Thanks to all for the comments. I just love all the information everyone shares. Dr. Fass is also my surgeon and he really is good. He did tell me not to expect much weight loss the first 6 months. I'm looking forward to attending a support group. I live in southwest Austin and was wondering if there was a group down south or is the only one at Seton Hospital on 38th?

Dr Fass told me that too, here I am 4 months out and I am 76lbs down (~50 since my surgery, and ~ 20 on pre-op diet), He also says that I am completely stubborn so maybe that has something to do with it. I told him, I will loose weight, don't you worry, and I have.

Hello Everyone, I haven't been banded yet but I am getting my blood work and other appointment on Jan. 8. Hopefully I will have my surgery soon. I live in Elgin, Tx which is 20 miles East of Austin. My surgeon is Dr. Marquez and I will get my surgery in Round Rock. It is good to talk with people in my local area that has been through this or will be going through it. I have around 100 lbs to lose and I can't wait to start losing it. The support on the forum is awsome.

I attend two different support groups here in North Austin. One of them is a social group that meets every second Wednesday at TGI Friday's at La Frontera. We just sit around and socialize as we eat. The restaurant always breaks the bill into individual checks for us. I also belong to a support group at True Results that meets the last Thursday of the month. We meet at the True Results on Parmer Lane. They are great and welcome everyone!

Hello,

I was also banded by Dr. Fass. I attend the support group of southwest bariatrics at Seton Medical center. We get together the second Thursday of each month and we discuss topics that we choose in the begining of the year. We only have one party a year and that is for Christmas and we eat bariatric friendly food. We welcome everybody.

We can start a mini-group if we want to socialize more, and probably we can meet once every other month or so..I am open to do it.

Just let me know,

Thanks

Vicky

Are any of you near Elgin? I would love to have an exercise buddy because that is going to be my hardest thing to do.

Hello,

The Seton Medical Support group is open to everybody. The meetings are held the second Thursday of each month @ 6pm. IMO; I think it is easier to attend that group once a month than trying to schedule another meeting with our busy schedules. If anyone is interested in attending let me know I will provide info and the topics we are going to discuss..

Just my 2 cents,

Good Luck,

Vicky B

Hello,

The group has members from all different types of surgeries, lap band, gastric bypass, and gastric Sleeve; we talk as a whole group first and then we separated into small groups per surgery type and then we discuss or ask questions to our mates.

The next meeting is next Thursday feb.12,2009 @ 6pm.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
