3 days post op and gaseous, sorethroat,

Recommended Posts

:rolleyes2: Hi, I am 3 days post op and I am still dealing with gas after I drink liquids of any kind. I am not throwing up and it is staying down, but I think I am not taking in enough liquids. My throat is sore, they did put a pipe down during surgery, anyone else experience this? The back of both calves seem like they are trying to cramp up. I can get a little bit more liquid in today without extreme gas pains. Any support would help. I hope this is going away soon.

Sore throat is common after any surgical procedure where you are intubated.

Your calves issue could be because you are not getting enough hydration. However, if you continue to have this problem, you should get it checked out -- don't want to have a circulatory issues.

I've not had my surgery yet -- someone else may have an answer for the gas issue.

Good luck to you.

I didn't have any gas problems but I had a killer sore throat for 2 weeks.

Did they give you exercises to do on your legs post op to prevent circulation problems and clotting problems? Did they put on stockings for your op or give you blood thinning injections or anything else to prevent DVT?

Just keep an eye on the calves and if the discomfort continues go to the Dr. A feeling of cramping can be the beginning stage of DVT. The pain will eventually get to the stage where your calf is that tight it feels like your calf is going to explode and compression on it eases the pain. I went through all this last November (not from surgery though) so I know the symptoms well.

Hi, yes they did give me medicine for it and but on some type of pads on my legs. They told me to walk for circulation, which I have done everyday.

Had surgery yesterday!!!! I do experience some calf pain at night when I sleep. Blood circulation is the key here. Walk as much as you can during the day to prevent that pain. The sore throat is normal, the tube used for intubation does make it sore. Not having any Fluid problems. But it will all pass, can't wait for the soreness to go away!!!! Good Luck!!!

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
