life easier. I started this journey first just focusing on losing the weight. So for the first year i ran a lot and set a g…

  7. Started by Tufflaw,

I've been bringing my kids for the past few years to a place called Urban Air, it's basically an indoor amusement park, it's a lot of fun. Unfortunately, a lot of the coolest things to do there have a weight limit, 250 for some and 230 for others, so I was never able to join them on those rides. Even though I passed both thresholds a few months ago I never felt comfortable going on them until tonight I decided to give it a shot. I ended up doing ALL of the stuff I couldn't go on before, including the "Sky Rider" (indoor zipline, it was awesome), Ropes Course, and Rock Climbing. Lots of fun, and another great NSV.

  8. Started by Ephemeral,

I am sure there's a thread on this very topic, out there.....however, this goal was an important one, as well as an emotional one for me and I wanted my own thread on it. I don't remember the last time I weighed under 200 lbs, and finally this morning, my scale read 199.8 lbs. I know that .8 is there, but for me, seeing the 199, meant a lot. While I still have a little ways to go, (about 55 lbs), to reach my end goal, reaching ONEderland was a cornerstone for me. It's been just a little over 2 months since I've had my surgery, and not one day goes by without me telling myself that I should have done this much sooner! I'm no longer wearing "stretchy" pants....I'm now weari…

  9. Started by HealthyLifeStyle,

I am in shock. I have gone from a size 20 jeans, to an 8, in only 7 months! I went from a 2x in shirts to a medium, or small, depending on the material, and brand. I still see myself as chubby, because I have loose skin around my hips, and abdomen. I wonder what size I would be in, if I didn't have the extra skin? I am looking fwd. to having some type of tuck, removal, etc. of my extra skin. I only have 5 months to go before I reach my 1 yr. The time is flying by. I have never in my adult life, been this size. I was always the chubby/fat kid in school (always teased, and bullied). I yo-yo dieted most of my adult life, but would often give up if I wasn't los…

  15. Started by Tami10,

I started this journey at 290. I'm six months out from gastric bypass and now weigh 196. The doctor says my goal weight is 160 which means 36lbs to go.The last time I remember being under 200 was when my 20 year old daughter was like 1 or 2. My personal goal is to be at 160 by my birthday in the beginning of October and am working hard to hit that. I was in 19/20 pants and a 2/3x top. Now I am in a 8/10 pants and medium shirt. The thing that confuses me is at 185 when my daughter was little I wore a size 10 but I fit into my 10s starting at 210lb. I just don't know how that works. Don't get me wrong I happy about the fact that my jeans are an 8 and a medium top but not su…

  16. Need help struggling with sweet craving and bread carbs. How is everyone getting thru these cravings. Work (retail) schedule is crazy 10 hours days. Around food entire time. So temptations are there . I do make my meals but feel I’m eating to much or not enough. Drinking water is null and void. Because I just do not like drinking plain water. Need some good tips to get thru and defeat these cravings. Have 10:pounds from goal. Down 60 pounds.

  17. Wow - What a week I've just had! Due to COVID, we haven't had our yearly work conference with customers since 2019. I've been with my company for 20+ years (and overweight the majority of that time) and haven't seen most of our customers post surgery. This past week was the first one and the reactions I had from co-workers (we work remotely so I haven't seen many of them since 2019 either) and customers was fantastic! I had folks who didn't recognize me at first and others who were just amazed at the transformation. I haven't been shy about how I lost the weight. Hell, I'll tell anyone how and why. I'd like to see the stigma of it gone. I waited so many yea…

  18. I'm 6 months post op this week. Surgery day, I weighed 310 and this week I was 245 - so minus 65lbs in 6th months and it feels surreal! I'm also down 87lbs from my heighest weight last May (trying to push for an even 90 by the time my "Get serious about weight loss" anniversary rolls around). What an accomplishment in and of itself! But as many of y'all know, a lot of this goes beyond the scale, so I'm about to talk about labwork and measurements! Labwork/Blood Health I ran comprehensive pre-op, simple 3 month, and comprehensive 6 month labs. Here are those results! Pre-Op Vitamin D was a dismal 15. I've taken a daily 5,000 supplement since starting vi…

