Oddly enough, I was never a coffee drinker prior to surgery. I was definitely a caffeine addict though but my crutch was Diet Dr. Pepper. I gave that up in October 2013 and haven't touched it since then. However, I have picked up the coffee habit over the past 6 months(thank you grad school). I usually have a cup in the morning with splenda and sugar free non dairy Creamer. I treat myself to Starbucks about once a week but I usually get a skinny latte.

Bulletproof with stevia & Monk Fruit powder for me. To get my coconut oil/butter through security I freeze it and pull it out right before I leave. The baristas will look at you funny but 9 times out of 10 when I ask them to dump my Americano in the blender with my stuff, they do it. You can add unflavored Protein powder to it and have the same protein/calories as a Protein shake with none of the carbs but this is not for the fat-averse.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but what part of coffee drinking is so bad ? The coffee itself ? Or the milk / sweetner that goes in it ? The caffeine ? What and why is it bad ? Just curious, I dislike coffee ( sorry, but the smell nauseates me.....) but love regular hot tea in the morning, and a cup of Decaf tea in the the P.M. , both with Splenda and a little milk. How is that or coffee so bad ?

It's the caffeine. It supposedly interferes with Calcium absorption. I also think that it can cause dehydration (acts as diuretic) post-op which can be a concern . Many still drink coffee and tea though. If you do - you don't want to add cream/sugar. Some use Protein Shakes in their coffee instead.

In my information book from my RD it said caffeine causes hunger. Never heard that before, but I'm avoiding it anyway.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
