Gas And Bowel Movements On The Plane Ride Back

Recommended Posts

Okay, I was embarrassed to ask this question but I became so paranoid over it that I just have to know. How was the plane ride back from your surgery? Were you embarrassed by passing gas or did you have gas on the plane (gas from the surgery)? Did you have a bowel movement on the plane?

I, for one, am glad you asked this! I was too embarrassed to ask. ????????

I understand that several drs release the gas at end of surgery. I know that Dr. Hidalgo in PV does this.

I didn't have any real issues with the gas. It isn't the same as "gas" from digesting food... it is just the leftover air they pump your stomach up with. I don't even remember burping much or anything unusual. As for the BM, most people don't have one for several days after surgery. There is nothing to form one.

The gas you have from surgery isn't the sort you "pass". It is trapped inside of your body cavities, not your digestive system.

I didn't have any issues on my plane ride home in terms of gas and you DEFINITELY won't be having bowel movements. You won't have eaten anything for DAYS at that point, so there will be nothing to get out.

The gas in your body actually is absorbed into your body and "passed" out the natural way. You may also burp some too. BUT it's nothing terrible and I found it had zero smell as I hadn't eaten anything to give it smell. Also, same as the others have said, you won't have a BM for a few days, my advice and I've read a lot of horror stories about impacted bowels! Don't go more than a few day without, take Miralax or something similar if you go more than 4 or 5 days without. Its not worth the risk of waiting!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
