All I can say is UGH! It is my worst side affect. I have never had this problem before! Don't ever let it get past 5 days before you actively treat it. A trip to the ER for impaction isn't pretty, believe me!

I have opposite problem. 8 weeks out from surgery and haven't had a solid BM in all that time. I am taking 15-25 grams of Fiber in Gummy form each day to try and solidify things. I have terrible intestinal gas and I Must know know where the bathroom is. Currently eating 4 oz of Protein three times a day, 1/2C vegetables once a day, and I/2C fruit once a day. I walk three miles seven days a week. I see the surgeon for a three month checkup July 8. Hope he has some answers for me. Can't live the rest of my life like this. Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Those Fiber gummies can be a great help however, they can also cause loose BM, they have sugar alcohols in them (not to be confused as sugar). They also cause GAS so they might be your problem or at least part of it. They say on the box itself that they can cause gas and not to exceed one serving a day which is generally two gummies equal to 5 grams of fiber. They will not bind you, on the contrary, they will have the opposite effect.

If you are eating fruit, try one that can be binding such as banannas. Also, you might want to see your doctor to have a test to see what could be going on in your intestinal tract.

Change up the veggies you are eating and see if that helps. Also, perhaps you need more Protein in the form of meat, seafood or other non-fiber forms - some Protein sources such as Protein shakes and other processed protein foods for bariatric patients contact fiber and/or sugar alcohols.

Good luck.

PS, Four ounces of Protein three times a day is not enough Protein for a sleeve patient. My doctor recommends 70-80 grams a day. Eat more protein and that might solve your issue. Unless your doctor told you to eat the amounts of veggies and fruits you are eating a day, you are eating too little.

Try to get 70-80 grams of protein a day, 20-30 grams of fat, and 50 grams of carbs a day and see if that helps (that is if your doctor clears you for those amounts).

Oh my! 12oz of Protein is not enough Jbl. My surgeon recommends 100g a day. Keepingmysecrets has some good advice for you; definitely ask your surgeon about getting the okay for other sources of Fiber. Possibly Fiber One bars in your extreme case?

12oz of steak = 75g of protein

12oz of chicken = 66g of protein

12oz of fish = 60g of protein

Unless she's not eating any other sources of protein, that's more than enough. Protein can also cause Constipation, so you might change up the type of protein you're eating to see if that helps.

Smooth Move tea has been a Godsend for me! More effective than Miralax, and it's a nice calming break in my day. If I drink in the evening, all is better in the morning. No cramps at all. You do not want to go more than a few days between bm's--very uncomfortable!

For those of you drinking smooth move thinking it's better for you than a laxative, please know that smooth move uses senna, which is a laxative. Laxative are very easy for your colon to become dependent on.

If you want to take something regularly to get regular, gradually increase Fiber or add an osmotic like Miralax. Miralax draws Water into the colon and does not work on the muscles of the colon making them unable to function on their own.

Yea I recommend taking Miralax or a lil bit of fiber every day I had to go to the hospital due to impaction. It was embarrassing and painful to say the least. Lesson learned!

I had a bad case of Constipation about 1 week post op. I had to have an enema and took Miralax twice a day for 3 days. Then I went on daily stool softeners and Miralax every few days. I wasn't prepared for how bad the constipation could get. I wasn't "regular" prior to the surgery and it has been intensified by my new diet.

I used Miralax, when I experienced Constipation in the beginning. Now I eat a couple of prunes in the morning, if I need something to get me moving.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