  19. Started by Luna Girl,

One year ago today, my life changed when I walked into the hospital. The past 12 months have not been the easiest and I have had moments that I wish I could finish that 6oz steak, baked potato and the entire plate of roasted veggies they serve at my favorite restaurant. But when I can bike for a couple of hours now and still feel like I could go another two and when I go to the doctor and get on their scale and I weigh less than I did in high school and my blood work is all in the normal ranges, and I can go into the cute clothing boutiques and find things to wear, those annoying mealtime thoughts happen less and less. I hit and exceeded my goal weight, but then went…

  20. Started by HeatherE,

Yesterday was my one year surgiversary. Weight loss surgery was an amazing decision and my only regret is not doing it sooner. At one year, I’ve lost 47% of my body weight going from a size 18-20 (2x) to a size 4-6 (small). I feel better. I can walk around and do normal tasks without being exhausted. My acid reflux has improved, no more knee pain, no more incontinence… I feel great. I have excess skin I’m considering having removed, but it sure beats all the fat. I’m down to my goal weight and praying I’m able to maintain it for the long run! Losing 106 pounds (226 to 120) was not easy and I’m scared of gaining it back. My goal now is to increase my exerc…

  21. I don't post here much, though I do check in quite a bit to see what others are and have experienced during their journey. Lately I have seen a number of people "on the fence" about whether or not to go through with WLS, so I thought I would share my story in hopes it will help make the decision easier and / or more informed. This is a personal decision and the journey is different for everyone. I am a 5'4" 43 year old female and underwent the Gastric Sleeve surgery back in January 2021. I have struggled with my weight all if my life. I was always the "curvy" girl throughout my adolescent years. After having 2 kids, I weighed around 200 pounds. I went on every yo-yo die…

  22. Hey all, This is my first time posting. Its just my husband that knows about my surgery but I wanna share it with you all because today I've reached my target weight[emoji1][emoji126] Im 7 months post op. I'm 5ft1 and weighted 15 stone before gastric bypass surgery and now today I've reached the 9 stone mark. Getting surgery was the best decision I could of ever made but the hardest thing I've ever done also. I travelled to nord bariatric clinic from Ireland to Lithuania in Dec 2020 solo. I was scared, ashamed nervous and so so miserable. I missed my kids and my husband so much for the time I was away it was scary being alone doing this but I knew I had to do this for …

I heard somebody say this the other day and it really resonated with me. She said, "Reward yourself for consistency." Too often we set unrealistic goals over which we have no control, like "I've got to lose 5 lbs by the end of the month and if I do, I'll buy myself a new sweater." But what if instead we rewarded our BEHAVIOR instead of relying on the results, which may or may not come by the scale. Say, for instance, we rewarded ourself for tracking our food every day for a month. Or we rewarded ourself for every 10 times we exercised. It can be small things like a mani/pedi or a new outfit or a foot massager or movie tickets or anything, but rew…

I had RNY April 13th 2021… I set a goal in my mind of 100lbs and I would be happy. Today, I weighed in at 179lbs. 9 months after surgery, I am down 101lbs. No regrets, no complications, life is beautiful. Just wanted to share with you all.

