Mexico Vacation - What to expect 3 months out

Recommended Posts

My husband and I have a trip to Cabo San Lucas in November that we have had planned for a while, and I'm a little nervous about leaving my Protein to chance.

Right now I am still reliant on my Protein shakes for a lot of my daily protein, but I'm hoping that will change between now and then. Has anyone taken a trip at 3 months out? If so, were you concerned about getting your protein and what did you do about it?

I don't fly very much, so I'm not familiar with restrictions on packing certain items. Would it be okay, for example, to pack a ziplock bag with Protein powder and a shaker bottle? Any other suggestions? Or am I concerned for nothing?

Some of the powders also come in little, individual packets which I prefer when crossing the border - Canada likes things in their original packaging. I took a handful of the nectar packets; a shaker bottle; a couple of Protein bars; and some shelf stable turkey meat sticks during my last trip to Vancouver. I often had a partial shake before going out to help me make good choices . Consider bringing a snack and Water bottle for the plane, too. And you can always search online for what's currently allowed.

I thought about ordering the nectar packets. They are recommended on my surgeon's plan, but I haven't tried them yet. Are they good? That sounds like a great idea.

Depends on your personal tastes. Some places sell samples of different flavors - I'm planning on doing that soon. I think the Fuzzy Navel mixes okay with plain Water in a shaker cup, though if I make it too strong I get that sugar-free sno-cone Syrup vibe. Just a little diluted, it reminds me of ... Tang? Or Orange Julius? I really like the vanilla with almond milk, but I could almost certainly manage it with Water and ice. Everyone's tastes are so subjective, though.

Mybariatricpantry.com has samples of the nectar, the Matrix, and I think the Click? I also really liked the Chike iced coffee Protein as a pre-op, though I haven't tried it again since surgery. I had to travel back and forth to rural East Texas a lot pre-op. My dad had pancreatic cancer and those packets kept me on track through all the flights, family meals, and hospital stays.

I hope you have a great trip!

I'm in the same boat as you - we're headed there the firs week of December when I'm only 90 days out. I'm can't wait to hear the suggestions!

I guess it's less weird for me since I have about a million food allergies . I've been the crazy woman who pulls three types of Snacks out of her purse for years, hence the packets of Protein powder, turkey meat sticks, Protein bars, and little packets of almond butter or shelf stable olives.

I'm less than a week post-op, so who knows what's going to work for me long term. Let me know what works for you ladies - it's not a trip without an emergency snack bag

I feel like this is me! Between old meal prep habits from when I was losing "naturally," being a mom, and having a son with food allergies... I'll be snack packed to the max post op ????

Quest makes individual packets of Protein powder as well, they have them by the counter at GNC. I'm 3 months out and have traveled both internationally and domestically several times since surgery. I bring the Quest packets and a Blender Bottle with me when I travel.

Lately I've been packing turkey Jerky for trips as well. Came in handy on my last trip when my hotel room didn't have a fridge.

@@bitingcat I have food allergies as well. Starting to become a purse snack person! Hard for me remember they are for emergencies though, and not just snack because they're there.

By 3 months out you will be fine to travel. I went to San Pedro island 3 months out. I didn't have any issues at all. You can eat regular food by then. Look for Protein items on the menu and skip the sides no problem. I also would eat off my husbands plate, since I couldn't eat much. I also packed my bag with protein bars, laughing cow cheese, and beef Jerky for filler items. I brought half of it back home. I never had issues finding food that I could eat. I had my surgery over a years ago now. I have been out of the country numerous times without issues. I actually have more fun now then before, since I have so much more energy and can do what I want. Go have fun! Don't stress! It will have a great time.

I am taking my partner on a tour of southeast Asia as a graduation present for 3.5 weeks in December-January (which will be about 3 months post-op for me). I am planning on taking Protein power and a shaker to use as needed, but I am hopeful I'll be transitioned back to regular food (low carb/high protein) at that point. This is also the first time I'll probably have any sort of alcohol, but we'll just have to see how that goes when the time comes...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
