I went under at 9:30 am and not fully awake and conscious until midnight.

I was not prepared for this gas pain in my chest. It burns so bad to take a tiny sip. I hope this goes away soon as I am so thirsty.

No nausea or hunger at all.

I did something really bad. I stuck to Optifast perfect for 3 weeks. Then the day before surgery I decided I would have my last supper!! It was Korean bbq, just the lettuce and the bbq. The guilt was too much and I was ashamed to stumble on last day!!

In any case, how long does the gas pain last for most? I've been walking around but it still sits in my chest.

I woke up thing, what in the heck have I done to myself?

The gas is the worst! It is different for everyone like everything in this process. TMI but I didn't pass gas for about 36 hours despite all my walking (I was pretty convinced they used extra gas on me it hurt so bad!) the nurse told me it can take up to 3 days to pas gas and I was in so much pain at that time that I cried because the pain meds didn't do much for the gas!

I have never been more elated about a burp/fart, but to be quite honest I still had gas pain in my chest, shoulders and back here and there until day 5. I'm on day 7 now so there is no saying I won't get more, but I'm feeling pretty good today.

The only thing I know to do is walk as much as you can tolerate, the nurse also gave me an antacid on day 2 which she said would help and then day 4 I bought gas x strips-- but for me it seemed to make it worse... Like it mobilized the gas or something so I haven't tried it since then.

I had surgery on Monday and starting last night was when it finally lessened for me. Every time I tried to sip or have a bit of anything, still on full liquids I thought I was going to die I was so miserable. I still have it but no where near as frequent or severe. Hope this helps!

Ok this is reassuring. Every time I take a sip, it is excruciating. I though something went wrong with the surgery.

Hardly anything is coming out of the drain. I've had trouble wearing. The scanned and said it is very full but Uruk tonight to empty it!!!

Did anyone else have immediate regret? I did when I woke up but now I'm feeling better about it.

I didn't have a drain so I can't help you out there. The sip thing is def the same as mine! I even emailed the Dr office and asked if I was doing something wrong because it was hurting so bad! I've had a few rough nights where I cried because it hurt, not because of regret. And now I have some type of cold virus on top of recovery, so yay me lol. Just trying to drink my fluids now that my throat hurts worse than after I woke up from surgery. Good luck with your drain :)

Oh and anything hot was really difficult to get down, so maybe just try cold stuff for a few more days

If the gas is still bothering you, ask for a heating pad.

So normal guys. The first thought I had when I woke up.. and actually what I was yelling and moaning about in the recovery room was " IS THIS NORMAL ... CAN I HAVE A HEATING PAD" This was by far the most horrendous pain I have ever experienced and it was all related to gas. I had that level of pain for about a week, then slowly it faded over the course of the next two weeks by no matter how much I walked or moved, my gas bubble just lingered in my chest and shoulder area.

Have someone do little karate like chops on your shoulder area and upper back to break up gas bubbles.

As for the fluids, I would go with room temperature only. Hot and cold both have been known to irritate the new tummy. Don't focus so much on sipping as you do wetting the inside of your mouth and just swallowing the Water mixed in with your saliva.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
