Is one week post-op (but 3 weeks total out including pre-op) eligible for the dreaded 3-week stall?

Recommended Posts

Started liquids 9/4, sleeved 9/19. Lost 14 pre-op, 6 post-op, but scale hasn't budged. Is this the stall I hear about? I'm not freaking out or upset, just mind blown to stall one week post-op!

It's too soon past major, traumatic surgery to expect any sort of rhyme or rhythm to weight loss or anything else. Stay off the scale for a while because the "information" it gives at this early stage is meaningless.

Okay. Thanks, @@Bufflehead!

Hey, unrelated, when does the killer halitosis end? I have the breath of death over here, despite brushing constantly and eating nothing.

I'm on the same schedule as you (except I started pre-op 9/9) but my belly is still so bloated from the surgery that I know I'm holding weight from that. Think of all the carbon dioxide that is pumped in to perform the surgery, the IV fluids, the swelling - we're still healing from all that.

@@Heather I that sounds like ketosis breath. For many people it goes away after a couple of weeks, others not until they start eating more carbs. It's something that happens in your bloodstream -- all the brushing and mouthwashing in the world won't change it, though some find that sugar free mints can help mask it. Good luck!

My surgery was 9/13 and I hit the stall too. It shocks me that my body is getting less than 500 calories and the weight isn't dropping. A bit frustrating for sure.

Same here. I was sleeved on 9/12. Had been losing about a pound a day. I decided Sunday to not weigh until today and only down 2 pounds. I'm in the soft food stage, getting about 40 ounces of Water per day and walking 3 miles 6 days a week. I feel really down today.

I did a search on "stall" and there is a very good post titled "Embracing the stall." I tried to copy and past here but could not get it to work. If you are able to find it, there is good information.

Mine did the exact same thing. Lost 9 the first week and then nothing for 10 days. Just be patient. It'll come.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
