Day 3,4,& 5

I keep forgetting I am on a diet! On day 3 I went to get my student some animal crackers, because it was after 5 and they are usually hungry by then. When I was getting them I was saying to my self I will get some extra for me and the other teachers. What the Hell! I hate having this habit.   Yesterday was day 4 and it went well I had enough energy to clean my kitchen. I am taking English comp 1 and I have been working on my final so that has helped to keep my mind off food. I worry that now that it is over I will be staring at thefridge.   Day 5 I am sick of the shakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is taking me every thing I do to choke them down. I will be going to the store later so I hope I can pick up a few things to liven them up!

Meal Replacement Day - 2

Ok so yesterday wasn't the best day, I felt terrible, had a headache and all I wanted to do was eat. I felt bad for my husband, because he felt guilty eating in front of me. It was hard, however the meal replacement isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but 15 days...YIKES. We are having friends visit from out of town, and what that usually means is "let's go to some of the great restaurants in downtown Chicago". I am going to pray for strength. It will be difficult but Ok. I am curious did anyone drink soda during this time? Also what about cream soups? Any suggestions will be grateful. Thank you and wish me luck! I just keep thinking ok this is what is best for me and my family. :smile2: Ok this is what is best for me and my family...I already said that, tee hee. All of your stories are very inspirational! xoxo

Going it Alone

I went back to work 2 weeks after my surgery. It was a great week that week -- everyone oohed and aahed over my baggy clothes and my skinny face, and my workout routine was formed with a friend from work who was my primary source of motivation and my "workout buddy".   We would work out together every day during the week. I drove up from my house, leaving at 4 am to get up to the gym by work by 5, work out and get ready and get to work by 7:30 or 8. She even brought me breakfast sandwiches (she would go home to get ready for work).   Then came a three day weekend. I did a lot of working out at my gym near my home, but she didn't, and she fell out of the routine. Since then she flaked on me every day this week. She won't talk about it and finds excuses and I can't say anything to motivate her.   I'm sad. It was more fun, less of a task, more challenging to work with her and I realize I have to do this on my own. I'm going to talk to her one more time today when she gets to work and if it seems like its not going to work out I'm going to "re-route" my thinking and my workouts to do them from the home gym instead.   Its early in the stages of my band, and I don't want to get off track so soon. I was already in a funk yesterday because I can't get a second fill until 8/6 (first one was 6/28), and I'm gonna need another one before then!       :confused:Thanks for letting me vent!

day after surgery

Surgery went well. :smile2: I didn't expect that the pain of the gas leaving my body would be so bad. Because of my insurance I had to stay in the hospital. At first I wasn't happy about it but now I am glad that it happened. The nursing staff was wonderful and very supportive. I can't believe how many people have had the procedure. Even the surgical nurse had done this, and she looks great. Many of the staff here have had the procedure done. Everyone had great success stories. Besides I think I got pampered a little more here than I would have at home. I got pain medicine through my IV which I think is better than having to take pills. I am both scared and excited. RIght now I don't feel like eating. I am sure that will change.

Time between....

I have my consultation in a week. I've already spoken with my insurance company about the surgery, and coverage should not be a problem :smile2:. I have been on a doctor prescribed diabetic carb controlled diet for the past three years, and believe it or not, have not lost weight, but maintained good blood sugars as well as my obesity. My BMI is 42, and I am a teacher with the summer off. I am wondering if it is possible to get to my surgery before school starts in late August.   What is the average time between consultation and band surgery? I will have a little time off during Christmas, but was hoping to have a good start by then.....want to start the New year shopping for new clothes, and feeling amazing.   Thanks!

Makeover For Me!

