Linda....just keep in mind that you cannot do it for your 2 stepchildren. It's kind of like us being obese. We had to have that "Ah-Huh" moment and Want to take control of our situation. What's sad about their situation though is that with every episode they have, it deteriorates their health a bit at a time. I know you feel it is dire that they get it now...I would feel the same way. I feel your frustration. I'm sure it is very difficult to sit and watch them time after time not "get it". Hang in there.

I have a friend that is 52 that has never really gotten it. She will do good for a couple of days and then right back to a diet filled with sugar and crap. A very self-destructive trait. It's almost like she has never gotten over her bitterness about getting diabetes. I feel for her but I am more frustrated with her than anything.

Yes, you are right, Apples, Thanks for the kind words. Like your friend, both my step kids are very bitter about "God picking on them by giving them diabetes".

Morning, it's the same old me singing the same old song... so I won't elaborate much except to say this time the pain hit right in the middle of buying DD's wedding dress and then to supper with DD, DF and Mimi for her birtday.... Horrible... I had just picked up a new bottle of medication and doc told me to take 2 if I needed it so I did.... 15-20 minutes later I was some better and actually made it home before I crashed from the buzz.... Awake again at 2:00 and then did my ususal thing... Back to sleep by 3:00......

Bought DD's wedding dress last night.. She looks beautiful in it... She was so afraid.... She isn't a girly girls and was scared we wouldn't like it or that Dad would say it was too much money.. It was very nice... Ivory with a champagne sash....halter type bodice....with a front pleat.... very pretty.... and not too bad... $600 plus a few incidentals.. Will have to pay for the bustling later come the fitting times.... Says she wants ivory flip flops.... I think they found the bridesmaids dresses, too..... that leaves me.... I'm lost ...don't even know where to start... Looked at the bridal shop, but was not happy about anything I saw..... I have to agonize over this for a while.... I would really like to drop 20 pounds by then so am not in a big hurry...

Arlene, glad your mother is better...

Janet, wish I could come help you with your work for a few days... I used to work as an assistant in an insurance agency once upon a time... too long a story to bother telling... But I could help do the gopher work.... I'm not good for much else these days.....

Apples, I'm sure you are busy again... What's for dinner....(noon)????

Deb, just get back on the horse.... I had ice cream on Sunday... homemade for Mimi's birthday party... Still have some in the freezer, too.... It's so good.....

Laura K, I sure understand why you are excited... And it was very considerate of you to invite the x to the party... You did it for your daughter and that you are to be proud of.... Good job...

Linda, I had a 1st cousin who died very young (28) from her diabetes because she just refused to do what was necessary to live with the disease... What a shame..... You're right about the fact that they know better... Why don't they get it..???

Joyce, thanks for understanding me and my need to whine!!!!! I hate it, but it's what I'm living right now...

Cheri, are your days better now??? I know you are so busy all the time, too.... Hope you enjoying life, too.

Well, paperwork on my list today... DD gave me permission to keep the "wedding log" as I am the organized one.... I'm a list maker and have just the book to do all the planning and list making... Got a few other things to do... Have to organize bars for our benefit concert on Sunday night.....

Hope you all have a safe, happy day... Love ya.... Julie

Apples, My DS is going but I have made the trip myself, it's not bad. It is 8 hrs to Houghton from here. 3 to the bridge and 5 across the UP. It will be nice my DS & I don't spend a lot of time together lately, GF. The 3 of us will have a night and most of a day before anyone else shows up. My Mom and Step Dad will be there fri afternoon/evening.

I know she will appreciate it if her Dad & Step Mom show up for her grad/going away party. I can handle them they have been over before. If I was really good I would invite his family, not sure if I can handle that. They are nasty people. I will ask her what she wants.

Hmmm wonder if I should invite the ex-step mom too.? That might cause some problems. I know I'm bad. Her & I get along ok. lol

Good morning from Salt Lake City. Haven't had much time to check in lately. Today I am meeting an old friend for an early lunch and then she will drop me off at the airport for my flight home. Yesterday we looked at homes and I am very depressed. Houses are more expensive here. I had the area and type of house all picked out in my mind that I wanted however, it's out of our price range. Sure we could still afford it but we are trying to downsize and save for retirement and only want a very small mortgage. However in another part of town (there's an east side vs west side thing here I want to live east but it's costly) on the west we could get a dream house everything and more that we want for a price we want to pay. So now I need to decide is it more important to me to live in the area I want or in the house I want? And since houses are still high here do we wait are they still going to crash in price a lot? DH feels bad as he knows I am depressed about it and he feels responsible. We actually had thoughts of reconsidering and moving to Atlanta instead. But it was only one day actually one afternoon of house hunting there still much to see on another trip.

Oon a positive note we are getting tons of showings on our house. No offers but about 2 a day so I am hopeful there, if only we can find something in Utah.

My hair isn't much different, a tad darker and she put a few more layers in it but DH couldn't even tell any was cut off.

Sorry no time to respond to everyone. Will catch up when I get home.

Julie...sounds like it was a good thing that you had meds with you and didn't ruin the moment. Times like you are explaining with DD picking out her wedding dress, makes me wish I had a daughter to do things like that with. Enjoy every bit of the preparations. Her dress sounds beautiful.

