Hello, I am on here because I recently had the Lap Band. Just 4 days ago. Im doing awesome. I have a few questions in regards to the diet as of now...the liquid diet. Im not sure if im suppose to be only eating like the broth and jello 3 times a day or does the 3 times a day rule come into play like after the 2nd week when you start to add the pureed consistancy foods. I feel fine. I think the majority of the inital pain was definatly the gas and the swelling. The gas was brutial. I was very glad that I was expecting this. If not I would have thought I was having a heart attack. WALK WALK WALK...that is definately what I reccommend, the walking really does help. Once…

I am trying to be patient and trying to arrange my appointments as quickly as possible before the Jewish Holiday season begins. I had my initial consultation on 1 Sept. I had booked the appointment two months before. I met with an endrochronoligist at the hospital where I will hopefully have the surgery and he looked at my history and bloodwork results from five months ago. He said that I was an excellent candidate for the surgery. He gave me a letter to take back to my GP and instructed the GP to arrange for more bloodwork, a 24-hour urine test, an ultrasound, an x-ray of my esophagus and stomach, and the psych exam. I am doing the blood work tomorrow and the lab wi…

Greetings: I'm new to the site, age 54,was banded 12-21-06,starting weight was 310,have lost 102 pounds so far-about 50 pounds per yr,seems slow but it has been a good slow loss and good for the tummy skin to take its time and not be hanging. Hoping this yr will be when I get to my goal- another 45-50 pds to go. Not always been easy, some slow times but I'm back on track with wt loss & inches. Would like to hear from anyone who has been banded in 2006 and know your ups/downs/etc.

  5. Hi everyone, I am a 29 year old mother of 2 children that has just been banded, 1 week ago today. So far I have had mixed feeling about it, but that has just been because of the discomfort. Now that is clearing up and I am seeing the weight come off (I know, already).. it is becoming all worth while. I started at 146.6 kgs (323lb), that was my weigh in before I started the Optifast diet, 2 weeks prior to surgery, so yesterday I went to weigh myself and discovered that I am already down to 132.9kg (292lb). I was shocked that I have dropped o much already. I was banded by Dr. Blair Bowden and the Wesley Private Hospital, in Brisbane. He was highly recomended and more e…

It is 2 AM and I can not sleep. I will be banded in 6 hours. I am not nervous, per se. I just want to get this over to get on with the rest of my life. I have been on liquid for 2 weeks. In the last 5 days my weight has stabilized and have only lost 0.4 lbs in the last 5 days. This really drives the point that I have to exercise. Since I am taking in less than 1000 cals a day, I will have to do something to kick start the weight loss again. I will post agian when I get home from the hospital on Thursday. I am keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.

Hello to one and all! I was banded in July of 2008. I have had mild success so far. I have lost about 35 pounds. I have not lost anything since Nov. but I have not gained either so I guess I have nothing to complain about. My Dr has suggested that I join a support group and so here I am. My partner and I had our bands placed on the same day so that we could be a support to each other, but I think we need others outside of ourselves for support. I live in Southern California. I am married and have three wonderful smart busy children. I look forward to hearing tips, tricks and ideas from those that have gone before and have had success.:wink2:

It seemed like it took forever to get through the process for approval by my insurance company. I am a registered nurse in Arizona and I am sincerely looking forward to the beginning of my new life. :tt2:

I have finally found a doctor that is under my insurance -- 3rd times a charm. :-) I hope to have my surgery in 4-6 weeks but that will all depend on my insurance. I have BCBS, and they require six months of some kind of diet program. I hope that the time with my therapist will do. I really do not want to wait six months. I have many health problems related to my weight and I am tired of being in poor health. I am glad this forum is here. I have been reading posts and everyone seems very helpful and informative.

Introductions are hard on the internet. No eye contact or body language. I will do my best to describe myself to everyone. I have always had a weight problem ( I am sure most of us are in that boat). Some years I would actually loose enough to feel good about myself and then I would gain it back again. I gave up trying about seven years ago. It just seemed like too much trouble. My back started to bother me alot and then I began to suffer from incontinence. The last straw was being diagnosed with diabetes. I am not a spring chicken and didn't want to spend the rest of my life sick. So, I started the process a year ago. My surgery is March 18th. I will not go on another d…

When I went to the doctor last for a case of bronchitis, I had a huge shock when I stepped on the scale -- 204!!! I'm 4'11. That gives me a BMI of 41.2. I've been maintaining at 170-180 for about the last 3-4 years. My highest weight ever was 244 when I was 19 and on birth control pills. When I wasn't in a relationship I decided to just throw them away -- they were costing me money and it wasn't like I was in danger of getting pregnant... my allegedly underactive thyroid got into the normal range within a month of coming off of them. I got down to 145 over a year, then have crept back up. The thing that changed me from the 170-180 up to this was dislocating my …

Hello everyone my name is Laceine, I was just banded on 1/20/09 in Juarez, Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez. My Dr was wonderful I did research and he is one of the first Dr's to perform the lapband and is considered one of the best bariactric surgeons in the world with well over 7,000 lapband surgeries performed, and 80% of them are Americans. The hospital was better than any hospital I have ever been in the states. It was more like a five star hotel. So forget what you have heard about getting banded outside the states. If you are a cash patient like me and don't want to pay $20,000.00 for your lapband surgery consider Dr. Rod. I only paid $7,000.00 with two nights stay and…

I was banded on December 8th 2008 and so far so good! I have lost about 20 pounds, so far, I just had my band filled again today. My surgeon is FANTASTIC and I highgly recommend him to anyone who is looking into getting the band, his name is Dr Steven Fass. He works out of Austin Tx and I think he has a few different offices that he works from. He is wonderful and is always willing to answer questions or concerns I have. Before the surgery he explained things to me in a way that I understood and answered all of my "dumb" questions!

Hi my name is Gabrielle and I was banded on 12/5/08 by Dr. Kuri in TJ. I had a wonderful experience there (better care there than I had in the states) and I have been excited for this journey. However, I have only lost 7 pounds since the surgery (now 11 weeks post op) and I follow all the rules. My concern, and I'm desperate for reassurance is the fill provider I've found here in California. I found a Fill Center USA and felt so lucky I was able to get in on opening day for this new center. My first fill was exactly 6 weeks post op, and the doctor was in "training" with another doctor. I was able (after a panic attack because I started to girgle up the water)to get a fill…

Greetings everyone. I have been lurking here for a week or so. I've struggled with my weight since I was a child (joined weight watchers for the 1st time @ 12). I can't count the number of times I have joined that program since then. I always seem to loose 20 or 30 lbs and then stall out completely. I did once go from 210 to 150 in a 6 month period of time after a very bad end to a long term relationship. LOL, that was the first time in my life I just could not eat! It was not the healthy way to do it, though! I have known several co-workers who had lap band procedure done and had great success. I was never sure if I would qualify or not, though. Hi, My name is Nancy and I just got banded on Friday, Feb 6th. I thought it would be a "breeze"..in and out the same day..and was pretty shocked by how crummy I felt. I spent the night in the hospital suffering from a lot of nausea. I went home the next morning but I'm pretty swollen and sore although today is better than yesterday. I've had a lot of heart-burn which I never had previously. I'm being very careful to sip as I was a big gulper before. I guess it just takes some time to adjust to this new lifestyle. My doctor said to take some Mylanta which does help. Anyway, I'm excited to introduce myself and meet other folks on this journey!