With my recent loss of 98 pounds, nothing fits me anymore - hooray, this is a good thing! So I went out and bought all new clothes, 10 sizes smaller in pants and dresses. I am down to a medium-large top. So my husband and I went out shopping, and the first place I went to was the plus-size department -that is where I went for so many years, so naturally I went there. So I began to take clothes off the rack and hold them up to me - and I had this weird expression on my face. My husband asked what's wrong? With a tear running down my cheek, I said everything is too big here! When I held the clothes up to me, I was lost behind them - you could not see me!   My husband said you are in the plus sizes - this is not your department any more. So I went over to the regular size department and I pulled out a size 14 pants and a medium top and went to the dressing room to try them on. My husband and everyone around the dressing room heard this loud thump - that was me falling against the wall with sheer amazement about what I saw in the mirror. "Is that really me?" I walked out of the dressing room parading my new look to my husband, who was smiling and laughing and said "way to go!" I left the store with my new clothes, and for several hours I was smiling in disbelief that I was in a size 14.   Yesterday, I decided it was time for a new look - a makeover to go with my new body, so I went to the hairdresser. I had my hair lightened - I am now a light auburn - and I had a major cut and style. I wanted my hair cut to frame my face instead of hiding it. I had my eyebrows shaped and lightened. I wore no makeup to the hairdresser so it would not run from the heat and the hair dye. So when I first sat down in the chair, my face looked a little drawn and tired looking. When I was finished with my makeover, It had taken at least 10 years off of my face - my face had a more perky look -I could not stop looking at myself - LOL! My husband told me I look like a million dollars!   For those of you don't think the LAP-BAND works - think again! For those of you who had LAP-BAND surgery and are at a plateau and are not seeing the scale move much lately - hang in there! Yes there where times when I felt that I could not do this, or looking at all the total weight I needed to lose. And even seeing the scale stop moving for a while. I just hung in there and never gave up hope. So this is why I say- please hang in there..   So this makeover for me has done wonders - I'm feeling better and looking better. Even other people can see the difference in the way I walk and in the way I interact with others - its a brand new me! I'm getting a lot more stares now - but in a good way. No longer do they say, "look at the fat girl" or "she has a pretty face"- and we all know what that means LOL.   I still have 30 pounds to go to reach my goal weight, and I'm sure I'll do that by October 26 - which is one year in.:smile2:   CHECK OUT MY BLOG FOR MORE ABOUT MY JOURNEY. http://life-after-lap-band.blogspot.com/

Feeling Really Good

Today is 6 days post surgery and I feel SO good. No more pain and my energy is coming back. I'm even amazed that my incisions are healing. I have been a little reluctant to get on the scale but today my co-workers noticed a slight change in my face. I am so happy to feel so good so quickly.   I am starting to feel hungrier...but nothing too bad yet. My friend said i'm still in the honeymoon stage with my band, but you know what I'm going to enjoy it and try to keep this motivation and excitement as long as i possibly can.   I post to keep myself on track and accountable. It really helps me.:smile2:

Question on Lap Band Foods

My friend invited me to her birthday which consists of a Sushi bar and drinking that hot tea they serve. I realized after she asked me...I don't think I will ever eat sushi again will I? We can't have rice can we?   I know I'm way to soon to even eat but her party is in a month.   Can or has anyone had a sushi roll once banded or is it a forbidden fruit?   I know pasta is out forever and soda but is rice also?

2 week post op milestone?

I am 2 week post op and finally I was able to see my doctor and dietition today. When I was told to get on the scale I was hoping for good numbers but to my dismay I had put on weight. I weighed myself on day 6 post op and at that time I weighed 368, which mean that I was down from the date of surgery 20 plus pounds. The nurse told me I was at 375, I really wanted to cry but when the doctor came in to talk to me, he informed me that gaining a little weight after I’ve healed is normal. That made me feel a little better but he also said that now that the swelling has completely gone down I must maintain a good eating regimen and work out as I was doing before. Also, I am officially on mushy foods which means, per the dietition that I can pretty much eat anything that can be cut with a fork. The clarification that I got from her is anything except for steak, chicken breast, breads and sweets. So when she told me that, I went straight to Denny’s for breakfast and ate scrambled eggs and sausage. Tonight I had a Chicken Caesar Salad from Boston Market. That salad was sooo good that I could not just put it down even though I was full. I felt so horrible when I was finished but I'm going to have to jog it off tonight. I don’t want to go down that horrible path so I really need to put in the work. I can’t wait to get my first fill… Come on August 17th!!!

So wonderful

I am so happy I had my surgery. Not only do I feel better, I am starting to look better and people are already noticing. 16lbs has made a huge difference to far. My life is turning around and I am enjoying things like actually sleeping better, not having as much knee pain and the gym has become a fave. I will be working with my trainer next Friday on weights!   But with all that aside, I have met some wonderful people on this website. I try to be encouraging so other people who may be a little nervous or on the fence about whether or not to have the surgery - NO DOUBT HAVE THE SURGERY, will consider the greatest gift they could have. But you all have been so inspiring to me. I love reading about how you all are doing. We cannot compare ourselve to anyone else because we all don't come from the same place, but I know anything is possible when I read about how great you are doing.   I love to come on and find a friend request or personal message. It truly makes my day. After working hard all day, I cannot get on line quick enough.   I know with hard work and my doctor's help I will lose the weight this time. My first fill will be in 2 weeks. I am motivated and have waited so long to be able to afford this surgery that I will keep going until every last pound I want to lose is gone.   Join me, let's keep eachother motivated and excited about this trek we are on. I am not naive; I know I will not have a weight loss each and every week (although wouldn't that be great?), and it is in those times I will need your support and a shoulder to lean on. Thanks for being there for me.   Have a great night everyone. Let's get thinner and healthier together. Eileen

confessions of an "Olive Gardener"........

