Anyone have Silicone Toxicity from Lap Band?

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric band in 2003 and have been very ill with all the symptoms of silicone toxicity but have been yet to be diagnosed with same. Lyme disease has also got all of the symptoms that I suffer except I wasn't bitten by a tick. Basically every system in my body has been affected from depression to cardiac symptoms but all tests come back normal. I've had MRI, PET Scan, Echocardiogram,ECG all normal. The only thing out of whack is my blood work. I have a CRP level that keeps rising for mo apparent reason, thus indicating inflammation in my body or infection but as I said tests are normal. I'm seeing a Rheumatologist who has diagnosed me with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and the treatment for this is prednisone which I've been taking since Sept 2015 with no good response. My CRP keeps rising and I am still in pain and suffering. Can anyone please tell me if they've experienced symptoms of Silicone toxicity after having lap band?

Yes I have extreme fatigue and insomnia as well as numbness and tingling in my hands and feet.I am waiting to see a Bariatric surgeon to see if he thinks it's a possibility but the wait list to see him is about 72 weeks as it's considered non emergency.

That is ridiculous. I called the clinic where I had it done and spoke to a nurse. Right away she said that the band could not be causing the problems. I insisted on speaking with the doctor and was advised that he could call me next Friday. I mentioned silicone toxicity and the nurse dismissed it quite quickly. I am not so sure. I am going to make an appointment with a homeopath to see if they can do other blood test. Mine initially started when the doctors thought I had a heart attack. Except for the pet scan I have had the same tests and my family doctor keeps saying that it is in my head and has prescribed various depression medications and nothing has worked. I am not depressed I am very frustrated. .

You know I had the same exact symptoms I had my band installed October 2011 and all my symptoms started January 2012. The doctors thought I have lupus then all kinds of other symptoms. They ran all kinds of tests all came

Back negative. Then I was sent to endocrinologist my I was placed on 50 mg med for hypothyroid. I was healthy before the band and had no issues. My bloodworks shows inflammation but they can't figure out why. So finally I took out my band yesterday and I am doing better all ready. I think I had toxicity from the band.

@thinnerS where did you have it removed? Do you know if the band creates a casing of skin around it? I've done research on silicone toxicity and breast implants and they say it's not enough to remove the silicone breast. There is apparently a casing that forms around the silicone breast hat also has to be removed and wondering if it's the same with the lap band?

hello, I removed my lapband last year. I still had the same symptems and this year about a month ago I removed my breast implants. I am feeling much better. Yes you can have breast implant illness silicone toxicity. Google breast implant illness and check the symptoms compare it to yours. I went to a specialist he removed the capsules around the implants. My implants were removed and they gave it to me it has alot of particles inside if the Water. My implants were sweating into my body and causing symptoms. If you have any question I will be happy to answer. I can also refer you my docter.

My docter removes at least 4 implants per week due to silicone implant illness.

@thinnerS thank you. Do you know if the lap band has a casing as well? I don't have implants but know of a few people that do, which is why I knew about the casing. I'm wondering if you have to find a specific surgeon to remove the lap band so it is done properly (just like you have to find a specific surgeon who will remove the implants and the casing)

im glad you're feeling better! Very scary.

I'm allergic to silicon from breast cancer implants but don't know how you'd know otherwise. I'm so sorry for you as I almost died before they figured it out.

yes there is scar tissue around the lapband. My docter told me this. However they do not remove that and it stays around your stomach. It eventually shrinks, but I've never heard if anyone removing that. I sometimes still get stuck episodes and my docter says its from the scar tissue.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
