Where's the heat?

Recommended Posts

I live in a 17 story apartment building built in the early 1960's. I can't set the heat myself...no thermostat. So I'm at the mercy of the boiler in the basement. I've been in this apartment for almost ten years and usually have to keep a window partially open in the winter along with sometimes running the ceiling fan because I was plenty warm even in the coldest months. In fact, I've needed my heavy comforter just a handful of times over the years.

So last winter, I give in to the cold and pull out the comforter and close the window and chalk it up to 100 lbs. less of me and the polar vortex the weathermen screamed about. Fast forward to this year and the blast of cold air we've been dealing with this week and me shivering unless I'm wearing layers. And that's in the apartment...not walking around outside. I'm wearing flannel to bed and two quilts (just not ready to pull out the comforter yet). I keep checking the radiators to see if the heat is coming up and it is. Since last winter, I've dropped another 45 or so pounds and didn't think that would have made such a difference but I guess it does because I went from a sweat monster a couple of years ago to someone who is often chilled to the bone these days. Even the fella complained about my cold hands and feet the other day. Was a good opening for me to tell him to warm me up, but that's another story...lol.

Amazing how many things are affected by our size that we just don't realize. Have a great weekend everyone!

I look forward to this. I am so sick of being sweaty when it's 15 out and I'm coming out of the subway all sweaty. Forget about the summer!!!!

I used to look like I just got out of a shower, I'd sweat so badly just moving around...not like I was exercising or anything like that. Now I hardly sweat at all but...be careful what you wish for. Sweetie, I'm always cold...even in air conditioning. I'm bringing a sweater with me to Florida because I get cold in the house, or a store/restaurant. I feel like I'm channeling my Nana (may she rest in peace) sometimes..lol.

Yep. I spent many a day at work embarrassed by my profuse sweatiness. Now, I freeze to death. All the time. Some say your body will eventually adjust. I'd like it to be soon, or I won't survive the winter. Lol

I was an auto mechanic. I could not test drive cars as the seat would be soaked after a test drive. Lost 80 pounds. I live in Florida. Have to wear a sweat shirt or jacket this time of year as I am always cold. Best to be cold as I can always put on more clothes.

I love how we're all just skipping over the comment about the fella knowing your feet are cold. You go, girl!!!

On a serious note (yeah, right!) I am wearing sweaters for the first time in decades. Never needed them before, plus, they accentuated my fat rolls. Now I need them. I also bought a cute little mini-infinity scarf while shopping with my daughter last week and I wear it at my desk at work. It's probably meant for outerwear, but that little extra warmth helps. Next is getting a pair of mittens because my gloves don't keep my fingers warm enough.

I used to be hot natured when I was a normal weight. I don't know now if it's the weight loss or what but even my skin seems thinner somehow and my feet are also always cold, and I have over 100lbs yet to lose.

Don't know exactly how old you are, but I was constantly hot flashing for the last 20 years or so. Ive been banded 3 yrs now, and yes im still hot flashing occasionally, but am at the tail end of menopause. ( finally !). Since I run alot colder now the best thing , besides wearing layers, is wearing a warm scarf every day, all day and a knitted hat / beanie too. Yes, I even wear the hat to bed. I found that when my neck and head stays warm the rest of me stayed warm too. Made all the difference !! Good luck !

Even in Florida where I am it's cold. not as cold as NY of course but with weight loss your body gets colder. I guess we don't have the insulation we used to have.. I have on thermals today temp is 54 outside . We have to keep adjusting the heat for me . I used to be so hot I'd be miserable , couldn't sleep with any covers and as little pj's as possible. Now it's socks, blankets and flannels.. lol

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