Today we celebrated a special occassion w/some good friends... we ended up going to Olive Garden....I'm not gonna' lie and say that "i ate well", but i will tell the truth and say that i ate much better than I would have eaten just 2 months ago!!!! I did NOT have any breadsticks!! (and they are so yummy at OG!!) I did NOT have any wine! (I toasted with the glass, then poured the wine into my husband's glass! - smart!) I ate a small plate of salad but did NOT add dressing. I ate the tomato part of the Brushetta but NOT the bread!! (mmmm.... that is so good alone!! i never realized that before)!! I ordered eggplant parmisan (b/c it is mushy and i'm technically still s'posed to be eating "mush"!!!) but i did NOT eat all of the eggplant slices - only 2 or 3!! I did NOT eat the pasta that came w/it!! I did order desssert!!! (mmmmm.... that chocolate mousse thingie is to die for!!! and besides-its SOFT!!!! LOL!) but i did NOT finish it!!! only ate half!!! so i figure i ate far less than even 1/2 of what i would have normally eaten!!! so i'm still ahead of the game!!! :smile2:

1st Post Op Visit With Surgeon

Saw my surgeon today and he said I was glowing! Gotta love that man's bedside manner. Anyhoo what's really important is I told him I was concerned about my super slow weight lost. Had surgery 6/15 and I'm only down 17 pounds. Well Dr. Wonderful said I'm right where he wants me to be and my weight loss is going great for 3 weeks out. Ok! I feel much better and less like a loser at losing. By the by if anyone has a Whole Foods in their area I found the most delicious Pesto Parmesan Chicken Meatballs there. They are simply heat and eat and super tasty. Not to mention they puree very well. I'm at this food stage until next Wednesday and wondering if anyone might have some other quick easy pureed protein ideas? Now that I'm back at work I've got to keep things easy peasy!

just when I thought I was stuck in neutral....

It's been almost 9 months since my surgery, and just over a year from when I started the whole band process. Lately tho, I thought I was stuck in a holding pattern, a plateau of a huge magnitude. I went to my regularly scheduled appointment with my surgeon yesterday, and dreaded the walk to the scale. I even told the PA that I knew I had not lost one pound over the past 7 weeks. and he agreed with me.....since I had lost 3! I am not going to disparage the weight loss, since every single pound I lose is another one off of me. I talked at length with my doctor over my eating habits (and it helps that I track my food intake daily online) and I was totally honest with him - including a stop at Dairy Queen over the weekend - and my exercise routine. We decided to up the cc's in my band ( I had 6 since February) and now I am at 7 cc's in a 9cc realize band. Today, I feel full. Really full. I am following my doctors 4 day after fill diet, and I am ok. I know this weight loss plan is a journey - and not short one at that. and I am so happy I really did lose weight over the past few weeks....so here I am....keeping up with the "band"wagon!

Day 18 of pre-op liquid diet, one week til surgery, HELP

I still have only lost 4 lbs. on this pre-op diet. I do admit I have had a piece of hamburger patty several times. I go in to the doctor on Monday so he can tell me if my surgery will still be on the 15th, based on if my liver has shrunk? How is he really going to tell that? I am so worried that he will postpone the surgery and make me drink this crap for another whole week. I am so stressed. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!

My thoughts......

Today is my second day on this site, and I really love it. I am so excited. In a week from today, I go for my consultation. Through my research, I know that soda is a no no...I used to drink 3-4 bottles a day, and on the weekends, probably two two liters. I have gone 46 days without a soda....cold turkey. I drink green tea, water, and once in a while a G2.   I made my breakfast this morning, and for the first time really tried to watch my carbs....I am only allowed 60 a meal with my diabetic diet, and it worked. Lunch was incredible, too.   For supper, i am going to measure.....I am also practicing chewing my food and enjoying it....really tasting it. I am hoping because I have been under a doctor's diet for the past three years (counting carbs) it will boost my surgery date up.....I would really like it done before Christmas....I don't want to blow it all on Christmas dinner, and it would be really nice to start the New Year with a new body and attitude.   Have a great day!:smile2:

Dietician Meeting

I finally got my first meeting with the dieticican.. although it is not until the end of july. hopefully i can get all my meeting in a row... even better, hopefully i will only need that one meeting.. even tho i doubt that.... i am really pushing for an August surgery but since i can't really get in to see the dietician i doubt it will happen in August.. better yet before i have to go back to school...:smile2:.. i really didnt want to have to take off from school being as though im paying for it... i don't think i will be able to catch up missing almost two weeks of school work, and projects.... All i can do is pray that something opens up and i will be doing my pre-op first week of August.... Today seems to be a bad day for me... i have to dwell on not gettin an august date, and i have to go to work when all i wanna do is sleep.... I hope my travelers don't mind my B!%^& attitude today...

