Well, for me it has been about technique and choices. If I can't take 30 min to eat a meal, then I should just drink a Protein drink. To eat properly, I have weigh out 2 oz food, put on an appetizer plate and divide into 6 portions. Then set a timer for 30 min and eat one portion every 5 min. This morning, I took over an hour to eat my Protein Bar, because I got up and did other things, paying bills, etc. then you have to wait one hour before drinking anything. However, I sipped 2 oz coffee over an hour w/my bar. And choices...eating frozen yogurt is too hard for me to control right now, and there is no real nutritional value, no Protein to speak of.

This is what I want my day to look like:

B: one egg omelet w/minced bell pepper, onion, 1/2 slice ff cheese single & vits or a medifast protein crunch bar

S: 32 oz of Water mixed w/one scoop of fuzzy naval Protein Drink and later 1 oz of turkey Jerky

L: 2 oz tuna salad mixed with one tsp light mayo, minced onion, on romain lettuce leaf

or something else similar

S: 32 oz of Water mixed w/special K protein water powder or another fuzzy naval

and later maybe 1/2 c low fat cottage cheese mixed w/minced celery

D: 2 oz pork tenderloin stir fried w/zucchini, onion and some seasoning

S: Medifast parmesan cheese puffs made w/soy protein

about 600-700 calories, 80 gms protein, 64 oz water and then I walk on the treadmill or around the neighborhood 30-45 minutes and use light weights to tone while watching tv.

But, it is key to take 30 min to eat your meals, or you will hurt yourself. And you have to wait one hour after meals to drink fluids, and after drinking you have to wait 15-30 min before eating.

I don't know if it's about will power, but choice and planning and following your surgeon's orders. I still have problems controlling how fast I eat, and how much I eat, and believe me, it's painful if I break the rules.

I just got home from having surgery with Dr. Cirangle in SF on 090909. Am doing well, having a little discomfort and can't believe how little liquid makes me full. It is nuts. The first day of recovery in the hospital was rough - no major pain, just an uncomfort that made it hard to relax. I am sitting at home now, just downded 30 grams of Protein this morning and heading to the stash to try and get in another 15. I can't wait to see some results.

Hi all my surgery is nearly TWO days away...Tuesday the 15th. I can't tell you how many times my feet get cold! My intention is to come back here and tell you all how it went and how I am progressing in detail very soon after my surgery. Can I ask for a prayer? I thank God we're in this together. I'll be praying for each and every one of you too. My doctor's name is Baiju C. Gohil in North Shore LIJ, Syosett, NY.

Yes, Lan2K, you are in my prayers. It will be fine, a piece of cake. That's the beauty of the sleeve. It's so simple.

Lan2k

You are on my prayer list. My surgery is only a week away- we will go through this together. I understand the cold feet but think of all the positives and how your life will be changed so much for the better!

It's getting nearer to Tuesday:scared0:. I sincerely appreciate your support and prayers. I want to send love out to all of you and pray for all of us to have a complication free surgery with a "speedy and uneventful recovery". Thank you God for being with us.

Yummy I'm thrilled to see that there is diversity in food choices. I hope I can handle the post op time liquid only period.

Well you had it I guess. We are all waiting to hear how you did. I am scheduled for Sept. 28 if I don't chicken out!. Living in cajun country with all the food they cook here may be rough. But we have to do it for our health so we can enjoy our kids and grandkids. Hope it went well for you.

Vonnie -

I had mine on 09/09 and i hate to say it was a breeze, but I have had more discomfort and pain with dental work. Seriously. SO GLAD I did this. I ate today for the first time (real food -mushies) and I can currently eat about 1/20th of what I used to. AMAZING. Can't wait to hear from LAN2K!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