Nobody at the kitchen table until about 10pm. Packed my men their lunches. They are again 15 miles from each other in different fields so it works best just to pack a lunch. I was up early enough to get two different kinds of "guilt" Cookies so they can find a special treat in their coolers today.

My job today is to run between fields when they need a pickup or piece of equipment. Not a real taxing day but most likely on the run a lot. My big baby lab hear's the phone ring and runs for the truck b/4 I even say anything to him cuz he knows he's going for a ride with momma.

Great...sorry to hear of your housing predicament...patience, my friend. There has to be something out there and, as you stated, one afternoon of shopping is not much. Have you thought of something like a condo on the side you want to live in???? With all the travelling you DH and you will be doing, the lawn maintence, etc. being taken care of might be what you will need.

Do guys ever notice a new haircut? I came home a couple of years ago with my hair very, very light and DH did not notice until we went out and one of his men friends said he liked my hair blond.

Julie...good news on the dr visit. Hope he has some answers for you.

LauraK...hummmmm, sounds like you have many options for your DD's party. You could invite the whole gang and have a hair-pulling event? Are they that nasty??? You are right in asking DD who she wants there and I bet she would be considerate of her mom. I'll just wish you luck ahead of time and hope it's a wonderful time for her and uneventful for you!

Julie....I just had the pleasure of helping a friend of mine shop for a MOB dress. I checked and double-checked so many different sites and I kept my notes. The BEST for not-so-fancy and affordable dresses was at OneStopPlus. Just google it and you can even choose the price range you want off to the left of the screen.

They have so many in the $99-$129 price range and even some really nice ones that are between $50-$100 that are on clearance. They carry sizes 12W-44W and have so many styles and colors.

Take a look at the site and see what you think.

Julie...let me clarify about the not-so-fancy statement. I have no clue what your taste would be but just wanted to state that the dresses are dressy enough for a wedding but not all gobbed up with beads and sequins.

Sorry...junking up the thread again...Julie...when you google that site, it works best to type Plus size mother of the bride in order to get up the ones I was looking at. Just type it in and choose the onestopplus site

Julie - Ironing - sprinkle them roll them up put them in the freezer - yep I remember those days got 5 cent for everything I ironed - we ironed everything too Pillow Cases, my dad's boxers- and we had one of those rolling ironing things - We had a lady come in - she's like my Mom - Miss Charlene - when I was little (my mom had 3 kids born 55 56 & 58 (lost one in 57) so I guess she needed help for her mental stablity ;0) - but in like 64 I remember ironing - I don't do it often - I usually Iron as needed - I have to be in a mood to do it and I guess last night was one of those - but it's not all done ;0)..

ok Linda my next FF is 5/7 - going w/bff candy to Temecula - they have an old town area and the a casino we will hit - a girls weekend - leave friday come home sunday - looking forward to it..

I have same experience with ironing! Got paid a nickel a piece and we also ironed everything from pillow cases to Dad's boxers! Hated ironing! Then Earl was in the AF when we got married and I had years of having to starch and iron FATIGUES!! He was so particular about them I finally started taking them to the base laundry!

If you get a chance to go to South Coast winery while in Temecula, I think our step-granddaughter-in-law works on Fridays... Stephanie. Say "Hi" to her. She's a sweetie.

Hey, my name is Debra and I was just banded on April 7. I am 57 (until June anyway) and was invited to join your thread by Apples. I really appreciate it.

I start trying to get my band in Oct 08 and had a lot of problems with getting the right doc and hospital. Finally got banded three weeks ago and am doing well.

My surgeon did not require a preop diet but I was pretty strung out on sugar so I did my own based on what I had read about on Forum. I had two Protein Shakes (I mix my own from soy milk and soy Protein Powder from the health food store), Breakfast and lunch and lean meat and low carb veggies for dinner. I lost 23 pounds before surgery and have lost 7.6 since surgery. Doesn't sound like too much, but feels really good to me. Feels great to be off the carbs.

I am diabetic, was on Metformin, but already off that and blood sugars are as good as before on the meds. I have hypertension, high cholesterol, apnea on a C-pap, reflux, knee, back and hip pain, and generally felt lousy. already feeling better.

I go in for my first fill next Tuesday. Just started experiencing some hunger yesterday. Still eating just lean meats, Protein shakes and low carb veggies. No starches and not really missing them.

Started walking 30 minutes and it is a push at theis point. At one time, 20 years ago, I was running in 5K races (never very fast) and I would love to feel like that again. Not usre I can ever really run again, but maybe.

Thanks for letting me join in.

Hey Froggie (Debra)...welcome. Sounds like having taken the steps to have this surgery has been very adventageous for you. Off some of your meds and your weightloss thus far is really great and you are making an attempt to get in your exercise. Good going!

There's a few here that are in the early stages of their journey, some a year out and a few beyond that. I admire you for taking the steps to put yourself on a pre-op diet even though your doc did not require it. Kind of sets the stage for what is to come and better for you in the long-run.

Have any questions or concerens????

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