A pound up, but feeling GROOVY!

That pound I lost during vacation seemed to find me this morning. But I don't care, because I feel GREAT!!   I'm not too concerned because I ate fine yesterday and I ran at lunch. I'm sure it is just a body fluctuation that happens from time to time.   Yesterday, I went SHOPPING. I was SUPPOSED to be getting a pair of jeans since I'm down to only one pair that fits well and a pair of dress pants. ALL of my dress pants are too big. My company switched to jeans when we downsized, but we have to dress business casual when investors come calling. We have one coming in today and I wasn't sure what I was going to wear.   I started at Lane Bryant. My plan was to get a size 1 Blue pair of Right Size jeans. Imagine my surprise when the sales girl told me they have switched sizing yet again. Sigh. So I grabbed pairs of 14s & 16s and headed for the dressing room. I tried the 14s first and they were too tight. Not just jeans tight, but ill-fitting tight. In retrospect, I think they might have been petites. I tried on the 16s and they were loosey goosey. Ugh.   So, I moved on to Ross. I was picking up all sorts of dresses (not on the list) and a couple of shirts (not on the list) and a pair of jeans (yay!). I LOVED the dresses. I tried on 6 and ended up buying 4 (!) of them. I also bought the size 16W (woohoo) jeans. On impulse, I bought a shirt. It is sleeveless though so I fear it is one I will never wear.   Next I went to TJ Maxx. As soon as I walked in I realized that I had never been there before. Who knew? Anyway, their selection of Womens sizes left a bit to be desired, so I quickly moved on.   Dress Barn was on the way back to my car, so I stopped. I picked up a few pairs of jeans to try from the Womens side. I moved to the Misses side and on a mannequin was a dress I had tried on while shopping in Florida with my mom a couple of months ago. At that time, I tried on the XL and although it "fit" my body, the words "stuffed" and "sausage" came to mind. I picked that up to try on as well.   ALL of the jeans I selected were too big. WHAT?? YAY!! I went out and got a 14W and they looked great! I tried on the dress and although it is still too tight to wear, it actually fit! It was 50% off so I bought it as my inspiration. I will wear that dress when I go visit my brother's family in Louisville Labor Day weekend!!! I ended up with the jeans, the dress, a short sleeve jacket type cover-up thing, & two pairs of capri leggings. I'm on a big kick of wearing dresses (a little shorter than I might normally wear) with leggings.   The jacket I'm wearing in one picture is my "skinny" jacket I bought several years ago. It doesn't quite look super buttoned up yet, but it looks good over the dress.   I'm feeling like one hot mama today! Ha! I still have a LONG way to go, but it is so nice to feel good along the way.   I'm looking foward to my Volleyball road trip this weekend. Maybe I will find a cute Wichatan. :smile2: Have a great weekend everyone!!

LoseIt!

LoseIt!

Wanted: Stamina and Coordination :-)

Yesterday we did 45 minutes on the elliptical in the morning. All good. Last night I stayed at a local hotel to go to a Zumba class with my workout buddy, do some swimming afterwards, and enjoy our night without having to drive 90 minutes each way to get there.   I'm in the hotel, unpacking my suitcase and I realize my tennis shoes are in my trunk. I go downstairs with my workout clothes on and no shoes and we have a little earthquake, rendering the elevators inoperable. I walk up four flights of stairs (should be no problem after 4 weeks of ellipcial right?). NO. Winded and tired big time. OK, learned I might not be working as hard as I could be on the elliptical, or maybe need to do some stairmaster here and there?   We go to the Zumba class last night. Somewhere over the last 20 years I lost any ability to follow an instructor's moves, and any hope of coordination I had. I stood in the back and moved my feet and arms a lot and hoped no one on the street was watching. I worked up a big sweat and we left 5 minutes before the class was over as my friend was really warm.   But I'm going again next week, or even some time at my home gym this weekend. I'll never learn it if I don't keep trying!   I feel great this morning. Slept in instead of working out, and will go to water aerobics at the home gym at 6pm tonight instead.   I'd love to be able to follow the instructor, but I'm happy just with hanging around and getting exercise to music, so its all good.   Happy Thursday everybody!
