How are all the Sept. people doing?

Recommended Posts

I had my Surgery Sept. 17th Wed. and I had a complication of severe high blood pressure. I was in the ICU for a night and then transferred to the floor for another night. Doing better now but I had a lot of pain just after surgery. (Not sure morphine agrees with me.) Home now for a couple of days. trying to get my Water intake and starting on Protein shakes.... both are hard. I too have sleep apnea but had no issues in that area.

The most unexpected thing after surgery (besides the high BP): was the upper GI before they start you on Clear liquids. I thought it would be a scope... it was not. I stood infront of an xray and drank the worst tasting liquid I have ever had....

Best piece of advice: Walk walk walk... I think that helped me and still helps me as much as anything. I did this from day one in the ICU and still get in several walks.. 5-8 times back and forth several times in my house per day... today I plan to tackle the front steps when the kids get home from school. (I don't want to tackle 13 uneven stairs with no handrail when I am home alone.)

Biggest mistake: licking a spoon with hot mustard = diarrhea

Biggest win: already notice weight loss :)

Hi! Glad to hear you are feeling better! I had surgery on Sept 2nd and I'm doing fine. I've had no complications (so thankful). I agree that walking as soon and as much as possible is the greatest gift you can give yourself after surgery. Today is my first day back at work, and I was a little nervous but so far, so good. I'm down 20 pounds since surgery and feeling great!

Best of luck to everyone!

Carol

Good luck to everyone! I had my surgery on 9/11. Down 16 lbs at my 1 week appointment to have staples removed. That was on the 19th. I had a little trouble at first getting my carbs and liquids in, but the further out I am, the better it gets. Eating eggs, cottage cheese, pimento cheese, and chicken salad now. But the best is WENDY's CHILI. Lots of Protein and taste great. Started Carbmaster yogurt today for extra Protein. Also eat 1 tbs of Peanut Butter, slowly, once a day.

Hi! I'm 6 days post op and feeling terrific. I was able to walk 1/2 mile, flat street, shop a little, and visit with my sister. I haven't lost any weight yet but I think I gained a lot from the IV fluids. I have read this from other folks on the site.

Only a few days left for this month. I hope all you September Surgery patients do as well as I!

Hey Hardware Jedi,

How are you doing? You are one day post up earlier than I. How is your pain level? I hope you are feeling great!

I'm doing pretty well. Not much pain to speak of. I have some discomfort due to still having my drain, but it's not bad. Every day I'm feeling better.

How are you doing, Jolisue?

I'm good. Getting some walking in twice a day, and able to do lite housework. The liquid diet is hard. I'm totally sick of the Protein Drinks. I found the juice called , "Isopure." These have same calories, 160, but 40 grams of Protein. I dilute it half Water have juice, and it's delicious. No more Premier Protein. I'm eating Soups then for meals.

I'm doing a bit of walking too. I find myself wanting the solid food the rest of my family is having. My cream Soups only go so far. I'll check out the Isopure. Where did you find them?

At a GNC. They are also carried at Vitamin Shoppe. I am really craving solid good. In fact I succumbed to a craving for peanuts and ate a handful. I experienced what I think was dumping last night. I had chills. I didn't throw up

Or get nauseous, I just felt overall poorly!

Glad you didn't throw up. That would be painful I think.

I think I had a bit of that yesterday. At 3 in the morning I woke up with a terrible headache, but got back to sleep. When I got up at 8 I had a little bit of coco wheats and found the headache was from hunger. The entire day I felt like I was eating everything. That evening I got flushed and my heart started racing with a little nausea. I crashed on the couch for the night.

I am excited to hear from the doctor tomorrow. I think he will move me to soft foods. I think my headache is from low blood sugar it's ironic we're probably not eating enough!

Also, it sounds like you aren't experiencing the limits of the surgery or pouch if you could eat coco wheats, right? I'm not having any problem with drinking or eating. That worries me too. Like wont get the benefits of feeling full? Or maybe we are quick healers? Just another question for the doctor tomorrow.

Cream of wheat/ coco wheats is in my approved liquid diet. I have to thin it really well! I do feel full after I drink it and it takes me a couple hours to do so. I have another week before I see my doc. Good luck tomorrow! Let me know how it goes!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
