I'm gonna tell you something the PA told me at my pre-op appt. and it has saved my life getting through this process. I had surgery 3/16 and I have been crazy trying to get my head around 4 weeks (2 wks pre surgery and 2 wks post) of liquids. She said chew sugar free gum. JUST DONT SWALLOW IT!!!!! ( it could cause a blockage). I am very careful but it truly has saved me from going completely bananas!!! And it's a sweet treat. My favorite is Juicy fruit. Hope this helps!

That is good advice! I have to say though, I am always baffled by the differences among surgeons. I was only on liquid 3 days prior and soft food after. I never had to purée anything at all, just soft food then increasing in texture until week 7, when I could eat anything. Good luck, whatever the sacrifice, it is worth it!

Juicy fruit is not sugarfree.

Thanks for sharing that; I stand corrected. I have never noticed it on the shelf, just probably assumed it was the same old sugary one. I love Juicy fruit too!

See that is crazy because I was told to never ever chew gum again. I didn't chew it before anyway but it was a no-no for life.

That's what I thought too!! But I am a physical therapist and talk ALOT during the day so I always chewed gum to keep my mouth from getting dry. So I talked to my PA about it before bsurgery and she said I can still chew it JUST NEVER SWALLOW IT!!!!!! I could cause a blockage. Maybe that's why you were told never again to chew gum. They are afraid of the 'accidental' swallowing of it. But truthfully I chew it at night watching tv. It's like a dessert taste for me and then I don't crave 'real' dessert. But I certainly don't want to encourage bad habit that your doc says no to.

Peppermint gum is a real help for nausea and other stomach discomfort.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