Every year our boys' PE hosts a Turkey Run and invites staff to run the mile. Never have I EVER even thought about walking it. Too embarrassed about how I looked, what would jiggle, how long it would take me, that I'd be huffing and puffing... you know all the reasons why. Today, I RAN with them. RAN!! Some of them were still faster, but I had to giggle at all the stragglers who would all of sudden find the energy to run when their librarian was coming up behind them! We were supposed to do 4 laps. I ran 6 and walked 2. So proud of myself. I never, ever thought I'd be a runner. EVER. I started a Couch to 5K app in July, and now I can run 40 consecutive minutes!…

OK, click bait title..... I admit it......but I do enjoy looking at myself in the mirror these day. Down 80lbs...started working out late in the game but can tell I've added some muscle mass as well. Proud of my progress. Gastric sleeve for the win a year from today! Trying to squeeze out another 5-10lbs for my 25 year anniversary so I can prance around in front of my hot wife in my swim suit on our anniversary cruise! For all those sitting on the sidelines, jump in. My experience has been awesome! IMG_1798.HEIC

  27. So it’s been one year! my weight before surgery (August 2020) was 330 lbs! my weight today is 170 lbs. I really want to inspire people as much as I can.. I want my journey to show you that you can do it no matter what. I’m much healthier now and I feel like I own the world, my life has completely changed, I don’t have sleep apnea anymore, I’m back to being the energetic kid I used to be, no more sleeping 24/7, and I can finally drive! ( I never had the chance to due to severe sleep apnea) I couldn’t ride roller coasters before duo to my weight, and I’ve waited in line just to discover that I don’t fit into seats many times. But now, I can fit in ev…

I am 11 months post op gastric sleeve. My highest weight ever was reached in June of 2019 and I was horrified to weigh in at 502 lbs! I didn't believe it and requested the doctor to re-weigh me. That was my first wake-up call. I was suffering from very high blood pressure, debilitating back pain/spasms, knee pain and damage, sciatica, and sleep apnea. I started doing keto and got down to 415lbs. During COVID quarantine, I gained back up to about 459lbs. In July of 2020, I finally decided to take back my life and financed a vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery (out of pocket, since insurance would not cover it). As of yesterday, I'm down to 275 lbs. I have gone fr…

Had a long pre-op program then was delayed by COVID-19, so wasn't sleeved until 5/18/20. Lost 73 pre-op, 94 since - for a total of 167 lbs down! I hit 218 in mid Dec 2020 and have been maintaining in the 213-218 range over the past 6 months. I have worked my way up to about 2000 calories/day (200 carb, 78 fat, 125 protein) which seem to be my maintenance diet based on my BMR and activity level. I have been in a 26 day stall and my weight was driving me CRAZY as I was convinced I'd hit maintenance, but I felt slightly better after talking to my doctor on Wednesday when she told me my physical therapy was likely part of the reason my weight was fluctuating and not going under 201 but instead bouncing around from 201-204. I was incredibly frustrated and it just seemed like I'd never see under 200 pounds... BUT, this morning I weighed myself and saw 199.6 on my scale and... I cried! I'm so happy! It's super early here, not even 5am yet, so I'm trying to stop myself from waking everyone up to share my good news lol. Took me almost 13 months to get here, but I got her…

Hello all! So I had my real first OMG moment. I went dress shopping for a wedding I'm in, left picture is 2 weeks after surgery, jan 19th and right picture was today! April 12th. Same dress but 5 sizes smaller. 84 pounds down from December 27th 2015. I was blown away by the side by sides. I can't stop looking and smiling at this picture!! This is, by far, the best thing I have ever done for myself. Today...I'm very proud! ????????

  49. Started by mae7365,

My daughter came home today and she told me I should try on some of her dresses from her college formal days. Never, ever, ever did I expect them to fit. I feel pretty good after I looked at these photos. Of course, I've got the whole "bat wings" going on, but I'm not going to stress over the details. Just wanted to share my joy of the moment!

  50. Started by HealthyLifeStyle,

It has been 7 months, and 2 days since my WLS. I finally hit my GOAL when weighing in this morning. I have never been this small in my adult life. It is such a great feeling, knowing that everything I worked for up to this point has been worth it. My ONLY regret is that I didn't do this 10 years ago. I have lost 81 lbs., went from a size 20 jeans, now in a size 6, (I posted a few days ago that I was a size 8, but my new jeans were actually too big, and I had to get a size 6). I am sooooooo happy!!! ?????
