Arm lift / brachioplasty

Recommended Posts

I have a plastic's consult July 10th for my arms. As others have said, this is the first area I want to have worked on! I have not stabilized in my weight loss but wanted to go ahead and get information & find out the total cost so I can go ahead and start saving. Hopefully I can have surgery around Christmas or in the early spring.

When did you ladies begin to drive after surgery ?

One thing I have learned about plastic surgery is the amount of pain after surgery has a lot to do with your surgeon. When I had my arm surgery last year, it hurt like hell for at least the first 2 weeks. My surgeon did not mention arm support sleeves, I learned about those from a surgery support website, so I quickly ordered a pair which really helped a lot. My arms did not turn out as well as I would have hoped, they need a revision. The incision was not place correctly which lead to a 3 inch pulled area on both arms. My new surgeon will be doing the revision for this surgery also. Not worried about any pain with the revision as my new surgeon (Dr. Victor Gutierrez) is very gentle when handling tissue....

I had my consult with surgeon today. He is willing to do my arms now even though I am only 8 months out from the sleeve surgery. I only have about 20 pounds left to lose. It is going to cost 3400.00 to have it done. Any other plastics will have to wait until I maintain for 12 months. I hope to have it done in late August. I will be having surgery on my legs for the varicose veins in Oct or November.

Sherry, that is a excellent price, how great is that. My arms were the first surgery I wanted too, even worse than the batwings were the fact that when the arms were down to my side the wrinkles were so bad it made me look like I was 100 years old...I also have been having my veins worked on since Feb. My original surgeon wanted my veins done before I had surgery so I started the process then but it's still not finished, I did stop for 3 months due to surgery so I need to call and get back at it asap...ugh

I know what you mean about the arms looking like they are 100 years old. I was truly surprised by the price. I was expecting several thousand higher. The surgeon comes highly recommended and by bariatric doctor also suggested him.

Hi, can you give me an update. how are you feeling? I'm scheduled for arm lift next Wednesday and suddenly scared out of my mind. I'm staying with my dad. Couple of questions.

1. Did you have drains? Were you able to care for them yourself?

2. Were you able to go to the bathroom by yourself?

My dad said he can have a CNA he knows come in and help me get dressed and cleaned up in the mornings but I'm worried about going to the bathroom that first day or so. Should I have one of my friends stay with me instead? Any advice you can give me would be great.

thanks

Everyone heals differently, but when I had my arms done I also had my breast and lower face/neck done at the same time. I am not going to lie, recovery for me was hard, 3 times the pain, but as I remember the arms hurt the worse. The first week was tough, I did have drains, but they were only in for a few days, not sure why they were taken out so early, since I noticed the area still leaked on the sheets while I slept. I was able to get around pretty well after the first week, I just did not use my arms much at all. I started wearing the support sleeves and they helped so much, they gave me secure feeling, so I didn't feel like I was going to rip anything open. I wore the sleeves for about 3 months. I believe they helped keep my scars nice and thin too...

I would definitely suggest having someone help you! I needed help and was told not to use my arms for anything the first week! All surgeons are all different though so go by what your surgeon says. After that I was only allowed to dress myself use the bathroom and eat the second and third week. I could drive the fourth and lift nothing heavier than a gallon of milk! I think my surgeon is a bit per cautious! I am going to be 7 weeks post op tomorrow and am just now not having pain in my arms! Although when I reach it still hurts! I definitely needed the help big time in the beginning! I had drains in for a week and I definitely could not wipe myself after going to the bathroom, thank goodness I had my husband and sister there to help me! It will hurt, but if you stay on top of your pain meds it is tolerable and after a few days you should be fine! Also, don't freak out if at first your compression garments don't fit! My arms were soo swollen that I couldn't we're them for a good two weeks!

I had lots done at once but the arms were not bad. I had lots of help first 3 days in the clinic due to lower body lift. Arms did not hurt and we're my first drains out. I think you can go potty ok by yourself with just arms done. Dr Sauceda puts you in firm compression garments so you are pretty well held together but it takes help to put that baby on

I had my caretaker put a few dishes and glasses out on the counter for me so I could get a drink of Water and avoid reaching overhead in the early post op weeks.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
