If you don't feel comfortable get a second opinion and do more research. My Dr suggested that i change from the Band to Sleeve and that rattled me so I understand. But the more research I did and the more I talked to him I realized he had my best interest with his recommendations.

I can understand your fear... as my date for surgery got closer i was so scared i really considered not doing it. But i was lucky i have a friend whos 2 yrs post gastric bypass and after talking to her i felt better... still a little afraid. I hate surgerues..needles and all that stuff. But i had my surgery on april 27th and it was easy...didnt have alot of pain post surgery (i walked a couple hours after surgery). Everything has been great :) ive lost 53 pounds since my surgery. I really now feel its the best thing ive ever did for myself. My advice is to find a dr your comfortable with.

Hi Maulmomma,

It is a natural response to a life changing event like bariatric surgery. I also have degenerative back disorder and fibromyalgia and a long list of other stuff that I wont go into right now. The most important thing is that you are doing the surgery for your own benefit. My doctor was so supportive and emphasised that it is only a tool for a healthier life style. And our goal is that I have a better more healthy life when looking at the next 20 years than the last 20 years. You will struggle. It is a committment, and it takes want and need on our part. Your life will change. If like me you and your significant other spend your quality time eating at a restaurant or out with friends, you will be looking of new hobbies. This eating out was not a healthy choice for me or the only choice, but I had to find other outlets and cultivating the artistic side, gardener, animal lover was hard. Make sure that your support person(s) are understanding of your new situation and be open with them.

I had an modified Roux-n-y with a gastrectomy done October 28, 12015. My body is the poster child for if it can happen or have a negative response it will happen, even with the best surgeon some repairs may be needed after initial surgery which is why a support system of friends and/or family is important. I was released from the hospital on December 1, 2015 and on tube feeding due to my own bodies response to having a double hernia and collapsed lung which were found and repaired during bariatric surgery.

I have been doing better at eating real food with less nausea and dumping symdrome over the last 2 months but I had a secondary hernia (2x), fixed because of trying to overdo weight limits and not listening to my own body when I wanted to do too much. So listen, listen and listen to your surgeon.

Happy news this morning I have lost a total of 145 lbs and went from 285 to 140lbs and from a size 24b into a size 8 or small clothing. I have more energy and less migranes, less fatique (still some). It took years for us to become heavy people so dont expect overnight success. Only weigh yourself once a week and look inward to the things you have always wanted to pursue. It has saved my life and given me time to relook at who and what I want to really focus on.

I hope this helps you post-299076-0-43768000-1472416194_thumb.jpg

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
