I am almost 3 months post op. I feel hungry all the time. My calorie goal is 600-800 a day but I've been closer to 900-1000. Carbs are definitely my weakness. I have a really hard time getting enough protein- sometimes I get really nauseated by meat and Protein powders make me vomit.

When I drink Water if I feel hungry it makes me nauseous.

My starting weight was 313 and I am now at 270. But I have been at 270 for about 2 weeks.

How many carbs are you having per day? That is probably part of your issue...

The more carbs you eat the hungrier you are going to be. meat keeps you full.

Think of you sleeve as a muscle, if you don't exercise is won't work as well. So if you don't eat meat, you won't be able to eat meat.

900-1000 Calories are fine if you are under 25 grams of carbs a day, and exceeding your Protein goals

It also sounds like you could use a PPI if you aren't already taking one.

What is a PPI?

I range between 50-100

I'd get them below 25. I have kept mine below 20 for almost a year now. It has been key to my success.

Net carbs 25 grams or less, you can subtract the Fiber.

It sounds like you are suffering from Gerd in addition to making bad food choices.

Available proton pump inhibitors include:

  • omeprazole (Prilosec, Prilosec OTC)
  • aspirin and omeprazole (Yosprala)
  • lansoprazole (Prevacid, Prevacid IV, Prevacid 24-Hour)
  • dexlansoprazole (Dexilent, Dexilent Solutab)
  • rabeprazole (Aciphex, Aciphex Sprinkle)
  • pantoprazole (Protonix)

I am at exactly the same place. At least I am not the only one! I truly feel your pain!,

Man, it stinks! I am going to work really hard to get my carbs way down and take the acid reducer I have. Hopefully, that will lead to some improvements and the weight loss will start back up.
Let me know how you do!

Focus on the % of nutrients and not necessarily the number. Remember, not all carbs are bad, nuts, greens etc. are good and your body still needs the fuel to burn. As you move out further from surgery, you will naturally increase the calories in your diet, this means an increase in the Proteins, fats and carbs. As you been calories throughout the day you will offset the same not just in calories but in nutrients too. My nut set my targets to protein-50%, carbs-20%, fats(good fats) 30%. Good fats are things like avocados, nuts, fish etc.

I have been losing at a steady healthy pace following this and it is MUCH easier to track than the specific numbers and having to determine the gaps. Myfitnesspal has a great program for this. Good luck.

I use that ap and I really like it. I know I've got to get the Protein up. I will watch the percentages more carefully. Thanks!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
