Finding a nutritionist

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am scheduled for sleeve surgery in June. I am pretty sure that I am going to NEED a nutritionist after my surgery. One that is experienced in bariatric surgery patients. I have been seeing one at the hospital where my surgery will be done, but I am not sure she is right for me. How would I go about finding someone? I tried googling it, but I only seem to be coming up with nuts from other surgical programs. Would they take an "outside" patient?

You might start by searching for nutritionists that are in your insurance network. I know mine has several in my area, and yours might as well. Once you see if any are in your network, then you can look for reviews for that specific person/persons.

I'll do that. Thank you. I just don't feel that the one I have at the hospital is knowledgeable enough. Ex. She didn't know what an example of a "hard" cheese would be.

I have found that nutritionists are very hit or miss. The one in my surgeon's practice is actually pretty good, but I figured out a long time ago that she couldn't help me very much. I know exactly what I need to do, and I just do it. That responsibility is on me...

Maybe after surgery I'll see that I CAN do it myself. Maybe it's just my lack of confidance. I'm always afraid I'm doing things wrong. I DON'T want to fail at this!!!!

I would recommend a dietician instead of a nutritionist. There are no national standards for nutritionists, so anyone can take an online course and call themselves one. Dietician go through a degree program and there are national standards

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
